Has anyone flashed 4.0.4 yet? If so do you notice any instabilities or bugs? What are your experiences?

Yep, flashed it a few hours ago. Haven't noticed any bugs yet, but it is definitely a little snappier. The Android OS "battery drain" bug (in quotes because Googlers have said it's only a reporting bug) is fixed. My battery life right now is phenomenal. Sitting mostly idle for about two and a half hours, only down to 94% (roughly 40 hours of estimated life.) There are also minor UI changes, like in the camera (settings icon is ICS-style rather than the dial design, there's an icon in the corner showing the state of the flash), and the power options menu (looks like it does in 4.0.3 - little toggles on the bottom for silent - vibrate - sound).

I was unlocked and rooted previously, yes. I was actually planning on taking tonight and just reverting back to 4.0.2, but decided to take the jump and go to 4.0.4 as well.

If you haven't unlocked your bootloader, do so.

Then download the 4.0.4 update and put it in the /sdcard folder. Reboot into the bootloader and boot into ClockworkMod recovery (download the recovery img file, rename it cwm.img for convenience and in the bootloader call fastboot boot cwm.img). I did a backup first, you can choose whether you want to or not. Then install from sd card, choose zip from sd card, and install the update file.

I believe that process can get convoluted if you have different radio firmware installed, or if you're trying to install over a 4.0.3 ROM. In fact, to be safe I'd say you should revert to stock 4.0.2 (leaving the bootloader unlocked) and install from there.

It breaks root. If you did it through team black hat then you are still rooted but just flashing it breaks root. I'm now not rooted but its OK . I will just flash the files then reroot and I'm back. But it is smoother.

Because I KNOW someone is going to ask eventually... what about the signal strength indicator? Does it look like that was altered (or the signal actually got stronger)?

I personally have generally kept my Nexus on WiFi most of the time (my university's WiFi network gets pretty good signal all over campus), but I can say right now I'm getting (or at least seeing) 4 bars of 4G, inside my apartment inside a brick building. Before this update I usually got 3 I believe.
About phone -> Status shows -85dBm, which I think is a little higher than I used to see. It's definitely no worse than 4.0.2, I can say.

I'm running P3Droid's Tranquil Ice 7.0i which is 4.0.4.
Running really smooth and great so far. Only been running it for an hour so far so I can't comment on battery life just yet.

OH! 1 more question.

Typing lag in landscape mode, is that fixed?

EDIT: Another very useful thread from another forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481044&page=1

The last post (well as of this reply at least) concerns me:
"Issue:

If you let the phone sleep for a long time (10 min), when you wake it up, it has no data connection. It starts connecting after it is awake. "

can u confirm or deny this as well?

Just tried out typing out text messages and emails in landscape (I typically do so in portrait mode), didn't notice any lag. Nothing like what I remember seeing last time I had done it.

Edit: Didn't see your second question when I did quick reply. I haven't noticed anything of the sort. I have a data connection every time I look at the phone (and I might spend an hour or two between those occasions)

EDIT: lol round robbin... okay great, thank you. It looks like this update is shaping up to be the GNex game changer for most people :)

Tried doing the install from sdcard but get an installation error. I'm running 4.0.2 unlocked and rooted. I did boot into cwm but selecting the update file bombs.

Any tips?

Is the file you downloaded named 659e0a8f24b4.signed-mysid-IMM30B-from-ICL53F.659e0a8f.zip ? Where did you download it from? Is the file size 29.1MB? (I downloaded it from the original 4.0.4 thread in the rooting subforum here.)

Can anyone confirm if I can put the update on a flash drive and update with a USB host? That's how I did it with my Xoom because I didn't want to unlock the boot loader.

Just redownloaded the file again and still getting the error.

assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == 'toro" ||

That is some of the error.

I saw on XDA a few people having that error.
What version of ClockworkMod are you trying to flash it with? "you need recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-toro.img not 5.5.0.2" seems a popular fix. I used Koush's touch recovery and that worked fine.

looks like 5.5.0.2 is what I downloaded. I'll give 5.5.0.4 a shot and let you know. Thank you for the help!
