Anyone found a good car dock/mount yet?

I use a Slip Grip mount for my MAXX and my son's Droid DNA should also fit the Turbo. They offer it in different configurations. I plug it in if I need power. I have to say it has been the best car mount I have ever had. Here is a link to it.

Not many people like the flex. I have the one touch xl, and I really like it. It's easy to cradle and remove the phone with one hand, and it hold the phone securely.

Looking at the One Touch XL, it looks like the grips could cover the volume buttons? Are the grips low enough that it misses?

On my Droid Maxx they do hit the volume buttons, but they don't press them hard enough to engage them. You can slide the bottom piece up and down to change how high or the phone sits in the cradle, but with the Maxx the lowest and highest settings still has the arm touch the volume buttons. I suspect that the Turbo would be the same, though maybe not; it is a longer phone. Again, that's not an issue with the Maxx, as it doesn't actually press hard enough to engage them.

In my testing of the Flex III, I did at one point position the phone where the vice was over the volume rocker, and the pressure did cause an issue, FWIW.

Have any of you tried the Nokia Wireless Charging Car Holder CR-200? The Verizon site says it is compatible with the DT. Am wondering how well it holds it and how secure it is on the dash? Reviews aren't very good for it, so I would guess few of us would give it a try.

Received my iOttie Flex III today. Initial reaction is...meh.

The suction to my curved, slightly patterned dash is stellar (don't think it is going anywhere anytime soon). However, a few things about it's actual function:

- Holds the phone, but I wouldn't call it a snug fit. Because of the phone's rounded back and the vice-close button sticking out the back of the mount (more on that in a second), the phone is very wobbly in the doc. Do I think the phone will slip out of it? No. However, it is annoying when going to touch the screen and the phone is rocking back and forth with each press.
- It's awkward releasing the phone from the device. Earlier models of the iOttie appear to have compression wings to release the grip (press each wing inward, phone is released into your waiting palm). However, with the Flex III model, you need to manually open the vice arm. And if you don't hold the phone with your other hand, it will fall to the floor.
- Finally, the 'one-handed mount' mechanism comes down to a button in the middle of the back of the dock. Lock open the vice, push phone in with a bit of force, vice arm closes in to secure phone once button is compressed. This is all well-and-good, but since our phone is a bit large, the button doesn't fully depress when the phone is in the craddle (when the arms are completely closed or close to it, the button is flush with the back of the mount). Thus, you have a spring loaded button putting pressure on one spot on the back of the phone (which also leads to bullet point 1 issues). If you have the 32gb/Kevlar model, that might not be a concern. But I have the Ballistic Nylon model, and I can see the pressure of the button eventually leaving a permanent indentation in the BN backing.

I'll keep it and use it for a few days or so, and report back. But, initially, it appears that the search continues.

Well, the Flex III is getting returned. Just not happy with it for all the above reasons. It's a nice mount, but just doesn't work for the Turbo. I did email iOttie to ask about the XL and if the arms will be over the volume rocker of the Turbo. If they say they've tested it and it doesn't hit the volume rocker, I think I'll trade in the Flex III for the XL. I'll report back what they say.

Well, another iOttie, another miss. I emailed iOttie to ask them which mount would work best with the Turbo, mentioning specifically the XL and my reservations about it possibly resting over the volume or power button. This is their reply:

"Thank you for contacting us. I would suggest looking into the HLCRIO115- Easy View 2 as it is a little deeper than the Easy Flex 3. The HLCRIO101- One Touch XL will work for your device and it has the bottom bracket that should be able to hold it back from moving back and forth.

Please let me know your thoughts."

With that, I returned the flex III and ordered the XL. In iOttie's defense, she did mention the Easy View 2 first, but that device seemed to have limited movement, which I didn't like.

Received the XL today, and my fear was realized. The only way to put my phone in the device without the arms clamping down on the volume or power buttons is to NOT rest it on the bottom bracket, which then causes the device to be a bit top heavy and wobbly. With that, manipulating the top of the screen at all also causes the phone to tilt in the device. So, this one is going back too. Slightly annoyed this time, since iOttie confirmed it would work without issue.

I went with an Arkon Mega Grip mount http://www.arkon.com/megagrip/ after reading some good post about them. The dip on the sides miss the buttons and are big enough that the volume can still be used. I've had it less than a week but I'm happy with it so far. Seems a solid mount.

I chopped up my old Droid X dock, hooked up the Verizon Quick Charge 2.0 car charger, and rerouted the cabling to the side.

The end result?

Very happy with it so far :)

couldn't agree more. I've had more than 10 different phones over the past 4 years and I get a new proclip mount for each phone. Nice part is that the car mounting part stays the same, so I don't have to replace that. Unlike my phones, I've had the same car for 10 years.

Hey guys, just an FYI, Air Dock has started another Indiegogo campaign for their newer Air Dock 2.0. The Air Dock

Plastic mount? Looks a bit flimsy. Not to mention the plastic will probably mar up the phone a bit. And screwing it right into my dash? No thanks.

The Airdock wouldn't work with the BN backing (and I am not using a magnetic sticker, which also may not work and won't be as secure regardless).

The Ram looks pretty good, but the X Grip would be an issue in that the volume and power buttons are right next to each other, leaving no room for the 4th arm without pushing a button.

I've hated suction cup mounts for years. I have a lot of them in the garage - and all the suction cups eventually dry out and stop working (even if you wet them first).

I've been using a Mountek CD Slot Mount for years in both my cars and love it. My wife puts her Magellan into it when she's driving (for some reason she doesn't like using her phone to navigate).

not here it doesn't. Its perfect. I'm happy

I have used the custom mounts from Proclip for my last three Droids. They make the mounts in two parts, the first is specific to the vehicle, and the second part is specific to the phone. The quality is excellent and it looks good. The site is proclipusa dot com. They are slightly pricey, but well worth it in my opinion.

I use magnetic mounts in both my cars and I love em. I also use the app car home ultra which automatically starts when my car's bluetooth is detected. Works for me...
