Anyone here not using a screen protector for their Note 8?

I haven't used screen protectors for 3 years on my last 3 phones : Note 4, S8+and now my Note 8. I use a thin minimalist case (Spigen) and have never gotten scratches on the screen. I work outdoors and carry the phone in my rear pocket.

Need to feel the glass. No screen protector here. Life is too short.

For those that do not use a screen protector, how long do you typically have/use a phone? I've never had/used a phone for less than 2 years. My N8 will be no different. I'm not convinced that going that long without a SP would be the best thing to do. However, if you only have a phone for a few months or even just a year, going without a SP doesn't seem like a bad idea.

I don't think it matters how long you keep the phone but rather how much abuse you put your phone through.

I normally upgrade yearly, but even after 12 months of use, screen is almost as new as it can be. Yes there will be very minor scratches but the type that you have to turn the phone off and put it under light to see.

Some people can cause more damage to their screen in a month vs what typically happen to mine in a year.

Totally agree and should have prefaced my post by saying that I take extremely good care of my phones. However, the longer you have/use the phone, the more potential damage to the screen will occur. I've never broken a screen on any phone or broken a phone at all in the almost 20 years of having a cell phone, including having a cell phone for work and never breaking one of those, either. In my case, maybe going without a SP would be OK but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Never say never. That was me until I shattered my Note 8 screen 2 weeks after getting it on September 14h.

Read all about it on the link below. Screen protector would have not helped and I don't have one on now either. It was the worst possible accident and life goes on. Good luck with what ever you decide to do.

I usually get a new phone every year, but I had my Note 5 for 2 with no case or screen protector and it still looks brand new. I take good care of my phones though and I never put anything in my pocket with it

What's a screen protector?

Haven't used one since the days of Compaq iPAQ...

I don't use screen protectors. back in the early days of the iPhone I fiddled around so them but didn't ever find one that felt as good as the naked glass so I have up on the idea and have never tried once since. My s7 edge had a naked screen for 18 months and was fine. I am careful with what else is in my pocket or bag etc but other than that I just use the phone normally and don't really worry. I do use a case just for the extra grip and hope of a slight amount of drop protection just in case

didn't use any on my Note 4 for nearly 2 years but had the Samsung S-View cover, when I ditched that I put on a screen protector, it still looks like new out of the box

I keep my phones for about 2 years. I'm convinced that the glass is treated well enough at this point that the $50 screen protectors at Best Buy are completely unnecessary.
I am hard on my phones and never have had scratches. I also want to enjoy the experience with it as much as possible. I don't have the balls to go without a case, because I do drop my phone about once a week. But if I was confident to go without case, I would do that too.
I get it that we want to care for our prized possessions, but the glass on high end smartphones are incredibly resilient.

I had a screen protector that Sprint sells and a cheap one from Amazon, both were horrible. Popping off when I would pick the phone up without a case and then not staying on with a case. I don't have one on now and I love it, I do carry a microfiber cloth to clean the screen from smudges.

I went two years with my N4 unprotected, and realized the 4 was a beast of a design. I generally take good care of my phones, and the 4 ended up with only a few blemishes. Really did come to appreciate how solid of a design it was.

As for the 8, I've already chipped the glass on the back of the phone. Will post something soon, as I'm thinking of ways I can repair the area.

I understand what you are saying, OP. My phone has a curved screen too; which definitely affects the placement of the screen protector.

I would recommend a plastic one, as they are less expensive and wouldn't set you as far back; but after going from plastic to tempered glass, myself, I definitely understand that you'd wanna stick with glass if anything.

How cautious are you with your phones? There is no rule that you absolutely need a screen protector for your phone, especially if you're cautious with it! My mom has had her Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge for over two years and has never used a screen protector; and it has no visible scratches. It's all about what you think you need and can live with. :)

I had the Whitestone Dome on my phone, but it lifted at the bottom when I put on my Alcantera case. I removed it and put on one of the liquid nano tech wipe on protectors to hopefully keep the micro scratches at bay. So far, so good. It's been about 3 weeks.

only thing is if you scratch or break your screen protector it's easy and inexpensive to restore to pristine condition. not so with naked glass. usually keep my phone 1 to 2 years I like them always looking new.
