In the monthly view (note 3). Am I one of the 10 people that did that? I thought it was great. (And think it's gone.. Was part of the Samsung calendar widget )

Right, but no not handwriting recognition to create an entry but rather the ability to write on top of the month view (circle a date, added a note etc). Basically to draw on top of the month view and turn the drawing layer on and off.

Oh ya. Seems they took away few neat features. This is my first note and some of the features that are gone sound really useful.

I miss it... used it all the time on my N3. I miss being able to write notes on the 'back' of photos too. : (

Yes. I always marked my calendar on my 4. It is most definitely missed.

On the 3 one of my fave features was writing on the back of pics. It was great for my NYC vacations. Talk about impressive! It vanished from the 4.

Seems like each Note has some features added, some taken away. I'd rather have all the features and just disable or ignore what I don't use.

At&t Note5

Omg! I just got the Samsung Note 5, and I hate it! Can't scroll the calendar vertically! Can't write on the calendar anymore with SPen! No more background colors or emoji for my calendar either! No more writing in bright colors! The phone edges are so sensitive you can't hold it without opening theme and widget mode constantly! I used that calendar all the time... Honestly I had more flexibility and options for my SPen in the Note 3 than I do in the Note 5....

I just did it on the note 5, grab the s-pen, long press the days you want and up pops screen to write on, I think that's what you mean??

Unfortunately, that is not what they are talking about. What you mention adds a note or event to your calendar. We used to be able to write over the calendar, this did not add an actual event into the calendar.
