Anyone NOT excited about the kickstand?

Hi all, first time poster. I am coming from the Precentral forums, so needless to say I will be ditching my launch day Pre to get this bad boy. However I just find myself turned off by the kickstand. This would seem to be yet another part that will end up breaking/not holding itself properly in place after a few months use. I wish they would've given us the option of not using it. Or maybe have an aftermarket back that would conceal the kickstand hole? Or am I in the minority here?

The kickstand is a nice added feature, something I can see myself using often for watching movies while inflight, or using it with an external keyboard (if one is available).

If you're afraid of this feature breaking off, simply don't use it ... problem solved ;-)

I'm sure you can find a case that covers it up.
I understand you're thoughts of "Another thing that can break" and thats why I won't buy another slider phone (yes, I had a pre, shocker, right?)
I don't think the kickstand will be an issue. I'm on my first HTC device, and I gotta say, its built like a rock. Some have had problems with dust under the screen, but mine just seems to have been solidly put together, and am impressed. Its also not their first phone with a kickstand. I would check out the WinMo forums to see if they have had issues with it over there.

I'd be a little more excited about the kickstand if it worked in portrait mode.

I don't watch much video, and almost none on my phone. But I read on my phone constantly, and prefer portrait mode to get more text on screen.

Oh, and all you young punks - keep off my lawn. Jeez.

lol, well, there will be docks... you could use those to read. I wouldn't pay for the video one if you're not going to use it, but there should be ones for data/sync/charging from seidio that could help. You also might be able to get it to work in portrait. A picture frame works both ways with just 1 stand (depends on how sturdy it is).

I am just curious about the types of cases that will be made to accommodate the space allocated for the kickstand. I wonder whether they'll be able to make it easy to access with a case, etc. Overall though I believe the kickstand is a nice feature and I can see myself using it.

I just know with any movable hardware that it has the tendency to loosen up over time. I have faith in HTC's hardware engineering, but just worried it may want to "come out" of its slot over time due to it loosening up. Either way, I'm still getting it!

I just want my touchstone to work flawlessly with my EVO ><

I like the idea of a kickstand actually. As long as it doesn't randomly flop open I am ok with it. I actually see myself in the future using video chat with friends and family, and it will be really nice to just drop your phone on a table and talk away.

Video will be nice on long plane trips, but otherwise, not a big video person either.

I'd be willing to bet that HTC or a third party will have replacement backs available for users with worn kickstands. It's a much easier problem to address than with flip phone hinges or slide-out keyboards.

I'm excited about the kickstand. I spent a long time propping up my phones to watch video on them, and finally got to stop when I got my Touch Pro 2. While I will certainly miss the hardware keyboard, the kickstand is a nice touch.

The kickstand is held in very securely, so don't worry about it breaking off. I had that concern as well. It is held by clips and some sort of magnet I think.

The videos make it look like the kickstand is part of the physical body of the phone, not the back. I hope you're right, though.

I was initially not excited about the kickstand but if it's truely flush and doesn't affect the feel too much I'll live with it. I mean, I'm buying the phone no matter what. I can see the kickstand being a cool feature on an airplane especialy.
