Anyone not have ANY problems with the update?

Who updated and has or does not have issues?

None, other that having to upgrade Adobe Flash to the released version. I do not consider this to be a real problem because it was solved within two minutes with a quick Google search.

This is not a problem, just the way it works. You shouldn't be seeing any negative side effects from it. Dump the task killer and stop obsessing over it. It's not a blackberry.
Yea, I just dumped it today, I was becoming completely nuts over it.

Only bug I had (ironically that I found using ATK), was Andrid was not letting the phone sleep, so adios to that one too.

Music was also starting up when disconnecting from bluetooth (Microsoft SYNC in a Ford), I'll have to check if was stemming from ATK though by jumping in and out of the car a bunch of times tomorrow during the day. I think most 'problems' are stemming from 3rd party apps. I uninstalled/reinstalled my 'big' widgets, like news apps, sirius, weather channel, and pandora and cleared the cache of most of the others. I'm going to see how this works out 'hands-off' and just let 'er eat.

I'm clicking 'no issues', as not one 'problem' has been from the update itself.

Ok....

Issues I have .... I was stock and applied the update.zip.

The update.zip method went smooth on the first attempt.

1.) I have a freezing issue. The phone will just freeze. normally this occurs when I am moving from screen to screen. The only fix so far is to do a battery pull.

2.) screen is set to auto bright. It will work fine and them dim properly at 30 seconds.... but when I touch the screen to go back to full bright, it stays at the dim level.

3.) After updating, all my notifications and rings tones had been changed around for some reason... No biggie, I just changed them back...

Other than these, so far I have been good... and I am not running ATK. I uninstalled.

Lego!

Annoying quirks galore after doing OTA update on completely stock 2.1 D Inc. acquired on launch day...

1. Mobile network turning on (no cell service)
2. If put in Airplane mode will only come out of it if phone is rebooted.
3. A general slowdown of the phone doing normal tasks.- not as snappy and smooth as before-ie keyboard popping up or closing, apps opening or closing.
4. Music actually skipping during playback. It only happened a few times but since it never happened with 2.1 I noticed.
5. Force closes on Chomp SMS while changing settings, Multitouch keyboard force closes and will not run at all.
6. MORE bloatware than before that cant be turned off
7. On average 25% less available ram as there is a longer list of apps in the running services section of >Settings > Applications.
8. WORSE battery life than 2.1 with Seidio 1750 battery.
9. Only charges when plugged into USB on laptop regardless of settings.
(unable to mount as drives)

For the most part the apps i have tried since upgrading work but..

This is total BS and needs to be fixed.

I am VERY disappointed and if I cant get a decent task killer (as we all know ATK doesn't do crap now) I might have to root but really dont want to.

I’ve had no issues other than a real disappointment in VZW over the crap/bloatware thing. From my testing, it does affect the battery, especially during the overnight charge. The phone comes off the charger with a bigger drain then it did in 2.1.

My real beef is with the inability to easily remove crapware that I do not want and do not use. I can understand locking the system apps, like "Dialer." I can just see some ding-dong removing that and then coming to the forum complaining they can't make calls! But Peep!!! Please, as far as I know Twitter is not an essential systems application, and frankly, the day it is... I'm out of here!

They can keep VZNav, Friendster and all the other BS apps, or let me get rid of them, there is nothing system essential to any of them!

The real thing that has pissed me off is the Media Manager USB install/prompt. That was totally uncalled for; especially since I can’t get rid of it without root!

That’s my only beef.

If you're having assorted minor issues try re-flashing the update file (I've done this before) and this time don't touch the phone no matter how tempting it may be if it seems to have locked up until you are back on your home screen. I'm not saying you were impatient or anything but sometimes people get nervous when it seems to hang and do a battery pull.

Don't obsess so much about available memory this isn't Windows or a Blackberry. The apps you are seeing run in the background are normal and in most cases are not doing anything. Just because it is there doesn't mean it is using resources. You dont need a task killer. The Android OS will automatically kill processes to free up memory as needed.

The API which ATK and other task managers were using to gain the ability to kill processes has been removed in Froyo so you are going to have to live with the processes running in the background until/unless you root. ATK, ATM, and other task managers are completely worthless now so you may as well remove them and free up the memory.

I don't think any Android build has had the ability to completely remove any program built into the ROM so this isn't just a Verizon thing.

Peep may not be a core system app but it is heavily integrated into Sense (Friendstream) and removing it would probably cause unpredictable results, and Sens replaces some system elements, which is why it can't be disabled or removed.

OK so Peep and Friendstreem are linked, but they are still not essential system apps. Remove them both together! ROM chef's remove them all the time in Sense ROMS with no problems. Qazme did it an hour after getting his hands on the RUU.

And I get that if it's in the ROM it can't be removed, but both Peep and Friendstream are HTC Apps that could be loaded on the phone as Apps rather then baked into the ROM. Same with VZNav and Skype as it was in 2.1 when you could download them in the market.

I get all the business reasons behind all this stuff being there. I was in the business in the early days when crapware was just starting to creep into handsets. However, it still cheeses me off that the business side of VZW killed one of the primary features of this release (better battery life) with crapware.

Are you checking the 'bloatware' using an additional app-killer app or the one that's built into the phone? That wouldn't be a 'stock' phone then. I was loosing my mind trying to kill the CITY ID and SKYPE and the like, once I took off ATK, I found they weren't even running(at least sans atk). The factory application manager kills off skype.

But does Joe Consumer know that you would need to remove both of them? What about users who dont want Twitter/Peep but DO want Facebook/Photobucket? I believe you would need to remove all of that, and consumers don't necessarily have the tech know how to understand that such things are interconnected.

Yes! I am not so thrilled with Froyo yet.

My main music app Mixzing (free version) still has the song titles and the album art, but the artist and album info say "unknown". I tried installing it, then reinstalling but same thing. Anybody else having this problem?

so far the only issue i would say is the battery life on stock battery is decreased over 2.1 but as others have mentioned the vzw bloatware is not exactly helping the battery so eh.....bah

I got the OTA update notification, clicked on the "More Info" button and after reading about the update clicked on the "Install" button.

Everything seemed to be going well and then I got the triangle w/ an exclamation point on the screen. It was there for a while until I pressed the power button.

This took me to a menu with options to reboot and a couple other things. The update.zip file never d/l'd and now that the Incredible is back in 2.1, I'm not getting the update notification again.

Should I just use the available ROM to update or wait to see how long it takes Verizon to push the OTA notice again?

Also, under Menu - Settings - About Phone - System Updates it shows that my Incredible is currently up to date. Software Version shows 2.1-update 1.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Mike/KD6FTR

It is because your phone is rooted (w/Unrevoked) and it tried to boot into Stock Recovery, but you most likely have ClockWorkMod recovery and Verizon's update tool didn't know what to do. You'll have to find a 2.2 ROM and load it onto your phone to get Android 2.2 with that ClockWorkMod recovery bootloader sscreen (Green letters, etc.)

@ VZWRocks--I know what you're saying about being impatient but I didn't touch the phone while it was updating..I let it do its thing till I got the lock screen. I would never do a battery pull while its updating like that.

As far as available memory is concerned - I uninstalled ATK and am using the Running services section to kill apps and using Stem Panel Lite to view system resources. The phone's slight slowdown and more battery drain are symptoms of less system resources as is the music skipping. System panel also shows less available memory as well.
2.2 might have its own built in task killer but the amount of available memory is less due to the additional crapware that came with the update.

Hi guys, I updated OTA and since the phone is way worse. The weather app doesnt recognize where I am and doesnt always load on the main home screen.
Handcent text messages is basically useless as it lags tremendously and moves at the speed of erosion.
When the weather app does load on the home screen it just says current location.
Is there a setting that I dont have set? And why is texting so slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww now???

I didn't mean during the upgrade, I meant after during the first boot which seems to take forever...

The first two days I was running the new release I also noticed a substantial decrease in battery life as well, but today it returned to what it was before. Was it f fluke? did it just take time for it to settle in? Who knows I guess I will see what it does tomorrow.

I think you missed my point -- or maybe I just wasn't clear ;-) -- Google removed the ability of third party apps to stop running processes not because they wanted more control, but because the vast majority of the time you don't need to end processes manually as Android is designed to end unneeded running processes to free up memory as needed. That does not mean it stops them when you or I would think it should end them, but rather when it decides it needs more memory it evaluates and kills unused processes to free up the memory it wants. Task Managers only serve to work against Android's own built in systems.

I had terrible battery life with my DInc when I first got it on 2.1, but noticed an increase over time the more I used the phone. I had ATK and ATM on my Moto Droid but only installed ATM on the DInc and barely used it. What I am saying is give it some time for the system to adjust itself. Dont fret about how much memory is free vs used. THe skipping music does concern me but that should disappear over time.
