the longer this goes the more i think this exclusive deal was to keep it off other carriers
i know i know, take off my foil hat.....

I called Costco (as the told me to do Wednesday) I was informed that the Galaxy Nexus has been Back-dated, and still no release date has been announced. Despite the fact that I am beyond furious that they are basically doing this to drive up demand in a well saturated Android phone Market, the fact that they are releasing another tablet today illustrates this is more of a marketing move than anything else. Verizon knows the demand is there, and the longer they make people wait the faster the phone will sell out, and the closer they get to Christmas the more money they can make. They are trying to guarantee this phone sells out as quickly as possible and ends up being back-ordered thus keeping the demand high, just in case the Droid Razr, and Droid 4 do not perform as well. I am not going to buy a different phone, this is the phone that I want, and chances are we will be waiting another 1-2 weeks for Verizon to decide to release it.

Count me in the tin foil hat wearing club. Admit it, we NEVER thought big red would have a 'nexus' phone. Most of us were shocked when we learned that big red would offer a 'nexus' phone, and rightly so it seems. It goes against everything we know about them. This phone is a complete threat to their business model of total control over our wireless experience. I do believe they will release it eventually, but they will be pulled kicking and screaming the entire way by contractual obligations.

Perhaps I need a second layer of tin foil?

VZW might suck... but I'll take that over AT&T or T-Mobile any day of the week, year or decade!!!

Sigh... Like others have reported no dice... Disappointing if they don't hurry up and release this phone I'm going to be stuck with this razr and have to start a new line for the nexus

Just got back from the 0900 appointment I made earlier this week at my local corp store. As expected, no joy. The rep said he thought it would release on the 15th (but he admitted he didn't know anything for sure), and also said he thought (not a fact, just his thoughts) they pushed it back to let the XY tablet release first. This is exactly the reason I believe we lost the release today...get another bloat device out first. And honestly, I think we'll loose the 15th as well, to the Droid 4 releasing on the 22nd. As long as they have another Droid (bloat) device ready to sell before Christmas day, I don't think they're going to let the Nexus out. My personal suspicions are that we will see this phone the week after Christmas.

Seriously? The XYBoard isn't even for sale in stores yet. They've always had the release scheduled for the 12th in stores and the 9th online. In fact I thought it was actually the 8th online so they may have pushed that back one day.

Also, I don't see how tablets and phones correlate at all. I mean if the Nexus was a 7 inch phone, maybe, but it's not.

There are only 2 reasonable causes for the Nexus not yet being released...a bug/problem with the phone itself, or Verizon wants to release as many branded devices as possible before the Nexus because people only have x number of dollars to spend.

You get to believe whichever reason you want...it makes no difference to me.

Just got off the phone with radio shack #1. He informed me that they have them IN STOCK but locked away in the cage awaiting further instruction. Shack #2 in told me that they "have one in their order". And sounded very eager to sell one to me. I'm patiently waiting for #2 to call me back so I can go get this thing (hopefully) before they know they're not supposed to sell it MUWAHAHAHA. I'll keep you posted.

What we decide to believe isn't going to make Verizon release the phone... so there's no reason to get worked up about it. I've stayed pretty patient during this whole storm, but I honestly think Verizon initially wanted to get their main phones out for the holidays before releasing this vanilla device, then when it came up to the plate it still had problems they weren't comfortable with. TO ME; Verizon could and should handle releases differently, giving the customer the choice. The droid series and htc devices would be more appealing to the normal customer, but the fact that Verizon has a phone in it's stables that goes against what they stand for is not acceptable to them. The phones are purchased and in store, so they will eventually release but they will drag their feet as long as possible. I HOPE they don't push this thing past the D4 release.

I agree, but at least we know it definitely wasnt pushed back because of LTE issues.
Edit: Actually it could have been because online orders have to be shipped and then activated once you receive it which will be sometime next week when the LTE network will be going strong. Well then why not just do a online sell for GN??

This entire debacle saddens me :(

I can see your point with this, but it just makes NO SENSE that the phone has a software problem. This thing has been out for weeks, as Google employees have had them and a few other people in positions of power. I just cant wrap my head around the fact that actual google employees have these devices that are running buggy and putting up with it. Isnt it kind of their job to make sure the phone runs smooth? So wouldnt they want to use a phone that ran smooth?
Sorry I dont mean to attack you if it seemed that way, its just hard for me to believe that after all this time. Not to mention the fact that only the CDMA version is buggy and the GSM isnt. Their practically the same phone with different radios. I just want some Icecream.....:'(

Yeah, it's kind of like Verizon is the least smelly turd in the toilet bowl.

Pretty much.

I went to AT&T a few years back because I am a phone whore and wanted the ability to take a sim out and use any phone I wanted to use including ones not released in the US...this was back in the days before 3G (Edge was the fastest thing out there). My first problem was I couldn't make a phone call without dropping it. Dealing with their customer service was a total friggin disaster. I finally paid the ETF after a few months and went back to Verizon. Sprint?!?! Forget about it - they are even worse...I would never switch to a different carrier. With all this BS going on about the release and other past releases, they still have excellent customer service, I drop a call maybe once every three months (when I am in a basement or a top floor of a building)....I know they are more expensive, but I believe you get what you pay for...

I have called every authorized retailer and corporate store in reasonable driving distance from me and no luck.
