Anyone passing on the Bionic but sticking with Moto?

Not trying to thread crap, but just curious how long people will think it will be before Moto releases the next big 4G phone.

I like Moto and currently have a Droid X. I know that my next phone is going to have to have at least a 4.3" screen, touchscreen only, and a 4G phone.

Since the Droid X was released, Moto never released anything comparable until the DX2 except it lacked 4G. Now, nearly 14 months after I got my DX, the Bionic is coming out and meets all the main qualifications, except I wish screen was a little bigger, the processor was a little faster etc and I still enjoy my DX.

Now I know that it's a fact of life that something better will always be around the corner, but I'm just curious if anyone else is thinking about passing on the Bionic but just waiting for the next big Moto device.

I wonder how long it's going to be before they come out with the device that improves upon the Bionic?

If it's potentially going to be another 12-14 months, I may just bite the bullet and get it now so I can upgrade that much sooner. The Bionic will definately be an upgrade from the DX but I just wish it had a little more.

Im about 80% sure im getting the droid bionic.Im a fan of moto, great battery life and great radios,so im sticking with moto

What more do you want from the phone that is currently capable of being put in a phone?

The Droid HD will probably come out in time for the holiday season because Moto will want something to compete with the Prime. I personally will not wait months for those when I can get the Bionic in weeks.

I think I'll be getting the Bionic myself, you're talking to the wrong people here. The Droid HD is a good choice, but it'll only have a bigger resolution screen, that's about it. And probably no LTE, but I've been surprised before.
Seriously, what are you missing in the Bionic? The only thing I've thought of is NFC, and maybe a nicer screen, but that would ruin the battery life, which is higher on my list than a slightly nicer screen if I hold it up to my face instead of using it at a safe distance.

My OG Droid has become almost unusable at times due to touch screen ghost issues. As much as I would like to wait for the prime, my upgrade became available last month and I have to get the bionic to keep my sanity. In all likelihood hood though I'll be selling the bionic to buy a prime outright.

I am still waffling. I am leaning toward the bionic, but I am morbidly curious about the HTC Vigor. With the recent SGSII debacle, I don't believe that VZ will do a Nexus Prime, so I think it is a two horse race for me. I don't want to get the Bionic and end up with Buyer's remorse.

As a former OG Droid and Droid X owner, I have to say I love Motorola phones. I rarely have issues with them. Recently, I learned I am able to upgrade even though I thought I wouldn't be able to till March. So it makes the allure of buying the Bionic that much stronger. However, I'm also very curious of upcoming phones this coming holiday season most especially the Droid HD. I figure if I was already going to wait till early next year, why not wait a few more months and see what's coming first.

Luckily, my significant other is planning on buying a Bionic, so at least I'll be able to play with it. ;)

Was waiting to hear on GS2 having LTE... now that appears to be a non-issue with the whole "not coming to VZW" thing, so I'm getting the Bionic.

Some reports on the Droid HD called it a "middle tier" device. Take it FWIW, but Bionic is considered a top of the line device.

Im like you in that I've had my DX since day 1. Im preordering the bionic though soon as I can. I love the X and Moto quality, the bionic is about twice the phone so that to me warrants an upgrade. The vigor does not interest me, everyone talks about how its 1.5 dual but fail to understand its still A8 and not A9 like the bionic. Also it looks like a big iphone 3gs from the front. And it's HTC?

I'm also going to be buying Bionic. We all know that the OMAP4 series is one of the fastest chips currently available, no matter the clockspeed, which is a really shallow way of judging phone speed anyway (I'd say only second to the Exynos </3). Not only is there 4 times the amount of ram in the Bionic compared to the Droid, but it's also DDR2, which is even faster.

I'm a big fan of what Moto's done with their UI, and I hope they will improve upon it even more. And I'm actually a fan of the pentile screen. The colors are perfect to me. As soon as we get to a resolution where the pixelation becomes eradicated I think we will see a lot more people jump on the bandwagon, too. The main thing to consider here is what you're upgrading from. If you're still on an OG Droid then almost anything is a significant upgrade. Comparing the Bionic to something you could get is sometimes not as reasonable as comparing it to what you've currently got.

Of the phones currently leaked, the Droid HD would be the only other phone I'd be interested in, but it's such an ugly phone. At this point, I just can't wait on something that we know nothing about. And what we do know is odd. Incredibly thin, current-gen LTE device? "HD" resolution somewhere between 540 and 720. Non-removable battery... Think I'll just wait for a quad-core after this, just for the hell of it.

Since the GS2 is not coming to VZW, I'm definitely getting the Bionic. I just got LTE where I live, I have 2 upgrades I can use, so I told myself I would get the best phone with LTE available when I got LTE in my area. In my eyes that will be the Bionic.

Since I have a 2nd upgrade in my pocket, I won't miss out on the next big thing, if I choose to jump on it.

So I am NOT passing on the Bionic.

I saw somewhere it is dual channel ddr2. Is that right?

Hmmm when it comes to PCs that means it's just using two different 512MB sticks...sure that the Bionic would just have one. Dual Channel isn't any faster than just one stick, it's just faster when you fill up that one slot with the maximum amount of RAM.

Untrue, if its a dual-channel capable system. DDR memory is 64-bit per dimm. There are usually only 64 channels(wires) going between the RAM and the Memory Controller. With Dual Channel there are actually 128 'wires' running between the RAM and the Memory Controller. Keep in mind, one large 1gb dimm is only 64 'lanes' at once vs 2 x 512mb DIMMS being capable of 128 (in a dual-channel system). In a system that is NOT dual-channel, 2 x 512mb dimms would still be limited to 64 lanes total which gives no performance benefit.

So, Dual-Channel system boards ARE faster, if you have a pair of memory sticks instead of just one larger one.

I agree though, it'll probably just be a single 1gb 'stick' in the Bionic and most likely is not dual-channel.

Lol now I know... But yeah, it'll be just one stick of DDR2 memory most likely, it's probably cheaper to manufacture that way, and also would take less space.

Texas Instruments OMAP - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 4th generation OMAPs, OMAP4430, 4440 and 4470 all use dual-core ARM Cortex-A9s. The 4470 additionally contains two ARM Cortex-M3s running at 266 MHz to offload the A9s in less computionally intensive tasks to increase power efficiency.[5][6][7] 4430 and 4440 use a PowerVR SGX540 integrated 3D graphics accelerator which runs at a clock frequency of 304 and 384 MHz respectively compared to previous incarnations of SGX540 typically at 200 MHz making them theoretically much faster.[8] 4470 has a PowerVR SGX544 GPU that supports DirectX 9 which enables it for use in Windows 8 as well as a dedicated 2D graphics core for increased power efficiency. All OMAP 4 comes with an IVA3 multimedia hardware accelerator with a programmable DSP that enables 1080p Full HD and multi-standard video encode/decode.[9][10][11][12][13] OMAP 4 uses ARM-Cortex A9s with ARMs SIMD engine (Media Processing Engine, aka NEON) which may have a significant performance advantage in some cases over Nvidia Tegra 2s Cortex-A9s with non-vector floating point units.[14] It also uses a dual-channel LPDDR2 memory controller compared to Nvidia Tegra 2s single-channel memory controller.

i am now more hyped for this device... might not be the fastest clock speed but definitely better than a tegra 2
