Anyone paying full retail?

where to buy and how much

Had my Tour for 2 months, but I've been to psyched out by this device.
According to this post, the Droid will be retailing for 560. Just curious as to who else is making this move aside from myself!

I'm also planning to pay the full retail, BUT can't figure out where to buy. BTW, I live in Canada

don't have the benefit of an upgrade or in the middle of your contract?
These are the 3 ways I see it:

a.) $569.99: buying the droid full price
b.) $439.75: adding a line at 9.99 a month for 24 months, paying 2yr contract price
c.) $374.99: canceling the plan, starting new contract, paying new 2yr contract price

Why wouldn't anybody be going for option C? I don't understand why pricing would be set in a way that encourages paying to cancel your contract prematurely. it doesn't make sense to me.

Course, I guess verizon figured this out too, because I'm reading today that starting 11.15, verizon will be charging $350 instead of $175 for ETF's....

so for those of you looking for the cheapest way to get the droid before 11.15 and don't have a family plan, go with option c!

does anybody have experience doing that? when I called verizon's retentions department, I pointed this out, to which the rep, well.....I can't really comment since verizon never told us what full retail was. wtf? I learned full retail from verizon's twitter!

until the ETF is raised, option C is probably the best one money wise, because you would also have the phone that you were using that you can sell to recoup some of the costs.

but yes, this is why the raised the ETF fees, the BOGO offers were being taken advantage of too frequently.

i'm really surprised that people are crying and moaning about this. they give you 30 days to try out the network penalty free, after that if you are satisfied with your service and choose to keep it, you are obligated to honor your end of the contract.

do people just not believe in doing what they promise to do anymore? if verizon changes the terms of your contract, you are also allowed to get out of it with no ETF, if they don't let you, you have grounds to fight it, as it's a breach of contract.

can someone enlighten me as to how this is unfair?

just curious. :)

it's definitely a fact of life when it comes to mobile phone unit rates...the hard reality to accept is having a value for these devices that range over $200...contract holders and long time customers feel like they're being punished by being already established and unable to take advantage of newer offers, while the reality is that these gadgets are tiny super machines that just frankly cost a lot to develop.

I'm switching over from sprint without a contract break, so it'll be an easy switch for me, but my bf has to go with option c because he's in the middle of a contract, tho he's been with big red for 10 years.

just wish there was some sort of added perk for him, but that's just cos I'm a lady always looking for a deal. :p

well, they do have the NE2, which seems to be much more than any other provider gives you, a $100 credit to getting a new device when your contract up seems like a pretty decent thank you.

it also doesn't hurt to have friends who can help with upgrade timing ;)

I will temporarily upgrade to a Family share plan online then have the DROID billed to my account at the 2 year price $199(online only). I will pay it off in a month or so then cancel the extra line and pay the ETF. This way i don't pay it all at once, don't care if it costs me more than full retail in the end.

so long as you get the contract signed before they raise the ETF, it makes sense, if you get it after the ETF is raised to 350, it might make more sense to put a dumbphone on the second line and shell out the $10 a mo for 2 yrs (200 phone + 240 line charge = 440) vs (200 phone + 350ETF = 550)

I got hosed...lol. I can't use my early upgrade due to coming from the Alltel merger so I'm going to end up having to buy on CL or pay full retail (probably not going to happen @ full retail).

So off to CL I go tomorrow!

I would cancel/new apply but my Alltel plan for the next 18 months is better than any Verizon plan (whole thing is 140 for 2 full data enabled phones and 11 circle numbers). So I'm going to be saving that til they try to force change me.

update:

we went in, and while his contract renewal wasn't up til jan 2011 and his ne2 was used jan 2009, the rep gave us the 1yr contract rate. don't know if we just caught a guy in a a good mood or if he was just tired from being at work since 630, but this was something they just offered us.

if you guys are close to a year into your contract, try this! only $70 more for a 1yr contract. yay!
