Anyone repaired device outside LG/Google?

As the title says, has anyone had their N4 serviced outside of LG or Google?

I'm not the original owner of mine, and I need the display replaced, so I have no warranty, and I don't believe the warranty covers a cracked display, either.

I'm debating replacing the display myself, unless there's a cheaper option than sending the phone to LG.

Thanks for any input!

Is there where I blame Google and LG for making a faulty device with too much glass? Obviously me dropping the device, without a case, has nothing to do with my current predicament. /sarcasm

I would look for a phone that has a front screen made out of metal, and you can probably drop it without it breaking.

Lg does it for 160-180 ish I think, the part with out bezel i think is 100, with bezel about 120ish, so its not too much of a savings. I would probably do it myself with bezel as i could imagine putting it on the bezel would be a work and a half.

Sorry to hear that your Nexus 4 has a cracked display. Have you seen these repair videos?

Here's more information from iFixit:Nexus 4 Teardown

I couldn't find the replacement part on LG USA's website. Maybe you can try checking the various eBay listings or visit a third-party site directly, like this one.

From what I understand, it's easier to replace the screen if your replacement part already has the bezel attached. You can probably do it yourself in 30 minutes if you have the right tools.

Good luck!

Turned out to be cheaper.
I got a quote from the repairer here for my girlfriends mobile front n back replacement 187 +10 for shipping. Usually separately its 100 + 165. To buy the parts is 70 +130 + shipping so I was quiet happy. Let's hope it doesn't get further damage in transit there.

So, did you fix the display on your Nexus 4? How was the experience?

I rocked a Galaxy S2 for a few weeks waiting to see what the Moto X was going to be, and by then the N4's price was cut to $250 so I ended up just buying a new one.
