Anyone see a working S7 demo model in store yet?

I'm still skeptical about the lag and memory management issue. I remember testing the S6 in store and it didnt lag and keep apps in memory fine but once I got it and used it for a few weeks it was a different story.

Was on my way to a business lunch and have a few minutes to kill. Am at the VZ store I usually do business with and they have demos both S7 and S7 Edge.

Beautiful phones! They're a lot like the Note 5 I have. Fast, brilliant displays, fairly slim, easy to handle.

The S7 is about the size of an S6 and the Edge is like a Note 5.

I'm not used to the Edge displays so the display looks a little different when running programs. I'm sure I can get used to it.

The S7 is slim and very easy to handle. Nice design!

I'm not moving from the Note 5 I have as I've grown accustomed to the SPen.

However, coming from the S4 that I previously had, if I had to buy a phone assuming I didn't already have the Note 5, the S7 is a definite winner!

Have fun folks for those who will be shopping! These Samsung phones, including the Note 5, rock!

I saw them at Best Buy. Loved the small screen form factor of the S7.

I was a Note 5 user and glad to see the design flow down to S7 as well. Now that I realized I don't need huge phones, S7 just fits in my hand with that gorgeous make and display! But will wait to buy an unlocked version though.

Cakefish, if you've got the chance, can you pit the S7 up against the S6 Edge+?

Both have 4GB of RAM, so I'm eager to see how both manage their memory.

Just so happens we've got both in store so yes I can :)

I've also heard that my work colleagues have begun receiving demo S7 edge units so I can't be far behind! I'll be getting an edge soon and I want to see how that camera and battery perform!

Edit: yeah S6 edge+ reloaded apps far quicker than S7s. It also only had 1.6GB RAM free vs 2GB free on the S7s when no extra apps were running on either phone.

Saw them today in store too. There's only black and gold colour options here in the UK.

I immediately tested RAM management by opening loads of apps and switching between them. The S7s didn't reload apps once. The S6s did very quickly. Safe to say that the memory management issue seems to have been resolved.

I also browsed Android Authority website and even with all of the horrible mobile ads it scrolled buttery smooth, unlike the S6s. Quick launch of the cameras is noticeably faster too.

Lastly, camera focus was indeed clearly faster than the S6s, even in the decent lighting conditions in store.

In summary I think the S7s have fixed almost everything I disliked about the S6s. That's why I preordered one today :)

This is awesome to hear. If there's any way you can test the signal strength between the S6 and S7 on the same carrier that would be amazing.

Can you talk further about the S6 Edge+ reloading apps far quicker than the S7s? Do you mean the S6 Edge+ was performing a task quicker than the S7s or do you mean that the S6 Edge+ had to reload apps because of aggressive memory management while the S7 still had them running in the background because of more efficient memory management?

I think he meant the aggressive ram management made the S6 edge+ reload apps before the S7 did.

The second one. S7 has far better memory management :)

I'm also really happy to see that the S7s GUI seems waaay more optimised. I installed BBC News onto the S7 edge demo unit we have in store as my S6 edge currently drops tons of frames whilst scrolling through the home screen widget with that app, so wanted to test it on the new phones. I'm happy to say that scrolling on the S7 edge was like butter whilst the S6 edge was a slideshow. I don't know whether it's Marshmallow to thank or the more powerful GPU but whatever it is, the problem has been 100% fixed with the S7s. Really glad as it drove me crazy with all the frame drops on simply scrolling a widget!

Hearing that the memory management problems may have been fixed is making my decision much easier. I'm heading to Best Buy later today to take a look at the phones. I'm thinking S7 edge in gold right now.

Didn't see this thread earlier this week! I'll check my best buy on Monday!

Played with both edge and regular and without a doubt the 7 are beast the edge in gold is stunning and fills like a polished rock already having the 6 edge plus I'll just get the black regular 7

I've tried the s7 in two Verizon stores so far. I am generally happy with it. Test calls I am not sure. My voicemail recordings of my calls sound better than my own moto x, or the droid maxx 2 in store for comparison but the S7 sounds slightly muffled and like high frequencies are filtered out. I only did one call with LG G4 and it sounded more natural but heard a bit of screeching. It is hard because the stores are noisy and each phone I suppose does noise cancellation differently, and signal strength variations etc.
I may be a bit anal about this but first and foremost to me is people understanding me when I call them in various conditions, I still see it as a phone.

Anyone do any test calls from the store to other people and have conversations?

No test calls as all the phones at best buy are not set up for that but I own both 6 edge plus and a note 5 and the call quality is great

Played with the S7 today. Definitely reaffirmed my decision to preorder the black one. The camera focus is mind blowing. I focused it into the distance, then put my finger in front of the camera and the focus changed instantaneously. Macro shots were phenomenally detailed.

Design wise, it was the most beautiful phone I've ever seen, especially with that curved back.

Graphically intensive websites scrolled like butter in chrome.

This'll definitely be a worthy upgrade over my beloved Moto X 2014. I was apprehensive going from Moto to Samsung, as I like stock Android. But the promises of an amazing camera and good battery are hard to resist.

Heck I don't know. Maybe I stayed with ios for too long and lost my passion for android. I didn't care for the 4x3 ratio cam. I know you can change it to 16x9 but the pixel only 9.1. Hopefully that won't be a big deal. (Camera best I've ever seen on a smartphone) And crazy has it sounds. Too small, feels like a toy. (May wait for Note 6)

I'm nervous about going back to android because of the software. My 6s+, just works and battery life is unmatched against any android phone. Yeah, I hate that there is no file management system and I hate the camera gallery, but not sure if it's enough hate to make me jump back to android. Im going to run it through its paces for 13 days and go from there. Definitely not wowed though.

Wow, so you won't believe this...

So I just left Best Buy a little while ago and had some time to process the S7 edge. The screen was beautiful. The camera was fast and seemed like it would take a pretty much perfect picture. Kills my 6s Plus in speed. Really liked the phone.

But...

After some thought, I kind of have that "meh" feeling too. And I think it's because of the software. Still felt like a cluttered mess. And I know it'll get zero security updates. Which doesn't leave me feeling good. I'm an attorney and use my phone for work emails and such and would like to feel secure.

I don't know. On one hand it is absolutely impressive. On the other, it's the same clunky skin and delayed updates and security patches that Samsung has always been. I'm torn.

Use Material Design in the Themes store and Google Now, or Apex and enjoy almost stock android with all the S7 hardware benefits. You only go around once.

In terms of clunky skins aesthetic, there's some really great options that will get your S7 looking like suave. On my S6, I have Nova Prime launcher, with a minimal theme from the Samsung theme app and I actually find it nicer than stock. There's also icon packs that you can get to your liking.

Security updates, if they are a serious threat Samsung will release these very fast. The smaller bugs can take time to roll out.
