Anyone trying out DK28 yet?

At first I just updated with update.zip and it was pretty sluggish for about 15 minutes. After it got set up it was pretty smooth, all my apps work, etc. Unfortunately my GPS does not work, it was pretty good on 2.1 but it's totally fubar'd now. Even with GPS test I get no satellites in view >_<.

I did a factory wipe and deleted the caches 3 times, I did a Titanium Restore and everything works better now. No lag or hangups, everything is nice and smooth. GPS still doesn't work though... I read a few supposed fixes where you odin back to 2.1, get a GPS lock and then flash to 2.2 but I'll try that tomorrow.

I originally was having a bunch of stability issues and my camera application would not launch. I copied any personal stuff off my sd card and formatted it and then all the issues went away.

Hey guys,

What is the battery life like using froyo? I am on the latest baked snack rom. As far as I know, there isn't a froyo update for it yet. Not sure I'd be willing to make the switch if it means sacrificing the battery life I have now, which is pretty awesome.

Battery's actually not too bad. Its probably not as good as baked due to the kernel. But I can get through a school or work day with some charge left with moderate to light use

I've noticed that if I'm using the phone with either 3g or Wi-Fi on now, even if its plugged in, the battery will still slowly go down. Ergo, worse battery life than before, but if data is turned off the battery life is hugely improved from before when I'd turn 3g off using an app. It can last 20 to 30 minutes on 1% battery as long as my data is turned off. Data just seems to drain it extra fast now, which sucks.

If you look through the latest epic 4g roms on xda developers forum, a couple of them have a gps fix. However idk the prerequisites for it, but its worth checking out if you have Geolocation apps and use maps

The gps with froyo rocks. I usually get a fast lock and its a 3 meter diameter.
However my GPS has been perfect without the fix.

this is weird, i my gps was working perfectly fine (albeit a little long to lock) before froyo, and now i cant get a lock at all. i tried both google nav and sprint nav, and over the course of a 40 minute drive both failed to get a lock.

Anyone else having problems with Media Hub "update needed'" but when it goes to market does not find an update. I gotta $50 dollar credit coming and i wanna be able to use it!!!

update: put it into recovery mode and rebooted and worked fine after... $50 of free movies here I come...

First off, Froyo is sweet! Except... I've tried numerous things also to get the battery drain under control. Honestly I really haven't done too much more playing around with my phone now that I have Froyo and I have noticed it is draining the battery alot quicker. I've checked all my apps are off, shut down all the usual junk to improve things but its just not happening. I normally run with just my 3g on, wireless I use on average here at home and GPS very little if any.

Any suggestions?

Also is there any good rooted versions out yet that have the Sprint bloatware removed and are kept simple to maximize battery life without taking away the new Froyo goodness?

On another note, has it been confirmed yet on this being released OTA? I searched it online last night and some places were reporting that a source at XDA said it was being rolled out Sunday OTA in certain areas to the general public.. Is this true? I've been holding off on upgrading the wife's phone if the OTA is right around the corner..

This is probably the slimmest ROM you'll find: http://forum.androidcentral.com/epic-4g-roms-hacks/46793-rom-trulyepic-v2-06-12-10-a.html

And if the quality of this Froyo version is any indication, OTA update should be coming soon.

No problem, good to hear it's working for you :D

So far it's ok-ish... battery is worse than 2.1, And it seems a little laggy...
I was considering resetting the phone. (newbie scared!)

Do I need to try a Factory Restore (Odin) or just wipe everything and re-install?

And can you recommend some good steps to take, backup, etc.. sort of a how-to?

Thanks!

As I have said before, This update has been pretty awesome. After a clean DI18 Reinstall and reinstalling the DK28 update again I am getting Wireless Network Locations and GPS working good. Plenty of extra features I am happy with. The only minor issues so far is the screen orientation from landscape/portrait is a bit sluggish. When I "multitask" and app by putting it into the background using the home button Froyo after a period of time seems to close it, I am sure that is a feature of Froyo, but if I put an close an app with the Home button I don't want it to close. Also I noticed the WIFI connection being very unstable. Was trying to download a somewhat large game that would only let me used WIFI (guess Sprint is cheap and will not let me use 3G?) and it constantly lost connection, took for ever to download a 19MB. When it finally started to work, it went fast. Also I notice that the total available RAM seems to be less, I am I imagining this or...? Anyhow I really like the update minus my few gripes.

For the people that are not getting a GPS connection after the update (I did not at first) I had to do a clean install of DI18 using ODIN and then update to DK28, I also had the GPS turned on this time before updating which might have helped.

Anyhow just sharing my experience. Good luck.

PS: My battery life seems to be about the same. Pretty good.

If you want to go back to Eclair, use this.

As for backing up, you can download MyBackup from the Market to backup your apps. Settings and everything you'll need to restore manually.

updated to dk28. works beautifully except for 2 things:

1)the home screen takes awhile to load sometimes
2)the orientation changes takes a little longer.

Battery life also decreased tremendously, but i'm assuming thats something that'll get fixed eventually like it did before. I used to get 24 hrs and now i get around like 10hrs.

love app2sd and how you can recustomize the bottom row.

QUESTION: So i downloaded the free version of MyBackup Pro. backed up all my apps and settings to my sd card. If I do a factory reset, will I be able to get back all my purchased apps and files? (haven't done this before so i'm kinda scared....) Any confirmation would be much appreciated. thanks

I just went back to stock, I couldn't live with GPS (none - hash codes don't work) and the battery drain (I almost returned because of this). The other
things are nice, its a little faster, but these two losses are deal breakers.

Use the link in Post 113 except for 2 changes
1) You can use the newer Odin you downloaded for D28 upgrade. It will not
have a box for Step 9, but worked fine
2) Be sure you download D18 dated the end of September if going stock, there
are several choices

Took me 3:17 to regain GPS and battery life. :D It was a good experience learning wise - don't be the first to jump on the bandwagon because you
get problems (should've learned that from the Pre) and I did become much
more efficient after spending a half day reading about Odin, files, and am now
comfortable to do more progressive things in the future.

Well after a day or two of playing around with Froyo I decided to return back to stock form. Its a nice taste of what we should officially have soon. I just hope the official release has better battery management.

BTW, anyone looking to roll back to stock form use the [How to] Factory Restore located here on the forum it was VERY simple once you get the .pit and .tar files downloaded. It took about a whole 5 minutes from start to finish and I was back on Eclair (2.1). If you use Titanium Backup for all your apps then restoring back to pre-Froyo will be a breeze too..

Thanks to the moderators and visitors for all the help and input on getting us noobs moving in the right direction. Now that I've done it once I'm no longer nervous about doing it. Next to try actually rooting and enjoying some of the ROMs out there while I wait on the official release from Sprint.

You should be able to re download your purchased apps from the Market - Google ties them to your account. As for MyBackup Pro, I have the paid version and the rooted features enabled, and it restores all my apps perfectly. Not sure what the limitations are of having the free version and not being rooted though.

So what I want to do now is go back to eclair un-rooted so I can get the OTA update when it comes out. What I would like backed up would just be:

1) contacts
2) app settings (like my progress on angry birds etc...)

What would be the best way to accomplish this? I can re-download all my apps.

and would I need to be rooted to use Odin?

btw thanks for all the help :)

1) If your contacts are not synced with your GMail account, MyBackup should be able to back them up under the "Data" option. If your contacts are in your GMail then they will auto-sync after you wipe your phone.

2) Use MyBackup and back up the app you want to save settings on, and select "APP+DATA" - the APP is obviously the app, and the DATA is the settings (like high scores) of the app.

Ok, played with it for a whole day now, and I think I'm going to keep it.

-Homescreen landscape after keyboard extends is slow.
-Often the Homescreen will lag in refreshing widgets and shortcuts after closing another program.
-Bluetooth voice dialing not working with Plantronics Voyager 815 or Moto 3030
-GPS fixed after doing flash dance.
-Landscape is twitchy (flips to landscape at slightest angle), so need to recalibrate there. It's the biggest hassle in Market where it has to reload the app page you're on every time orientation changes, screws up the download sliders if you're in the middle of downloading an app. (aside I don't understand why 270 rotation is a good thing, kinda bugs me...)
-Overall performance doesn't really feel any faster, but thankfully it doesn't feel slower.
-Battery life seems about equal.

Really if it weren't for a small host of improvements that I wanted (GMail app), and the ability to use Flash (which works SURPRISINGLY well on Hummingbird), this would be a REALLY underwhelming update...
