Anyone using Nexus 4 on Straight Talk?

Ok, I'm new to this GSM AT&T thing so I'mma ask you! :P

What do us AT&T ST users need to do?

I've heard so much stuff... remove the APN type, add the proxy/don't add the proxy, make a separate proxy for MMS, make a separate proxy for SMS...I don't know what to do anymore.. >:/

Use the APN settings that come with your activation kit. The only thing that is optional is the proxy setting. You can leave that off it you want to be able to run things like SpeedTest.

Ok. Another thing, do I have to name the APN "Straight Talk" or can i name it whatever I like?

I wouldn't be too worried about data roaming. I've always had it turned off on my phone and I've always had good data where ever I've gone.

I'm porting my Sprint number over to ATT straight talk SIM but man is it taking forever. I followed the directions to a T when activating online. Now neither my old Sprint Evo nor the Nexus have cellular service and it's been 6 hours. How long is this supposed to take? New GSM user here.

I ported my Sprint number to Google Voice, so it's not exactly the same situation. My port took several hours, but I did it on a weekend. All I can suggest is pinging StraightTalk about the progress.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sprint was dragging their feet a bit. After all, I'm sure they're not thrilled about losing a customer. Whatever you do, don't call Sprint about it. If they drop you before the porting process completes you'll lose your number.

So I work at the airport and they just installed this in Baggage Claim this morning, I walk past it everyday on my way out of my office lol. Is it a sign or what? I'm trying out tmobile Monthly 4G first, but now I know where I can go if i'm not happy with it lol

It can take a couple days if Sprint drags their feet, although in practice it's usually the same day or next.

I have my n4 on att straight talk. Tried watching some netflix today. Did pretty good then some warning flashed and went away and my netflix app stopped.

I might try it again to see if I can capture what it really said.

My phone port from Sprint to ST AT&T took 45 minutes or so, my wife's was about 20 minutes.

As far as roaming with ST .. I,ve been with them for a little over 2 years, first with their nokia E71 and then with an AT&T galaxy s2 ( using the E71s sim before they actually offered the S2) and have traveled all the US with my job and I have never roamed.. The phone never says "roaming" anywhere I have ever gone. But im glad I found this thread because I am about to pull the trigger on a nexus 4..

I have been using Straight Talk ATT since November 20th, I haven't had any issues at all. I average about 5mb down/1mb up (I peak at 8mb down and like 2mb up, and sometimes I get a constant 6mb down like today.).

I will list my APN settings below. Good coverage in the Metro Detroit area.

Edit : Having no proxy/port lets the Speedtest app display your download rate effectively. It doesn't effect speeds from what I have tested (somewhat), anyone else can feel free to give it a try and let us know.

APN - att.mvno
Proxy - None Set
Port - None Set
Username - None Set
Password - None set
Server - None Set
MMSC - http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy - 66.209.11.33
MMS Port - 80
MCC - 310
MNC - 410
Authentication type - Not Set
APN Type - default,supl,mms

I have a question: My att contract expires on Feb 4. Should I contact Straight talk on the 5th for porting my number and starting over with them to make sure I don't concur any early termination fees from att? I want to be sure att does not remove my number immediately once my contract is up.

Don't call, just port your number over through Straight Talk, and AT&T will get the message. I did that with Sprint and it worked out perfectly. I had voice and SMS within an hour, and data in like 3 or 4 hours. (But it can take up to 24 hours for data)

Thanks, I assume you mean call straight talk and port over the number the day after my contract expires?

I was giving t mobile a try and their signal didn't work in my large office building. I want to try straight talk att but don't want to burn another $45 to learn they can't get a signal either. Do they offer a two day trial or anything?

I don't think they do but generally I've noticed a better signal with the AT&T SIM but slower network speeds.
