Anyone with LG G4 with serial 505 ?

I have a Verizon Wireless VS986 with 505 bought on 07/31/2015 from bestbuy.com and ever since last week, reboots might or might not work as basically it will be stuck on the Verizon screen forever and I have to hold the down volume and the power button to force it to reboot which will work.

So far I have not read too many report on AT&T having this problem yet. I think 90% of them are from Sprint's. Maybe some Verizon's.

Another one bites the dust.

While any serial number I've been able to find (on menus or on the box itself) doesn't start with anything that could be related to a date (ala 505), my Verizon G4 says on the box it was manufactured in 5/15 and I got it in mid-June.

It started the boot loop issue out of the blue this morning. Calling Verzion momentarily to get a replacement.

I am paying on their installment plan for this G4, so I don't think I should have to do that on a refurb phone. I am going to push this issue for a new G4. Wish me luck!

I don't think these phones have an actual serial number. People may be going by the International Mobile station Equipment Identity (IMEI.) I'm curious about this now because I have a LS991 that I purchased last July.

The serial number is located inside the phone under the battery. The label lists the model number, serial number, and IMEI.

My SN begins with 505, on T-Mobile and no problem. An issue going forward will be resale. Who would want to buy an early production unit, 505 or 506 out of warranty? If mine bit the dust I'd demand a new replacement phone. Hope that won't be necessary.

It's under the battery, no?

Ah! Now that mine's toast and the battery is removed, there it is, "505..." That number doesn't appear anywhere else, either in the software/hardware info within Settings or on the exterior of the box. I only knew mine was made in May of last year because it says that specifically on the box.

Anyway, thanks for solving that mystery for me.

I will be receiving a refurb replacement from Verizon on Friday. I was on the call for a loooong time today, and insisted on going above the original rep's head to her manager. She did all she could at her level, but I knew she wouldn't be authorized to go outside the systemic protocol that issues a refurb as a warranty replacement.

They (the original rep and the manager) kept trying to explain why the replacement was as is, that my other option would be to go directly through LG (send them the phone for repair), etc. The factor they kept leaving out of the equation is that my original G4 is on the Verizon installment payments.

I don't have an issue receiving a refurb as a warranty replacement generally, but I do have a problem paying installments on a new phone when I'm no longer using a new phone ("like new" and all that refurb language and "testing" they do is of no relevance to me).

Eventually the manager compromised on my original insistence that I get a new G4, since I was paying for one, by crediting two months worth of payments on my account.

While I still feel as though this is sort of slimy, it was enough of a compromise for me to accept, along with the refurb G4, as an acknowledgment that I'm not getting use of a new G4. I figure my time and effort it would require to continue pursuing that is worth something, too.

So, I don't have a warm and fuzzy feeling about it, but I'm not ticked either.

the serial number is on a sticker inside the battery compartment and on a barcode on the box if you still have it.

I received my replacement G4 today (Verizon) and I am starting to feel a bit better about this. Not thrilled any of this happened but this refurb phone looks better than my original one did when I received it new at a store. If someone didn't tell me it was a refurb, I wouldn't know. I've only been using it an hour and I have about two weeks to decide which I'll keep. I sent the original phone to LG today so they could repair it and wipe the device. Based on the methods Verizon was going to try to wipe and then give up and sell the old device, I did not feel comfortable with that. So LG can take a shot and when they send me back the old device I will decide which stays and which goes back to Verizon.

Another nice thing about this replacement phone is the serial number begins with 512. According to previous comments, the impacted phones are between 505-508 and were sold prior to August. I don't know exactly when this was made but if that number indicates anything it should be sometime after that point. Hopefully this gives other Verizon customers with this issue some positive thoughts on going this route. At least see what Verizon provides. Had this phone been scratched up and looked anything like a not new phone it would be going back regardless of what LG can do.

My only complaint about getting a refurb, at least as a general concept, is that I'm still paying the installment payments to Verizon for a *new* G4 (that failed due to manufacturer defect). If I had bought the G4 outright originally, or I'd signed a contract and received the subsidized price, I wouldn't have a problem with a refurb as long as it worked well.

I think the thing is you called *611 or Verizon Customer Service which requires going through a level 1 tech to do all the diagnostics and then they will transfer you to level 2 support who are the ones that can do the order for phones. If you called Level 2 tech support at 866-892-7957, choose the smartphone option, you will be connected to level 2 directly in less than a minute and they will be able to send you out a phone directly. They are not always refurbs since by law, they have to use the Certified Like New Replacement sticker on it as there is no product packaging when they ship the phones. Just like computer hard drives, they have to label it as refurb even when it's brand new. You don't even have to keep the phone they send you since they will gladly send you another one while you still have the first replacement in your hand. All they care about at the end is that you only have one phone in your hands, each time I do a replacement, I always do atleast 4-5 replacements because there is always a problem cosmetically and I would swap out the inside parts so that I have good insides first.

The box barcode is only the IMEI number, the serial number can be gotten with a app called LG Phone Info as well.

The serial number only talks about when the entire phone is made. Refurbs or CLNR (Certified Like New Replacements) does not need to be made by that date as I'll give you some examples. The Motorola Droid RAZR HD Maxx had a manufactured date of 10/2012 if you look at the serial number but if you open up the phone, each part has a printed date. Many I received in 2014 had all the parts dated after 10/2012 including the battery as the NFC read 09/2013 for example, the camera was from 02/2014, the motherboard was a newer version with a date of 11/2013. What matters is the date on the inside components. Verizon Wireless does not even send phones out, nor do they receive the phones you send back. The phone is sent from and to Newbreed Logistics who sends them to the manufacturers. If you buy accessories from verizonwireless.com or mail order, they all are shipped from Newbreed Logistics.

Wow I didn't even know this was an issue. I am on VZW with serial 505, bought the phone on launch day in the US and had to send it in to LG a few weeks ago because the motherboard went out. Was a pretty quick fix (~10 days) and I just used an old G2 while they repaired it.

Wasn't really an issue since everything important to me is backed up (photos and contacts)
