AOD not turning off in pocket...

I locked my screen using tap to wake and was under the impression that it shut off after 30 seconds. Before I put it in my pocket, I l lock my GS10+.

Just change it to tap to wake. I don't see this as a reason to dislike the device. I love mine. Like one poster said. Where would the proximity sensor be? The device is mostly screen. I just turned my to tap to wake. No issues. Get crazy great battery life.

The proximity sensor is to the left of the camera under glass.

I think you misunderstood my original post. I have tap to wake on.

The issue is that when you have Always On Display set to always on, it should turn off in your pocket to save battery life. It has done this on every other Samsung phone except this one.

So when I get my phone I should not keep always on display always on and put it on tap to turn on? Cuz my phone stays in my pocket the whole time I'm at work. I would hope to get better battery life than my 9 plus.

Enable Tap to Wake. As I recall on the GS9+, AOD migrated around the display but never off. Having Tap to wake means less energy consumption.

Just so everyone knows , it's not nothing to do with the finger print scanner . My s10e is the same way
AOD never turns off . With previous phones like my pixel 3 the AOD would turn off in your pocket . Maybe an update will fix it .

If you want to save battery life while you're at work until Samsung fixes this, then I would.

Just to add a little more info... The proximity sensor is working and not faulty. To test, simply make a phone call and out your hand over the top of the phone. The screen turns off.

So hopefully this is just an easy software fix for Samsung.

Oddly, mine didn't start doing this until I'd had the phone for most of a week. Now it's opening all sort of random apps in my pocket. Super annoying.

Where is tap to wake? I looked in accessibility but don't see it. Does it actually fix the problem though? It's super annoying that I can't use the AOD to see if I have a notification if I have to use that. Worked fine on my previous S phones

Some users may find that a useful workaround for now. But even the "always on" mode is supposed to turn off when the phone is in your pocket. That's how it works on the Note9, even after the tap-vs-always modes were introduced with Pie.

Even so, it shows that Samsung is still releasing products with basic functionality that just doesn't work. That means either they don't test properly, or else they know the products are defective but release them anyway.

It is under Advanced features>Motions and gestures>Double tap to wake up.

So the only time I have an issue with touches in my pocket is when I wear my athletic shorts, in my jeans no issue.

I have no doubt that the pocket detection isn't working, but the jean pockets are thicker and keep the phone from touching my leg and registering touches. I use it all week at work with no issues, until I went out this weekend to the theme park and we heard music coming from my pocket...LOL

Turned that setting off for the day and no more issues. (double tap to wake)

I doubt it's the "pocket detection" to me it seems more like Samsung went for the LITERAL "AOD always on" setting, meaning it will always be on regardless of where your phone is. They just need to release an update to enable the screen turning off when in the dark or inside the pocket.
