Just change it to tap to wake. I don't see this as a reason to dislike the device. I love mine. Like one poster said. Where would the proximity sensor be? The device is mostly screen. I just turned my to tap to wake. No issues. Get crazy great battery life.

I think you misunderstood my original post. I have tap to wake on.
The issue is that when you have Always On Display set to always on, it should turn off in your pocket to save battery life. It has done this on every other Samsung phone except this one.
So when I get my phone I should not keep always on display always on and put it on tap to turn on? Cuz my phone stays in my pocket the whole time I'm at work. I would hope to get better battery life than my 9 plus.
I've noticed this also, hopefully next update get fixed must be a bug.. just curious where is the proximity sensor between the cameras?

Thank you for that, mine dont work when I cover it
Some users may find that a useful workaround for now. But even the "always on" mode is supposed to turn off when the phone is in your pocket. That's how it works on the Note9, even after the tap-vs-always modes were introduced with Pie.Enable Tap to Wake. As I recall on the GS9+, AOD migrated around the display but never off. Having Tap to wake means less energy consumption.
Even so, it shows that Samsung is still releasing products with basic functionality that just doesn't work. That means either they don't test properly, or else they know the products are defective but release them anyway.Just to add a little more info... The proximity sensor is working and not faulty. To test, simply make a phone call and out your hand over the top of the phone. The screen turns off.
So hopefully this is just an easy software fix for Samsung.
Oddly, mine didn't start doing this until I'd had the phone for most of a week. Now it's opening all sort of random apps in my pocket. Super annoying.
Where is tap to wake? I looked in accessibility but don't see it. Does it actually fix the problem though? It's super annoying that I can't use the AOD to see if I have a notification if I have to use that. Worked fine on my previous S phones
Try covering to left of the camera. I'm just going by what I read in the Galaxy S10 user's manual
It is under Advanced features>Motions and gestures>Double tap to wake up.
Does that "fix" the problem? Or at least work around it for the time being?
