AOD or not to use AOD

Should we use AOD? (Always on Display)

I've used AOD since one of my many Samsung phones came out with it but I use it now on my Pixel 2 XL. I love it even more now that I can delete notifications while on AOD screen! I don't have battery issues since I got my Pixel so I can't chime in on that.

That'd be a nice feature for Samsung to add to their AOD. Deleting notifications while AOD screen is on.

When I did use AOD, battery life wasn't affected

That's impossible for battery life not to be affected (since AOD uses at least some extra power to display those pixels with the screen off). I assume you mean battery life was barely affected or you didn't notice battery life being affected much.

A simple way to demonstrate battery life being affected is to leave AOD enabled overnight while you sleep verses AOD disabled.

My 5" Pixel 2 drains 10-12% overnight so, for that phone and battery size at least, it would be too high a drain if I left it on my desk all day for example.

For me it's fine as double tap to wake has been unreliable on any phone I've ever had. A slow double tap seems to be the way to get the P2 to work.

AOD left a burn in on my screen after about 4 days of having the phone.
Since replacing my device I have yet to turn it on.
I don't need it or miss it.

I fear burn-in so I've NEVER used it.

I disabled my AOD but have been thinking about keeping it on for weekends or for days when I'm not working. That can be an option for you as well - or plan to turn off AOD before work and overnight to optimize your battery life/health.

What kind of phone were you using - an S9?

Mine, I have it set to turn on at 10am and it turns off at 12am.

My Note 8 is the first phone I've had with AOD, and I really like it. It's very handy to see the time, day, date and, of course, texts, emails other notifications at a glance. If you double-tap, say, on the text icon and swipe the screen behind AOD it opens the text (email, whatever) for quicker viewing than the more traditional way. Plus I know when things hit if I happen to miss my sound notification for some reason. In checking the battery usage, AOD draws very little power. As far as burn-in, the AOD display is always moving around on the screen (maybe just a few pixels difference from where it was previously) so that burn-in will not be an issue with AOD.

I love being able to just glance at my phone and see the time and date. I have not notice any particular battery drain as a result of having the AOD on. Additionally I quit the battery watching game a LONG time ago. I have cord banks, cords, and wireless charging pads EVERYWHERE! lol I have stuff in my home, at the office, at the shore house, and even in my laptop/messenger bag! In the laptop bag I have USB, USB C, Lightning, and several bricks. I also have a external battery.

I do NOT like to turn off features on my phone just because they kill my battery!

I leave it off most of the time but use an app called AOD on Charge to have it turn on when on a charger, so I can easily see what my charging battery level is at.

It's not something I need on all the time anyway since I have a Gear S3 on my wrist.

AOD with auto brightness turned off and 75% brightness instead of 100%.

I fwar burn-in so I've NEVER used it.

AOD should not cause any burn in. The display moves around to prevent burn in; you can actually tell as sometimes it will be closer to the top and other times more towards the middle.

Same. I like just being able to glance over without picking the phone up and pressing the power button.
