I'm indecisive about keeping AOD on. I've just turned it off because I know it's a battery hog to have AOD on. But I also like being able to see when I get a notification especially if I'm not in the same room as my phone when the notification pops up.

Lol! I always feel like I gotta explain myself. I'm not sure I know how to explain why I'm undecided about the AOD. I think I'm just too attached to my phone.


Yeah. It saves battery to not have it on I just really love that I can see if I have a notification without doing anything to the phone .

Yes, having the aod on does use battery, but I wouldn't characterize it as a battery hog.
I have mine on a schedule, it turns on well after I'm up and about, then turns off at bedtime.

I don't use any pictures or any fancy stuff on my AOD. It's just a clock. And a basic style clock. I have mine set that way too. I have it on a schedule. It turns on at a certain time. Around the time that I wake up in the mornings and then it turns off at midnight.

I had to return my new s9+ because of screen burn in from the AOD.
I had it set on the second to lowest brightness setting.
Just the simple clock and date.
T-mobile confirmed that it was indeed screen burn.
The number "2" was evident across many apps.

It's definitely not a battery hog. It uses a little battery for sure but nothing significant. The benefits definitely outweigh that small loss for me personally but at least it's optional for people that want to maximise battery. I've had Always on Display on around 15 different phones now over 5 or 6 years and it's a 'must have' feature for me and the main reason I couldn't go back to an iPhone anytime soon. I've never suffered any Ill effects from it either and as the information constantly moves around the screen to prevent burn in. I'm not doubting what you said btw r511, maybe you had a bug in yours that stopped the always on display information moving around the screen?

Wow! After reading this, I changed my brightness for AOD to the lowest brightness. I don't think I've noticed a screen burn in yet so that's good.

It should move every few minutes. Only a few pixels up or down the screen at a time. So it'll move between the top of the screen and the bottom of the screen throughout the day. Even the virtual home button moves very slightly for the same reason

It should but I don't think it is. I even cleared the data and cache to see if that would help.

The LED notification light alerts you with notifications if you leave AOD off. I don't keep the AOD on because it is a battery hog. I just use the LED notification light to alert me of anything that I may have missed.

I'd make 100% sure before you go through that hassle. Keep a note of where the clock is on the screen then check again in an hour or so. It should have moved significantly ie from the top of the screen to the bottom or visa versa. Check the AOD app for any updates in the My Galaxy app too

I've watched it for hour and it doesn't move. It had an update last night. I feel pretty certain.

From what I see it only moves to a different location when you turn off and on the device.
