Noob question:

I recently decided to install custom rom cuz of all the talk about how great it is. im running aokp 2build 21 with gaps kernel. the question I have is if I install another rom do I have to wipe all data again like I did the first time I installed a custom rom. I just finished customizing my home screen to my liking and would hate to redo it again if Idecide to installadifferent rom. Also I hear good things about cyanogenmod but never found an official release of it fit my verizon galaxy nexus. What's the difference between cyanogen mod and the aokp rom?

So let's say I decide to get the cyanogen mod rom or whatever when it is released, do I have to re customize my phone again because I hear creating nandroid and installing new room is the right way.

also how do I update my current rom aokp if it's released. Do I again have to wipe phone and install new rom.

Btw after installing new rom I can see how it is addicting and fun but I want a way to keep my home screen designed my way while still being able to test different roms.

Thanks in advice for your help.

I used to have droid incredible and never unlocked and root. Knowing what I know now which isn't that much more I I regret never doing it cuz I was to scared.

I think a lot of devs want you to wipe the cache when you switch between ROMs and kernels. The only instance where I've seen different is if it is an update to a ROM, then some devs say its optional. There's a lot that can go wrong if you don't wipe your phone when going between different builds, so its always recommended.

The difference between any ROM from one to another is really just personal taste from what the dev puts in, as well as possibly features, stability, etc.

It does suck to have to set everything up again when you switch, but after a while it doesn't take too long. You can create backups to restore your device to a certain way it was whenever the backup was created, but starting over isn't too bad. All your apps typically re-download when you set up your Google account if you have it set to backup, and that makes it nice. After that its basically only app placement and notification settings.

Cheers mate. That helps a lot. I hear many good things about cyanogen mod what do you think of that rom and when is that officially coming out.

Incredible--galaxy nexus:cool::p:p

.

If you want to be able to keep what you set up nova launcher allows the setup to be saved, so after all your apps are reinstalled you can restore your screens from the nova launcher backup. Its nice because it is the same layout like stock, but you can change the launcher more. I just started doing this after switching between so many roms and now setup is much faster. Between titanium backup and nova setup takes 10-15 minutes for everything. Odd thing is I just start doing this when I start using a rom I really like, go figure:D.

No problem! I think that cyanogen mod is great in functionality and stability. When it will come out though, I have no idea. The more they take their time then the more they get it right. There is a pre build out now if you want a sneak peek.

You guys are awesome.im becoming more of an android head thanks to you guys .
Im definitely going to do that nova launcher backup.and yes it is quite nice navigating through home screens in land scape which is what I like best about nova as well as how easy and accessible the two launchers are. It's nice to have two you know.:cool:
