App Ops ( Access Lock ) works on G4

Location and Keep Awake are the key things to disable.

This.

Also, this isn't like removing apps and getting a bootloop. You are just restricting permissions. Worst case is the app force closes but I will tell you I have restricted permissions from just about every app this process allows and have yet to have a force close.

Just play around with it. If the app doesn't perform how you want, just go back in and edit your changes.

And don't forget the privacy protection benefits of restrictions: as you start looking at the apps, you will be amazed at how many have access to your contacts, SMS messages, camera, etc. So in addition to restricting wake locks and location for many, I recommend also restricting access to things they don't need.

For example: why does my bank think they have the right to read any messages on my device? Location: OK-help me find a branch or ATM. Camera: only if I'm using mobile deposit. the rest: no thanks.

For people using Nova Prime (not sure if other launchers do this), you can create a shortcut to control access to things instead of installing another app to do so...
- Go into Nova's widgets section, then at the top, Activities shortcut, scroll down to settings and expand, select Access Lock

Excellent. Thanks. If I restrict the keep awake permission for my local news app, will that interfere with breaking news push notifications?

I don't think so. I have keep awake turned off on all downloaded apps and still get notifications, well tell the latest update. Ha-ha but I use dnset for that . it works.

Wouldn't some apps start misbehaving if restricted access to certain features like the camera/location?

Yes. For my genie app (netgear) I could not check to see how much signal I was getting in certain parts of my house. I had revoked location. I allowed it back and was able to use the app properly again. It's a give and take.

They may or may not. I haven't had any issues at all with the restrictions and I have plenty blocked. Of course I have used Xprivacy for quite some time so i have a pretty good idea what I can and can't block.
