Hello Android Central,

This is my first post in Android Central and I am looking for some help in deleting an app from my Google Play wishlist.

My phone is a Verizon Galaxy Nexus (unrooted) using Android 4.2.2. Sometime ago, I had added an app to my wishlist to be downloaded later. Later, after I got around to downloading the app, the app still remained in my wishlist after the download process was complete. I deleted the app and tried again to download the app and the app still remained stuck in my wishlist. I contacted Google Play Support and they suggested to clear the data, clear the cache and then reboot my phone. That did not work. I then attempted a hard reset and that did not work either. I then contacted the app developer and he told me that he believed that this problem was caused by a bug in the the latest Google Play update. So now I have turned to Android Central to see if anyone can suggest any ideas on how to get this app unstuck from my wishlist. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Android Central! So what exactly happens if you try to remove the app from your wishlist? On the wishlist screen, can you tap the 3 dot menu icon associated with the app? Do you get the Remove from Wishlist option? What happens when you press it?

I agree with the process with what B.Diddy said. Welcome to the forums and to the AC familia!

B. Diddy,

Thank you for the reply! When I press the 3 dot menu icon, the only option that is available to me is "Open." I do NOT see any "Remove from Wishlist" option.

P.S. Sorry it took so long to answer your questions.

What version of the Google Play Store do you have? The most current version is 4.3.11. If you don't have it, you can download the .apk installer file here: com.android.vending-4.3.11.apk | by Android Police for Generic Device (it's a link from AndroidPolice.com, which should be safe). If you do have it, you could still consider reinstalling it. First, go to System Settings/Apps/All, select Google Play Store, and then Uninstall Updates. When that's done, download the .apk file, and then run it to reinstall 4.3.11.

When you say you cleared the data and cache, I assume this means you went to System Settings/Apps/All, selected Google Play Store, and tapped Clear Cache or Clear Data, right?

B. Diddy,

In regards to clearing the cache and data, the steps you outlined above (System Settings/Apps/All, selected Google Play Store, and tapped Clear Cache or Clear Data), were the steps that I initially took, which were recommended by Google Play Support. However, at the end of that process, the app was still stuck in my Google Play wishlist. In regards to your other question, the Google Play version that I currently have on my phone is 4.3.11.

Should I still go ahead and uninstall the Google Play updates, download the apk file and then reinstall 4.3.11?

AZ Brian

P.S. I appreciate your help! Thanks!

It won't hurt to uninstall and reinstall. AndroidPolice is a reliable source.

B. Diddy,

The apk file that you suggested did not work. I uninstalled the Google Play updates, downloaded that apk file and then ran it to reinstall 4.3.11. After all that, the app was still stuck in the wishlist. I went ahead and cleared the cache and data again, restarted my phone, and unfortunately, that app was still stuck in the wishlist. I also pressed that three dot menu icon and "Open" was still the only option. Would you have any other possible ideas that I could attempt? Thanks.

AZ Brian

P.S. After the reinstall, I also tried deleting the app and reinstalling the app, and the app was still stuck in the wishlist.

 That's me running out of ideas.

Try this: go to Google Play on your desktop, and select "Store" from the side menu. Then select "My Wishlist," and see if you can edit it there.

One last thing--you said you actually did a hard reset, right? You mean a factory data reset, where the whole phone was wiped and you had to start over from scratch? If not, then try a cache partition wipe (heck with it, try it even you did do a full factory data reset). Wiping the system cache partition clears old temporary system data, which is different from clearing an app's data cache. Instructions here: http://support.verizonwireless.com/support/devices/knowledge_base.html/51446. When you get to the Recovery Menu, make sure you select Wipe Cache Partition, not Wipe Data.

If none of that works, then I'm tapped out!

B. Diddy,

I just wanted to let you know that I tried the Wiping Cache Partition option and unfortunately that did not work either. I think I am at the point where I will have to wait for an update for either the stuck app, Google Play or for Android 4.4 and hope one of those updates can resolve this issue for me. Just in case you were wondering what app is involved, it is Retro Clock Settings. Also, I wanted to mention that I appreciate your help in all this. Thank you.

B. Diddy,

You are not going to believe this, but I finally got the Retro Clock Settings app to disappear from my Google Play wishlist. What I ended up doing this time was to uninstall the Retro Clock and Retro Clock Settings apps and then uninstall the Google Play Store updates, ran the apk file and presto change-o, the Retro Clock Settings app disappeared from the Google Play wishlist. Just thought you might wanted to know. Thanks again for all your help and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Thanks for the followup! What an odd bug. I'm glad you got rid of it!

P.S. After the reinstall, I also tried deleting the app and reinstalling the app, and the app was still stuck in the wishlist.

Just out of curiosity when you deleted the app(s) and before you re-installed them .Did you also delete them out of wish list before you re-installed them ?

This exact same thing happened to me recently. Here's what ended up working for me

I downloaded the most recent Google Play .apk File from Android Police and Saved it to my phones SD Card.
I made sure the apps I wanted to removed were uninstalled from my phone
I went under Manage Apps and uninstalled Google Play's Updates
I then went into the App (Pulls up as the OLD Google Play).
Went to The Old Wishlist and NOW the Options have the remove Option.
Removed and then Re-installed the new .apk for Google Play.

I had tried just removing and then re-installing but it didn't work for me, this way worked for me. Hope this helps!
