[APP] Swipe Dialer

Thanks for the quick turnaround Mike. This is a stellar update!

Here are a couple of issues I have run into today:
Contact Screen:
1) The rolodex scrubber on the contact screen doesn't work properly if "Sort contacts by Surname" is enabled. It's as if the list view is re-sorted but the index into the list view is not.
Yup got this on my to-do :) thanks!

2) If you search for a contact and then click on the name it causes a FC. I sent the stack trace to you.
This was my crap attempt at fixing the searching for a "a." string..... i think i have not really fixed it.... 1.6.7 will have this

Dial Pad:
3) The T9 dialer for numbers sometimes doesn't return all expected results. For example, I have two contacts with almost identical numbers 1 (xxx) yyy-zzz0 and 1 (xxx) yyy-zzz1 . When I dial xxxy, it only returns the 1 (xxx) yyy-zzz1 contact. I did notice that the contact with 1 (xxx) yyy-zzz0 as their default number also has 1 (xxx) yyy-zzz1 as a secondary number on their contact so this could be confusing the search algorithm.

remember it also takes into account the number of times you have called the person, turn off T9 will suggest your most frequently used in settings, and let me know....

4) Sometimes the "set as default" option on the Pick a phone number screen doesn't always work when you click save. This only seems to happen when the screen is launched from the dialpad.
:) kk ill look at that thanks! again good spot

General:
5) I think that the call history might be picking up SMS messages. I was texting with a friend today and it shows up as if we had been calling each other.
darn darn darn...... I need to know the call type that they are under to filter them out.. I wounder if Samsung has documented it anywhere.....

6) I've gotten a FC a few times today when I opened the app after not using it for a while. This happens with or without "Keep in Memory" enabled. I sent the stack traces to you.
Thanks, its something todo with stale data... no idea, ill look into again :))

Let me know if you'd like more general feedback other than just errors I encounter.

Once again thanks for the great feedback...

Regards

Mike

Two things. I went pro now i get random force close sometimes when i try to open the app.

Also is it possible to either have an option to remove default contact pictures or make them more transparent when no picture is present? it takes away from aesthetics with the default dark great like that. Maybe 50% transparency would help

Mike

Thanks pal,

If you long press on the call history it should give you the option to delete the call or all calls???

Hey buddy more feedback.
i am getting more FCs ,reported it for you. Is it because of Swype?

Also when i go to menu there is an option to open contacts bringing you to stock contacts. What is this function purpose?

On favorites under the name it displays the phone numbers is this necessary?

In settings> features there is no description for coverflow or keep in memory . A bit of info there would be great.

Ok hope im not being a pain.

i think stock android contacts is necesary for sync etc to work buddy.
think i froze it one time and had problems.
as far as i can gather, 3rd party dialer/contacts apps are like a skin or a slave to the stock android one... could be wrong....

Yeah i understand its linked to stock app but the shortcut to stock contacts seems unnecessary since this has its own contacts section

So I was experimenting with different wallpapers and it started to FC consistently now it won't open or even let me report the problem.

Edit: So i uninstalled and reinstalled and that fixed it. I started trying new background wallpaper again and it slowly got slower and slower each time i tried something new then would start to FC again. It may be just a coincidence. figured i would let you know.

eally appreciate the effort you are putting into this im sure trying to make apps work universally is not a simple task

Thanks again

Another great update. It looks like the version number and What's New haven't been updated on the play store to reflect v 1.6.7. Also your website link from Google Play gets a 404.

From my earlier comments. Additional comments in italics:
3) The T9 dialer for numbers sometimes doesn't return all expected results. For example, I have two contacts with almost identical numbers 1 (xxx) yyy-zzz0 and 1 (xxx) yyy-zzz1 . When I dial xxxy, it only returns the 1 (xxx) yyy-zzz1 contact. remember it also takes into account the number of times you have called the person, turn off T9 will suggest your most frequently used in settings, and let me know....

I turned off the T9 sorting and it did not change the result set. I expected two records and only one record was returned. I then edited the two contacts to make sure that they each only had one mobile number listed and now neither one shows up when I type "xxx-y". However if I type "xxx" or "yyy-zzz" both show up in the results.

I tried using an app to export the call history and sms data to see if it's easy to tell but I don't know if it actually exported all the info available. If you push a version that allows me to dump the data to a file that is available to the app for call history, I'll send it to you for review (after I cleanse the #'s).

Sort of, this should be all fixed in 1.6.8 :) swype beta is not playing ball with quite a few apps...

Also when i go to menu there is an option to open contacts bringing you to stock contacts. What is this function purpose?
It was useful before the introduction to the long press menu, its time it left now i think...

On favorites under the name it displays the phone numbers is this necessary?
A few people requested this so they knew if the contact had a default number or not... i need to add a little man in the bottom corner so you can dial a non-default number to-do agian lol

In settings> features there is no description for coverflow or keep in memory . A bit of info there would be great.
yeah good idea :)

Ok hope im not being a pain.
Not at all keep the great feedback coming its hard when your so close to something to see it objectively so i really appreciate an outside view

In the week since I installed this app, I've realized one thing: I almost never use the dialer, except for the call log. I have shortcuts directly on the desktop for my most frequently called people, and most of my other calls I find the number using Gesture Search (great app, btw: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ZC5hcHBzLmdlc3R1cmVzZWFyY2giXQ&token=GU6F3uYG..) and just dial from there. Only when I'm dialing a number that isn't in my contacts do I use the dialer, and that's pretty infrequent.

What I've noticed about Swype Dialer is that typing a number into the keypad is slow. There's a noticeable lag after each tap that doesn't exist on the stock dialer. I think it may be related to the beep tone, which I have turned off on the stock dialer, but can't turn off on the free version of yours.

hmm, sounds like the T9 lookup to me, ill see if i can optimize it anyway thanks for your feedback :)

After looking into mapping the hardware menu key i have given up...

if you read this Say Goodbye to the Menu Button | Android Developers Blog

to target the hardware menu key correctly i have to set my min sdk level to a level below 11... i cannot do this as the swipe layout only works with 11 and above....

Sorry no hardware menu buttons for you s3 peps :((( google just dont want me to-do it...
