I was thinking of trading in my 12 Pro Max for it but I can't embrace the eSIM fully like that since I switch SIMs on my iPhone which is a secondary phone to me. Maybe you folks can tell me your experience with having to regularly switch eSIMs. I totally do not want to have to call them to do so. Have the carriers allowed you to do this routinely and on your own without their intervention? Also, does this mean that if I have a physical SIM that I want to now put it in the iPhone, I have to convert it to an eSIM somehow (assume I have to contact the carrier), but if I want to use that eSIM on my other phone that does not support eSIM, can I still use the physical SIM? I guess not since that would defeat the security features? Yeah, I think it's hard for me to embrace full eSIM support right now until everyone is doing it.
It sort of bothers me that Apple didn't have to get rid of the physical SIM as they have it outside of the US and the breakdown of the phone showed there was nothing there to take up that now unused space. They are trying to force eSIM adoption in the US faster than I think the industry is ready for it but they know that folks in the sole market they dominate in the US will not revolt against it. There wasn't a reason to do this now and even though that will eventually be where we are headed, it's just too soon in my opinion. Give people the combined option of eSIM and physical.
I am a bit blah about the dynamic island. I feel like they made a big pill box like the Galaxy S series from a few generations ago, and put it in the middle - but then made it part of notifications system with the pill expanding and giving the space utility. By having the pill box shrink back to regular size gives the illusion that the pill box is smaller than it really is. I hope Samsung doesn't start to think to do that with the little camera hole.
Also their trade-in value for the 12 Pro Max was also underwhelming.
