Apple announcement

I usually go back and forth between Apple and Android, simply switching my SIM card back and forth. I have an S22 Ultra and a 13 Pro Max. I switch pretty frequently. I am somewhat interested in the 14 Pro Max, and trading in the 13 PM makes it pretty affordable, but Apple's change to eSIM only has me concerned. I will not be able to switch back and forth by simply moving my SIM card. Anyone have experience with SIM switching using only eSIM? I am with AT&T but toying with moving to T-Mobile.
Yea that part really sucks. I see Samsung doing the same in a year or two sadly. Hope I'm wrong about that.

I don't like and don't use Samsung pin windows for the reason that they provide extra unnecessary clutter.
It's useful when I'm on a call and need to type in some info. I can minimize the call screen and pull up the info I need.

We're with AT&T, and I just recently went to get new SIM cards for me and the wife's new phones (since both our cards were 6+ years old lol), and my first stop was the closest store, which wasn't a corporate store, and they said the non corporate stores were no longer giving out SIM cards, they were only doing ESIM's.

They said AT&T is phasing out SIM cards, they weren't sure why but they had a few suspicions... one was to keep people from switching phones as easily (keep them locked into a phone/carrier longer?), make it easier to keep track of users phones (theft/who knows what else?), that the constant switching could mess up account info, or the fact that they might start charging an activation fee each time you switch the ESIM to a new phone...which requires a call to your carrier and going through the activation process like a new SIM card. I would suspect the last one for sure, but it sounds like overall it's for more control... which is never good in any situation, for the consumer that is.

BTW I got 2 new SIM's at the corporate store. If you need new SIM's I recommend you get them now, because AT&T at least is definitely trying to discourage folks from using them. I will never buy a phone that is ESIM only until I'm forced to. I highly suspect ESIM only phones are a way to tighten the noose around our money even tighter.

Yep, that is what I figured, too. So what if I have two phones that I bought myself? Why shouldn't I be able to switch between them? I hate AT&T and Verizon was worse when I had them. They are all about locking you to them for as long, and as much money as possible. I will have to see how difficult it is to switch eSIMS and may just have to stay with the 13 PM.

It's not super difficult, but it isn't as easy as popping a physical sim and going about your business either. Really sucks with Apple going esim because the market will follow. Hopefully it's still 2 years or more from being main stream.

How much more mainstream does it get than Apple doing it?

I like that they made the cutout functional and I like the way they did the always on display. Other than that, they can have it.

They're only doing it in the U.S atm that's why I say that and it's only on their new series so it isn't as mainstream yet. We'll see how long it takes before others follow suit.

Anyone getting it? I'm really confuse with iPhone 14 and Plus model.
The plus is basically a bigger 14 which some want due to price. A lot of users especially the older crowd purchase the max because it's the biggest option not because it's a pro model. With that being said the plus will sell much more than the mini ever did. Believe that's also why they pushed the date further than the other 3 so that they could ramp up supply during the pre order period.

Ordered the Apple watch Ultra yesterday, ordering the iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro as soon as pre orders go live first thing tomorrow

Apple is my main ecosystem so super excited with the new devices until the next Android launch which is Pixel 7 in a month time.

I think Apple did really good with the dynamic island (apart from the name). It's really smart to embrace the notch and build functionality around it. Won't be surprised we will see Samsung do something similar with S23 series and also completely do away the physical sim in the US just like the iPhone, just like the lack of headphone jack, charger etc.

I was about to until the stupid esim now I'm 50/50 definitely not preorder right away
Yeah. Doing quick research on iPhone 14 - Plus. They have same CPU chip as iPhone 13.

Last year we invented the best processor ever...and this year you basic b#tch get to enjoy it again, and Tim think you're going to love it.

Yeah, it's completely untennable over here in the UK. Only one of our big4 network operators even offer eSIM at all.

Stopping giving the removal of the headphone jack to Apple. That title goes to Motorola they were the first lol (can't believe most tech lover omit that). I'm contemplating getting the 14 pro in deep purple but then I'm the furthest thing from an iPhone user and this is just another iteration. It will most be a paper weight for me so I'm really like do I even want to waste my time trying something I have like 5% interest in especially with the pixel 7 about a month away.

. Funny thing is I believe the plus is going to be the best seller of the 4 due to it's size and price. I could be wrong as the 6.1 seems like the perfect size at least on an iPhone. I usually go for the largest phone, but I find the max to be too damn wide. I don't see how anyone can use that phone for more than 15 mins without getting a hand cramp lol.

I really like that ultra watch.. I have that on my radar.. I don't need any of the extreme stuff but I always like bulky watches.. as for the iPhone I'm going to stick with my 12 pro for another year I quite like carrying around the smaller phone when I carry two phones..

Yes that's correct. I just like that they've made it more useful. At the end of the day it's still an iPhone so I know I will get bored quick lol. Just thought it was a cool and clever way to make use of the camera cut out and it is 1,000 times better than the awful notch it replaces.

I too think it is a very clever innovation -- but does that bar stay like that all the time and change depending on if you're getting a call or whatnot?
