Apple / Samsung Court Ruling

Maybe this is a stupid question (apologies if it is), however, I was thinking - couldn't Apple go after Google and try for rulings that would effect ALL Android devices instead of going after each manufacturer separately?

I ask because don't all Android devices that have access to the Google Play Store need to go through some sort of approval process by Google (which is at least partly why so many of the India, China & the other sub-150$ Android devices don't have access to the Google Play Store)?
If not, then never mind.
If so though, then is it not fair to at least partly blame Google since they know full well that these devices are looking & operating (as I'm sure they test the OEM software before approving a device) like competing device on the market but still let them through?

Anyway, was just a quick thought.

Ok but I used google desktop search as an example. Searching across multiple sources isn't something that apple invented nor should they be able to patent. There are fundamental things that computers do, searching is just one of them. There must be prior art involving searching of computer networks prior to apple filing its patent claim. It seems very silly to me.

If done properly, the way the search is completed does not violate whatever Apple patents cover. From everything that I have been told and have heard, these patents are very specific and extremely narrow in scope.

The iPhone LTE hasn't been release yet. How do you know it has identical hardware to the iPad LTE?

How do you know it doesn't?

And how do you know if Apple is infringing on any LTE related patents that Samsung owns without Samsung actual filing a case on said patents against Apple?

Ok, i get it that Samsung has phones that look like iPhones but the one thing that was not mentioned was labeling.

You set the two phones side by side and while they may look similar one says Samsung, the other says Apple iPhone. How are you going to confuse the two?

We're not the idiots Apple insinuates we are!

Yet evidence exists from a major retailer that people returned Galaxy Tabs because they thought they were buying iPads. Not everyone is as smart as you.

Don't see these patents against Motorola. At least the Swype to unlock.
Not bothering to look up the rest.
In any case, Motorola is selling every device they make as far as i know. Samsung is under a heavy fire for a reason (biggest competition).

..that's fine if you don't want to bother to look up rest. It still doesn't change the fact that there is ongoing litigation between Apple and Motorola.

I was referring to the phones. In the recent case, the jury found that Samsung was not liable with tablets in ripping off Apple design.

I'm sorry, I have to intervene here just to say something that is completely opinion-based, so I'm not trying to prove anyone wrong here. If someone is dumb enough to buy a tablet in a box that says SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB all over it because they think it's an iPad, that's their f'ing problem.

I understand that box tablets are large, black rectangles, but come on. How on earth did you buy a Samsung product thinking it was Apple. How is that even possible. Did you walk into a Best Buy blindfolded?!?

If enough people read about how much Samsung has copied Apple products, those folks just might want to save a few bucks, and buy Samsung products in lieu of Apple's overpriced wares. (I just got done reading a bloggers's comments about how the verdict and attendant publicity just might not have hurt Samsung at all (they make a billion dollars in revenue in less than 3 days), so even if they get treble damages assessed, they aren't going to go broke, and people now then ever, will be thinking why buy the more expensive brand)

EDIT: I didn't mean to imply that Samsung products SHOULD be cheaper than Apple's because of any real or imagined deficiencies. I was referring to consumers' thought processes that if something is roughly equal in function, many of them prefer to save a few dollars. Having said that, I doubt that Samsung or any other non-Apple mfgr needs to exact the ridiculous profit margins that Apple gets away with. Apple's arrogance shows in their pricing.

Yes, I have 2 friends who got a galaxy phone because of the publicity of this lawsuit.

All of them have been levied against Motorola in cases around the globe.

Apple has launched numerous lawsuits against Motorola for "copying" their devices. The number of claims being made world wide by Apple is ridiculous in my opinion. The Samsung case was a gift to Apple. What gave Apple the victory over Samsung was the email evidence used in court.

iPhone 4S released as the iPhone 5 was no match for SII, and why try to damage a company by legal means if not because your product is not as good. This has been the way that computer companies have been operating since the days of the Sinclair ZX81. So I think Apple is also in the Spec war.

If we did not allow the Far East to take Western ideas and improve them we would still have cassette players the size of a hardback book, as there would be no walkman. CD players would be only available on stereo systems, and the MP3 player would be something from Sci-Fi, so I say let the Far East take inspiration from Western designs. As they very good at improving them, even if they cannot invent them.

CD players, VCR's etc. We're taken and improved upon for the consumer due in part to US companies believing Americans would not buy them.

CD's were thought to be too much like the old 8 track tapes.

Thanks. So where is this case now? I haven't heard of any Moto phones being pulled off the shelves. And this link states that Apple had no luck with the same case in Netherlands.

Edit: found it

Still don't get why galaxy s3 is the target since there's no defined path to Swype, just like others went around this silly patent.
By the way, gotta love how you can Swype into a new message, camera, browser, etc. without unnecessary unlocking. Apple BS only makes Android better

You are able to go straight into the camera with Apple's slide to unlock.
