Apple's injunction on the Nexus; UN hosting mobile patent talks.

Re: "Apple lands preliminary ban against Samsung Galaxy Nexus."

Gonna be tough to force an ota to a device that doesn't run the stock recovery, isn't it?

Yeah, we (flashers and the like) won't get it just like other OTA's. If you wish to accept it, revert everything back to stock, including your recovery. :)

Re: "Apple lands preliminary ban against Samsung Galaxy Nexus."

According to an article on the Verge, there will be an OTA for all Galaxy Nexii regardless of carrier. It's going to restrict search in the home bar and in voice by removing the ability to search through gmail and your local files. Past that, it'll remain the same..

And I'm sure the original search function will be built back into ROMs for those who want it.

Re: "Apple lands preliminary ban against Samsung Galaxy Nexus."

Google Desktop was in Beta status in Oct 2004...and I take it you never heard of the LG Prada....that actually released at least 6 months before the orig iPhone. Released or shown...it won an award about 6 months before the iPhone launched.

Yea...they patented the hell outta the orig iPhone....with technology that MS was already using....Check the history on Microsofts Pixel Sense...formally Surface. Unless multi touch was part of that touch company Apple bought. They get so much credit for....multi touch capacitive displays.....yet the Prada had a capacitive touch display and is all but forgotten.

Lets keep it real about Apple...they do make good products...but it isnt as magical as some make it. Case in point....MS had a Surface tablet for display looooong before the iPhone and iPad. Using multi touch technology.

I know the LG Prada, but LG did not go through the arduous process of patenting their phone like Apple did. So it does not matter. Apple did the necessary patent work to protect their phone and now that the patents are being issued they are suing those who are infringing on the patents.

MS also sued Google and they settled for royalties on each Android phone sold. MS makes more money off of Android than it makes off of its own mobile OS. I am pretty damn certain that if Apple was infringing on MS patents, then MS would be suing them as well. They sued Google for infringement, then why would they not sue Apple. You make it seem that MS is playing nice and Apple is not. Apple is not interested in a licensing agreement with Google. MS was interested and they settled and made good money.

I am pretty sure that had MS had a patent on the original Surface, then they would have sued Apple already. Again, they sued Google and made millions, so why not sue Apple for a licensing agreement and do the same.

Re: "Apple lands preliminary ban against Samsung Galaxy Nexus."

So....Apple doesnt even have a working product for this....and might can use it as ammo against Google for Glass....

If Apple isnt considered a patent troll.......I dont know what is.....this is getting really ridiculous.

Re: "Apple lands preliminary ban against Samsung Galaxy Nexus."

The madness will end when Google, not Samsung, comes to bat. That needs to happen; Apple has been suing Google all along, but with its manufacturers/hardware folks. There just needs to be Apple v. Google so that this just settles.

That is half true. The hardware is fine, for the most part. The UI is what is so damn similar, right? Now is a great opportunity for someone to innovate something fresh....something new, something DIFFERENT!

My post was mainly addressing this:

The patent that triggered the ban dates back to 2004. At that time having a unified search of multiple data sources/bases was indeed unique. That is why the patent was given. Today this is nothing new, but back then it was innovative, hence the patent.

United States Patent: 8086604

Some of you are judging these patents by today's standards. Judge them by the time they were issued. Back then they were innovative.

Apple patented the hell out of the original iphone before it released it. I still have a CR magazine that dates back to January 2008. I looked at all the phones that the magazines tested and none of them had the look and the touch interface that the original iphone had. All of the phones were flip/slider phones or keyboard candy bar style phones. Today, all phones look and feel like the iphone only larger. Look up that magazine and tell me if any phone listed looked or felt like the iphone.

Not talking about what they patented....or the energy they put into patenting...talking about prior art....unless Apple filed that patent before 2004.

And the Prada was an all touch screen phone, no keyboard. The Prada was already shown before Jan 2008....so whatever was in that magazine in Jan 2008 doesnt mean anything.

Alot of ppl think popularity = innovation. It doesnt. I give Apple credit for good products.....but some folks like to put them on the highest of pedestals.....when in reality they are like any company. How is the iPhone or iPad considered so innovative...wihen the orig Surface tablet was shown years before either one? And the LG Prada was out before the iPhone? Patents or no patents....just talking about technology in use before either one was out.

So the way you make it....it doesnt matter what technology was in use before the iPhone or iPad...as long as they patent it...and get the patents...( crazy as that sounds)....they have the right to sue anyone for it?

Like I said on another forum....THANK GOD they are not in any other industry...we would all be screwed.

This is Apple using archaic patents to roll. Maybe Google should just buy RIM and create a brand new Android Nexus with BBM, using BB10's interface? I know I'd go for that :)

Then why did Google not sue Apple for ripping off their notification bar, and RIM not suing Apple for ripping off BBM?

Get the Iphone Impeached and banned from selling within the USA, simple, case closed. Samsung withdraw your materials from the Iphone. Google remove all properties from the Iphone as well.

Under normal business circumstances as many have stated, those should have been done?

Re: "Apple lands preliminary ban against Samsung Galaxy Nexus."

It isn't about the patents so much as it is about timing. A snake knows when to strike.

Yup. They can now sue Google for Glass and they don't even have a product yet. It's Google's fault though. They should have patented the tech when they thought of it.
