Applications re-opening, help!

Yeah I had the screen on full brightness and that ate through my batter. Now I auto adjust and honestly its really good. I love that feature now.

Today was my first full day with NO task killer installed. For the majority of time (85-90%) I did not notice any slow down. However, there was some at times. At one point when I looked in the "running applications" section I saw I had just 7.2 mb free + 40MB in 9. Currently I show 12MB+53MB in 10 Other 47MB in 3... Still don't know how to interpret that... can anyone explain?

Also, will this get better as the droid "learns"? I don't want her to get down to 7.2mb on a regular basis.

If it's just a random occurrence, it will sort itself out eventually. If it's "leftovers" from apps you run then close from time to time, it may not. I would use the task killer to selectively kill things you pull open, then will not need until you open them yourself again.

To get a better idea of your free memory, download a terminal emulator and run
df -h
in landscape. It will tell you free/used info on all the mount points on your phone

i stopped using tk's and seems to be running pretty smoothly. We ex-bb users need to stop being ocd about our internal memory. good luck everyone.

Applications Running unexpectedly

Curious, why this is considered benign. I observed that the web-browser would keep pinging updates of the page it is on (say financial.google.com). Someone who bought the phone without the data-plan (there is a wifi, so you don't ) would essentially be getting dinged, it seems.

Also, just because viruses are not yet common, this seems to be laying the foundation for virus hell. The uncontrolled launching of apps, the inability to remove unused/unneeded/unwanted apps leaving legacy hooks to for the creative.

This one feature, the inability to "take control" of what I want running, just hasn't settled in / it is wrong and does have subtle consequences, even if "top" says its not making it slower.

Not yet sold that one should accept this so lightly. Perhaps I too will be assimilated, "http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Assimilation". But alas, a lone individual, with nothing to offer - likely to be ignored.

I just made this account to post... I have been having this "My Uploads" thing come up on a BRAND NEW T-Mobile G1. I have not installed many apps, and this happened BEFORE any apps or progs were installed.

Anyway, this has been happening on my STOCK G1 for months now, and every time I google NOTHING useful comes up..... it's a SCARY app as it pops up at LEAST 3 times a day. The only way I know is because my speakers make a "data clicking" noise when the phone is about to get any data (most people know what I mean)

So I open up my phone, and Lo and behold.... there is MY UPLOADS as the culprit.

I do NOT use Picasa, never have, I do NOT have any pictures, or video.

I basically know what I am looking for, and can't find it..... this "MY UPLOADS" app is SCARY... can someone who is a Dev with android PLEASE post if you have any info?!?!?!? PLEASE!

This is getting to be BS! My batteries get EATEN over night sometimes because of this MY UPLOADS, I mean 25%-50% just because of this random app which seems to open and close by itself, uploading data I do not know of!!!! SCARY!!!! :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X

This is my first post, I'm going to spam this request on all boards I find! Thanks

This has been happening since 10-1-2009, on my STOCK G1!!!! No bs, maybe I installed about 3 apps from the market, NO pictures, nothing for it to upload! Everything gets closed out, nothing is left open!

Sorry, this is insane because I can't find an answer yet.... NOBODY KNOWS! NOBODY!

Also I would like to add 99% of the time the "MY UPLOADS" Process comes up, the CALENDAR app is ALWAYS opened RIGHT before it.

Also, whenever I make a call... even if its 5 seconds, or 5 minutes. Right when I hang up, this MY UPLOADS app opens BY ITSELF, and sends data and then closes (this happens all within one minute of hanging up a call)..... now call me paranoid, but my phone sending UNKNOWN data after EVERY SINGLE CALL is fu#king SCARY... no????

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP US! The unknown noobs! One of you android devs has to know what this bogus MY UPLOADS is!!!

Google finds nothing useful! Nothing, go and look, I bet you cant find anything.

OH and this my uploads thing comes up after EVERY call, uploads data...... scary????? I THINK SO!!!

I TURN OFF ALL APPS, I have ALL BACKGROUND data off, believe me.... I am not stupid and have tried it all.

This app MY UPLOADS needs to be looked into.... I suspect something highly suspicious, especially since I've been looking for a fix for MONTHS and not one person can come up with anything on the ENTIRE INTERNET.

SCARY, someone please help us

Still a reason to be concerned....

LOL! Thanks for clarifying. I guess I am just paranoid coming from a Blackberry. Man things in the background would KILL my blackberry. Right now I am getting paranoid since I have weather, twitter, USA today running in the background along with all of this stuff that I DONT need, like Corporate Calendar, Bluetooth, etc. Is there a way to uninstall? I mean I never plan to use Bluetooth and I don't have exchange so Corp Calendar is useless..... But you seem confident in assuring me that my performance will not suffer as a result, no?

I do appreciate the concern being an X- blackberry pearl user and don't miss it at all with the EVO. On any device, lower memory has performance implications. If I have commonly used apps loading in memory, I have no problem with the device running better because of it. However, thre ARE applications loading that don't poll, aren't used or haven't started using...why do they load. I've reviewed all admin and they load all by themselves. Footprints, Documents on the Go, Amazon MP3, Sprint Football Live, fring, QIK, FM Radio, gallery....After pulling the battery and then running advanced App killer...30 minutes later I have 31 apps loaded resident and I havent touched over 20 of them.

The droid OS is doing this and there's no reason the memory to be used.

Why do they load?
