AC Question

So I just received a promotional gift of £50 Google Play Credit for buying my Nexus 6P a while back. Struggling to see any apps worth using the money on in the Store but may just be blinkered after years of using free versions.

Any advice on where to spend this credit? Movies/books are a no go as I Netflix everything anyway.

Cheers in advance for any advice.

Allcast and Poweramp are pretty good especially if u have a Chromecast... Allcast is my goto

These are the two best apps on the playstore! For the wireless users(chromecast and Bluetooth power user right here!)!

Digitally assigned space taken up by my Chromebook, M9 or N9 <(•.•)>

My essential paid apps.

1Weather
Action Launcher 3 + Donate
Falcon Pro
Launcher X
Moon+ Reader Pro
Nova Launcher Prime
Pocket Casts
Scanner Radio Pro
TuneIn Radio Pro
Zooper Widget Pro

These paid apps are always on my devices.

Action Launcher, Pocket Casts, Falcon Pro 3 for Twitter (make sure you can get a token though). Also, if you drive a decent bit, you might find AutoMate useful (the premium version is an in-app purchase, I believe).

Paid for Nine. Definitely worth it if you want to put your work email on your phone. But my company made us switch to Airwatch. :/

Paid to get rid of ads in games like Words With Friends and tools like Ampere. Ends up being worth it.

Paid for AccuWeather and Pocket Casts.

With apps like Google Opinion Rewards and bonus offers from Chromecast, it makes it easy to kick a few bucks to developers that make apps you use on a daily basis.

Interesting, I also paid for Nine and the company I work for also makes us use AirWatch now. Does the company you work for start with an "A"?

I know that I'm in the minority here, but I would much rather pay for Apex over Nova any day if I had to choose between the two. I actually have the premium of both and still don't get why Nova seems to be the more popular of the two.

As others have stated Google Opinion Rewards is a must for earning free credits. For the paid apps I am a big fan of Greenify (rooted), PowerAmp (music player), WatchMaker Premium (Android Wear), Five Nights at Freddy's (Game), Any icon pack by Kovdev (really great work), NBA Jam (game), Leo's Fortune (game), Plex (media server), and mSecure (password manager). I've had a lot of purchases on the Google Play Store, but I'll leave it at those.

Poweramp
Datavault password manager
ACar for car maintenance etc
Car Home Ultra
Isyncr to sync playlists from iTunes
Tasker
Tagger if you want to use nfc.
Nova
wirelessly
WiFi Explorer

Don't buy plex if you have multiple devices on different platforms. If you sign up for lifetime subscription, which is a one time fee, all their apps are free

TSF Shell 3D launcher - (easily the most customizable launcher. Blows nova away)
Beautiful Widgets Pro
Zooper Widget
FX Explorer paid add-ons. (most powerful file Explorer. Beautiful, split window file transfers, wifi file manager, material design. Add network drives and cloud storage easily.)
Power amp - Best music player
Sleep as android - alarm clock, sleep monitoring.
Super beam - instant file transfer between android devices
Zedge - ring tones and decent quality wallpapers

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Definitely check out TSF Shell launcher and give it a try!

Some nice picks in this list so far.

For me:

Solid Explorer (I've also paid for and used FX Explorer for a while - it's good but not as good as Solid)
MacroDroid (a Tasker alternative with a much friendlier UI and very close to as powerful)
Smart Launcher Pro 3 (I also own Nova Prime, Apex and Action Launcher 3)
FolderSync (my first app purchase ever - abandoned it after a short period and came back to it two months ago to find a polished fault free app)

Some of these are free or payment optional. In no particular order...

Nova. Prime - automatic choice.

AquaMail - the best email client. The Best - period.

X-plore - the best file manager IMHO. Fastest UI to use, fastest running operations, does everything and does it well.

FX File Explorer - try this if you can't get used to X-plore. Beautiful UI and a fine file manager. Honorable mention to Solid Explorer.

FolderSync - just plain handy.

Firefox - still my go-to browser. Nice UI, lighter than Chrome but it's the available add-ons that really set it apart such as Aa (dark mode) AdBlock Plus, etc.

Orbot - when you wanna be anonymous

Google Voice & Voice Choice 2.0 - terrific combination.

I don't think utilities get much mention. Mostly just file managers and Tasker.
Some favorite utilities:
3C Toolbox
Root Toolkit for Android
System Panel
OS Monitor
Advanced Download Manager
AFWall+
WiFi Analyzer
Portdroid
Network Connections
HE Network Tools
Terminal Emulator
SuperSU

Launcher X? You do realize that they have blatantly plagiarized the hard work of other Launcher developers, right?
