April factory images (Update: OTA is live!)

Re: April factory images

So, let me ask you guys because I have only had my Pixel 2 for 6 days. Do you just update and keep going or do you do a reset on big updates? I've conditioned myself over the years of running bloated carrier phones with infrequent updates to just do a factory reset because it seemed to save a lot of headaches and it was only maybe every 3 months. Is that not necessary with the P2? This looks like a big update!

These updates don't usually require a reset. Only if something borks.

Re: April factory images

Oh wow the OTA is live... Well I'll just load now versus side loading later :P.

You don't HAVE to update but if you have all your stuff backed up and have the time, it is a good idea, especially since this is a major maintenance update (as noted in the build number, OPM2.171019.029, Apr 2018....the M2 is the maintenance release version).

I have my Nova launcher backed up, my download folders, etc. backed up automatically, whattsapp chats, etc...I just have to install a few sideloaded apps and re=add a widget or two that might have an issue with the restore.

I only reset if I have problems or if I feel like it at the time but I hear what you're saying.

I don't wipe unless I have issues. I used to do the whole "just in case" thing like this but I am just way too lazy for that now.

Since having my Pixel 2 XL I only had to wipe it one time after an update (big one) due to the FP scanner acting wonky. Otherwise I have had no issues.

I was hoping to see some Bluetooth issues addressed. Not for myself, but for those that seem to be having issues

My P2 surprised me earlier this afternoon by just updating on its own and asking me to restart!

Two quick questions for those of you who have received the OTA:

1. Are you a Project Fi customer?
2. Has your Google Play Services (beta) app been recently updated to version 12.5.21?

I'm wondering if Google has once again "broken" the Check for updates option or if Fi is blocking the OTA.

NEVERMIND: Apparently just a weird delay. Maybe too many people hittin' the update checker at once for the servers to cope. The OTA is installing now @ 7:57pm. The GPS update is not an OTA killer.

Still nothing here. Been pushing the button for hours! So tired, can't focus, need update lol.

I got the update OTA this afternoon and restarted my phone. I am on Verizon, and my Google Play Services is on version 12.2.21.

Loaded OTA about an hour ago... Was surprised to get the notification icon on the 2nd... Early this month??

Re: April factory images

slowest download ever....you guys are overloading the server...... abort now so I can get mine??????
For me, Step 2, the installation step, was torture. Sideloading the full OTA would have been as fast, even including the time to download the 1.1 GB zip file: 18 minutes from download to restart.

I just got the update by hitting the check for update button unlocked with tmobile. I'm not on the beta nor did i ever update the google play services thing.
