April's Update

Google set the precedent by having timely updates pretty much every first Monday, for YEARS! Then they tell us with their own silicon, updates will be so much easier and faster. Yet with the introduction of their chip, they have had timely updates maybe 10% of the time while delaying everything else. None of this would be an issue if they had some semblance of a PR team to communicate any issues with their users, however I guess that's asking too much of a multi billion dollar company.

I've grown to expect these updates to be delayed now anyway, and I wasn't even looking for it this time. It's not really a surprise it's pushed.... Again...
I agree that when you've had timely and consistent updates for years, any blips in the system are glaringly obvious. I actually forget about updates now and just accept that I'll get them when I get them -- but it would be nice if they were more consistent and came on time!

I like an update as much as the next guy...you know getting your fix...but I don't want no artificial opioids in my fix! In other words, I would rather receive an uneventful update late than to receive one full of bugs. So let them get it right before they release it. The last thing anyone needs is to have their vital communications tool become defective due to an update!

Same here. Ever since the 6pro which was an update debacle, I've kind of just expect it to be delayed now. At least most of the time they still get out a monthly update, bar a few random months where they didn't, the updates have been fairly "on time"

I totally agree! I'd rather wait a little longer for a functional update than get one that breaks my phone!

That's true! Most of the time they still got updates out and when they come, they come!

Again, would you rather them release an update "on time" with a borked feature somewhere or would you rather them release it later with everything patched and all vulnerabilities patched? Pick your poison and stop complaining and live life.
Not to mention, it takes ages to install a small update, like 2-3 hours on the so called Flagship device!
I've seen that on every Android device I've owned. It's not exclusive to Pixel.

I love it when they exhort folks to update right away, due to some security problem or other, but don’t supply the bleeping update.

Stop using that excuse.

They have barely released anything on time since tensor came out, and when they do delay an update to "get it right" they break 5 other things in the process. I guess keep making excuses for Google's poor QA..

I actually held off on the March update with my Pixel 7 because for the first time ever, I was a little nervous about downloading it. But they don't let you ignore it for very long!

It's not an excuse. There's a really bad vulnerability out right now and they are working on patching it in full. Maybe you should apply to work for their QA team since you think you can do better.

It is an excuse.

It's the same thing every time they delay something,

"...they are working on getting it right this time... relax everything will be fine... do you want a update that will break things or an update that fixes things..."

yet they release an update, and it then breaks like 5 other things they claim to fix. We are Google's QA, the way the Pixel 6/7 have arrived to the public I highly doubt they had any type of QA besides "Does it turn off/on?"

I "hear" all the arguments for and against and you all make valid points.
And even though I prefer to wait until the update is as bug free as it can be I do wonder HOW is Samsung able to release the VERY SAME update to their phones, with no glaring issues, BEFORE Google can/does when it's Google who makes the update?
DIscuss!

I feel like Google is kind of over extended now with how many directions they are trying to go in. Between that and the way they kill things off randomly, I'm kind of surprised the Nexus/Pixel line has lasted this long.

When Qualcomm was handling the SOC at least it was a little less off of their plate. Now with tensor, and pulling people from assistant for AI, and the layoffs, Google seems kind of lost.

I despise Apple, but they do create a very unique user experience. I wish Google would hone their resources a bit, and focus more on that, instead of just tossing random stuff at the wall, then summarily killing it off a year later just for fun.
