Are phones getting too big?

And my point is these options exist. Heck, I'd lump in the Moto X there because it's not 5".

Its not that they don't exist right now. Its that the change is only happening now. The z1 is still not out yet, the droid mini comes close but its only 1 OEM and Verizon exclusive. Moto X is the last option. HTC ONE mini and SG mini do not count here. Options are still limited but the times are indeed changing for the better. But if the phab ppl had their way, nothing would have changed. They want us to accept that "mini" specs is good enough for us , but not for them.

I don't mean to lump everyone into one blanket, but that has been the energy in the last several years on this forum.

Just a little point, screen size isn't the matter. It's bezel size. My phone with a 4.3 inch screen is the same size as an iPhone 5 because smaller bezels.

That may be true for something like the Moto X, but once u get into phab territory, there's nothing u can do to hide that ginormous screen.

A Note 3 is only slightly bigger than my parents GS2. The Note 3 is actually more comfortable to hold than the GS2

Just like expandable storage and removable batteries, I'll worry about it when the options no longer exist.

I do think that phones are getting too big.

people dont like change. I didn't like the big phones either... I used my nexus one forever, was perfectly happy with it till it broke, and wanted to get another phone with same size
* thought those samsung phones are so huge they look ridiculous......until I got a s3 for free on contract renewal

Gotta say, it's hard to me to go back to "normal" size now coz I can see so much more on this screen. I do see the benefit now
(as silly as I still think those people look when they put a huge phablet on their face)

I actually prefer larger phones and consider going even bigger ....

Yes phones are getting too big, but it's only for those who are not used to them. Obviously there are demand for bigger phones, so if people wanna buy them and use them... the questions is why not? :)

Meanwhile at BlackBerry.... We have one phone that uses last year specs!

Options are very thin. I was frustrated with my phone, but shopped for a year before I was able to buy something that fits in my hands and pockets and runs android 4.x. I didn't want to go to Verizon.

I planned to get one of the minis, but they took forever to be released in the US, and then, when I was all ready to pull the trigger on a Samsung mini, I learned the US one doesn't work outside of the US. No go.

I ended up with a Moto X, even though I had a very bad experience with my last Motorola and didn't want to buy from them again. It seems to meet my requirements, but I would have liked an sd card. I'm not feeling like there are a lot of choices right now, unless you want a giant phone.

(By the way, I suspect that's actually a technical limitation. The fast chips and high-res screens power a lot of power, and manufacturers try to mitigate that by including a giant battery, which makes the phone large.)

I'm probably one of the few people that welcome the large phablet phone's. I've always had a lot of problems with the smaller hand sets as my hands are huge. Even my note 3 looks small in my ogre like meat hooks. It could be worse manufacturers could go back to the micro phone sizes again.

Just because options are thin doesn't mean that the options are gone.
