Are phones getting too big?

Just because options are thin doesn't mean that the options are gone.
I waited a year to find a phone that met what I was looknig for. That is, I wanted a new phone, and there wasn't an option on the market in "small enough for me" that met my desires re specs in other ways. There were lots of options I would have been happy with except for being "too freaking big". So no, options aren't gone, but they are awfully thin, because flagship phones got too large. I think the Moto X and the Sony that hasn't made it to the US are a reaction to that, and I hope that reaction continues.

Hey, I'm happy that people who want large screens can buy that. But there has been a real dearth of high-end phones that aren't enormous.

After using Android phones for so long, my 5s' screen initially felt smaller...because it is. ...but I adjusted very quickly like when I went from owning a Honda Accord to a Honda S2000. Its nice to have a one-handable phone again and I didn't think I'd feel that way. The iPad rMini nicely fills in for when I want a bigger screen. I wanna see how the G Flex looks in person.

It looks ridiculous.

jk. It'll take some getting used to.

LOL. The G Flex is a big phone and its curved so yeah, there's gonna be some adjustment to it. I want to read what people think of the screen quality.

I hope phones will revert in the near future to more buttons, side-wheels and switches, so a little more depth; and foldable screens for when you need a full screen (OLED will lead there).

Half the time the screen is partly taken over by menu buttons, keyboards, settings and notifications that can be displayed in other ways.
We don't need phone bodies to be wide but have wafer thin profiles. Something shorter with more substantial rounded bulk like a gaming mouse (OK not that thick) , ergonomic finger controls and enlargeable screen area.

I have been trying to mate my Note 3 with a few of my 2004 Sony Ericsson P910i's, the one with the 5 way wheel, stylus and fold down keyboard behind the number pad.

No attraction as yet so no spawn. I'll keep you posted.

I agree that the phone screen sizes are getting ridiculously big, but on the other hand people need big screen that can fit into the pocket so they can experience original content the way they were meant to be consumed.

I guess we'll just have to wait until we have a foldable flexible display and enough computing power (someone must be working on it), so that everything fits into a palm or even your wrist. TALK ABOUT FUTURE, EH !!!!

I'm surprisingly finding that the iPhone 5s' size is great and when I want larger I use the Retina Mini or Air. I think Apple knew many of us would feel that way but there are still many that only want a one-size fits all larger display. Since that'd impact Apple's sales they've not been rushing to it. At least that's my hypothesis.

I find the phones getting bigger is reasonable because with bigger screen you can have more benefits than smaller screen. Not necessarily big screen is always better but a lot of people like it while it still fit in a pocket without a problem.

As long as their continues to be one-handed phones there's nothing wrong with two-handed phones.

I would like to see a Droid Mini Maxx. I'm used to the 4.3 inch screen on my Razr Maxx, and having the same size screen on a smaller phone makes me want to run to the store and purchase it right now. The only thing holding me back is the battery life. I'll probably end up taking the Droid Maxx even though it is larger than the Razr Maxx, simply because the Mini may not last as long as I want it to.

With Motorola giving the Mini the same CPU specs as its larger devices, hopefully they will continue this trend and keep a powerful smaller phone available to consumers... and upgrade the battery in the future.

Motto needs to ensure their phones have very competitive cameras, unlike currently, IMO.

Very true. I was just looking at the battery perspective, but yup, they definitely need to work on their cameras.

every time I jump into my car with my Nexus 4, I wait for the crack as I feel the phone in my pocket. I want my next phone to be just a little bit smaller.
Tablets and phones seem to be merging!

Both my husband and I are past 50 the larger screens are great for us. Especially my husband he can see it more clearly than a smaller phone and the keyboard is easier for him to use. There will always be a demand for both size screens.

Another big phone lover here. I do a lot of reading on mine, so bigger makes sense to me. I also have quite long fingers so reaching power buttons and across big screens is possible for me. I understand how some people want smaller screens though - particularly ladies. A lot of females have smaller hands and want smaller phones. I think, eventually, we will see phones being offered in different sizes - look at the Z1/Z1 Compact for instance.

I'm amazed people get so het up about it though! Shows how obsessed we all are with phones!

Our phones are our very own personal personal computers. ...more and more an extension of our beings and many of us become passionate about that extension. However, unlike how iMore suggested recently in a piece, I keep my phone and sex-life separate except for communication, I'm not THAT passionate about my phone.

Well you have to think bigger screen size is a plus for people who are into those things.

I actually prefer keeping my phone clean from certain ambiguous bodily fluids.
