Are You Enjoying You Nexus 7?

I would be enjoying mine...if I still had one. Went through three, and all three had significant defects. I'm not talking about me being picky - I'm talking about creaking/sticky/loose screens that tightening the screws underneath couldn't fix.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss people like this. Sure, there are some people who have gone through 10-15 that likely will never be satisfied, but there are definitely others who have gone through 2-4 (like me) that have all had legitimate defects. I'm not saying it's the standard, but it's definitely happening.

I like Google and I like Asus. I'm not saying they are bad companies. But at the same time, I don't think they are immune from criticism here because of a 'vocal minority.' Enough people are having problems for the issue to be mentioned on several pretty big sites. Some people may be overreacting/too picky, but it's pretty hard to deny a manufacturing defect has occurred with the release of this tablet.

And also, in my opinion, the price point of the Nexus 7 (or any product for that matter) has nothing to do with my tolerance for manufacturing defects. Again, this is my opinion - I'm not saying anyone has to agree with me. I don't care if its $249 or $2490, there isn't an excuse for the product not being built as designed. If you choose to put out a tablet at a lower price point, that's great. I applaud you for the decision, especially considering the fact that you're going to recoup a certain percentage back through the sale of content. But you don't get to release a tablet, a significant number of which are suffering from a fairly apparent manufacturing defect, and expect consumers to tolerate it because the tablet was priced competitively.

Mine has the screen creaking/ loose defect. It's not worth taking back. As long as it function for what you need to to, keep it.

Mine also has the creaking in the left side but I got mine in a case now so it shouldn't be a bother to me anymore.

I respect that, as your choice, for you. If it's not a problem for you in daily use more power to you. I'm honestly not trying to tell anyone whether or not they should return it. I'm just saying that for me, when my tablet creaks whenever I hold it using my left hand, that's a problem.

I am loving mine and have not had a single problem with it. I use if ereading and light internet browsing.

Im loving it.

You have the right to your opinion but you're part of the vocal minority. The majority of Nexus 7 owners are having no problems. The vast majority of satisfied N7 owners aren't going to make a thread saying how defect free their N7's are.

Truth is that if you look up any reviews and videos by tech sites, you would never know the N7 has any hardware issues. All reviews of the N7 are positive and I have yet to come across a negative one. Google hit a home run with the Nexus 7 and if it in fact was "half finished" which it is not, this would't be the case.

I'm sure if this thread included a poll, the majority of people would say that they are happy.

I would have to agree and also add that fact people only saying the device was rushed because Google/Asus mention the short time frame they were working with. If people did not know time frame the minor problems N7 would be seem for what they are minor problems that all new tech has when they come out. No piece of tech has come out without bugs not even the iphone. I have wanted tablet for long time and new what wanted it for. I wanted 7in tablet less $300 by either Asus or HTC with quad core and the latest android software. The Nexus 7 fits my needs perfectly. Buying product your not quite interested when it comes to tech is a bad investment you have to look beyond price and hardware. Tech should improve your day to day life in a specific way. My N7 replaces my laptop and phone for browsing, media and reading when I am at home or traveling. Furthermore IMO my N7 improves the experiences I have my laptop and smartphone in a more convenient matter.

The very first day I randomly went into staples and picked one up I wasn't convinced it was a good buy.

After the second day and every day since I can't seem to keep my hands off of it. I love it. On one hand I would prefer 10" ipad3, but I don't have $700 to drop and I have been sold on the 7" being very portable; it fits in my pocket nicely.

I think I may buy my wife the ipad 4 when that comes out when she gets her second degree, but I love this device for my every day purposes.

And - staples gave me, for $50, a 1 year no-questions asked warranty from accidental damage. With my two children, i think there is a very good possibility that this device may break just before the second nexus 7 comes out :p

What a device. My GNex battery is staying nice and charged because of this thing.

Amazing how people whine and B#$@ but rushed out to get one only to complain in public like a cry baby only because your Wife and or Girlfriend is also tired of you complaining also!

If it doesn't work for you that is fine, but take your sorry boring storys to another forum.

Its a great product and for $250 the price point is great..I sold are iPad III and we bought two Google N7 and don't even want to compare but lets see Flash, Navigation, Google Now a few things you cant do with an iPad at 1/2 the cost!

Is it perfect..no but didnt expect it to be also.

There is just a core group that buy just to buy and have no clue what they are buying!

Then rant and rave about disappointing products.

To the knuckhead that has gone through 4..yea right we all got the 1st wave of them and it sold out almost instant. I could not be found anywhere then Google started filling back orders with a two week delay and you got replacements 3 each one with a different issue...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ya ok

Perfect no Great yes and with Google things just get better..

Mine also creaks. I would prefer that it didn't, but it doesn't impact functionality, so I don't care. And now that its in a case, I'll probably never hear it creak again.

I'll say again that I am getting a lot of use and enjoyment out of my N7!

I use mine daily. I bring it to work for note taking in meetings, and use it as a video player/e-reader at night.

Dude chill out. No need for that tone. No one is whining but you. And yes, people have gone through 3 or more before they got a good one. The same was said about people with the VZW Galaxy Nexus. Some would swap 6 or 7 before a good one. It happens.

This thread has a decent tone to in, and coming into it and calling people "knuckhead", which I think you meant knucklehead, is not appropriate behavior.

I am thoroughly enjoying mine. I think the size is perfect and the screen is amazing. And I even bought the 8 gig version! Gasp!

It's amazing. I use it 4+ hours every day. It's the perfect form factor. With splashtop 2 I have an 8 core gaming rig wherever I go.

You're just the one I quoted because there were four replies echoing this across two pages. Nothing personal.
So, because you cannot get a couple of magazines the devices it inferior? This device is amazing. May not be amazing for everyone but no doubt, it's one of the better released this year. This device destroys the Kindle Fire, no matter how you spin it.
This sort of fanboy blindness is what will prevent Android from surpassing Apple and Amazon in the perception of user-friendliness. I get that we're all part of the Mobile OS Master Race (closely related to the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race) but to the John and Jane Qs who have made the iWhatevers the biggest thing around, the garbage we have to endure to have Nerd Bragging Rights? are ridiculous and will bite us in the arse in the long run.

Let's compare what you have to do to watch Amazon Instant Video on the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire:

Fire: Go to Video section, pick whatever you want, watch it. Done.

Nexus 7: Track down Flash apk from XDA because it's not available on the Play store. Track down Firefox BETA, because plain old Firefox doesn't load from Play. Duct tape them together (provided you're not going the root-install Browser route) and then go to Amazon and fumble with the desktop windows layout to watch your movies.

Yeah, given the choice between a $200 device that allows you to watch video in three clicks and another that requires two things to be installed - one from a uber-nerd site following instructions from another nerd site, and then is still a kludge - which one will Grandma enjoy?

As for the magazines, Next Issue has been getting one-star reviews for months as their latest update apparently doesn't work well with ICS, much less JB. Again think of the non-nerd public: Do you really think that people are going to forgive lack of apps because of OS upgrades? Really? REALLY?!? Don't be silly.

When you can buy Wired or Vanity Fair from the Play store for $20 per year, but you can't get the free version that dead tree subscribers with iPads, Fires or Nooks get, people are going to shrug off the less-useful device.

As the fanboys seem to have overlooked because they got their knickers in a twist at the sight of legitimate complaints, the Nexus 7 is a very slick bit of kit. The screen is beautiful - once you get one that's not trash, that is - and it's faster than hell. My GS2 made my Transformer look like cold molasses and the N7 makes my phone look weak. BUT all that speed and polish doesn't matter when it doesn't have the same level of app support.

Yes, you can use Amazon AND Play apps, etc. but for my use, the Nexus 7 is badly gimped AT THIS TIME. I'm hoping for improvement sooner than later, but as I detailed above, I'm afraid that Amazon may be limiting and/or inducing content providers to limit things to their device exclusively. There is no technical thing preventing video or magazines from running on the N7; it's all software and someone isn't making it work for some reason.

So, in your own words, the only aspect of the fire that is better is the ability to use Amazon prime. So there you have it. If you don't use Amazon prime you have no reason not to buy the N7. Pretty sure that an Amazon device being able to use Amazon services more efficiently doesn't make it a better overall device.

And as to flash support, I found it interesting how you go to great lengths to make it sound like it's some incredibly difficult and complex task. It takes like 3 minutes and even the noobiest noob can do it without any trouble. It doesn't even require root.

And Grandma? Well my grandma loves Netflix and their endless episodes of the Dick Van **** show. Netflix works great on the N7.

The kindle fire is not even in the N7's class. Get over it.

1) If you're referring to me, I absolutely promise you I'm currently using my 4th device, which I'm probably going to keep. The screen lift is pretty minor and only makes a little of the sticking noise. But I've gone through 2 via brick and mortar stores (buy and exchange) and 2 via the Play store (buy and exchange). I live in the LA area, and I promise you that between Staples, Office Depot, and Walmart, they can be found. So calling me a liar here doesn't do much.

2) If you find my 'whining' 'boring', then just skip it. I was offering my perspective on what I felt were shortcomings in the launch. These manufacturing defects have been reporting on a pretty broad spectrum of sites. If you don't want to read about them, don't click threads where the topic of a defective unit is applicable.

3) Your grammar sucks.

People, people, nobody is wrong if they use the device that works best for them, and allow everyone else the right to do the same. No matter which phone or tablet you use, far fewer people are judging your coolness based on it than you think. So just use what you enjoy.

...People actually pay money to read magazines nowadays?

And why do I care about what Grandma or Jane Q likes? I am not old or computer illiterate. That's the problem with Mac fanboys. They are diluted in thinking proprietary and dumbed down is a good thing.
