Are You Enjoying You Nexus 7?

My disappointment with the N7 stems from the appallingly poor app support it has which makes it currently vastly inferior to the Kindle Fire. As someone who thought it would smite the Fire out of existence, I'm rather embarrassed by my preliminary enthusiasm.

* No Amazon Instant Video unless you hack together Firefox Beta and Flash. Amazon just rolled out an iPad app, but I fear their desire to protect the same Fire will lead them to hose Android users.

* No Conde Nast magazines for those entitled to free tablet versions for Wired and Vanity Fair on dead tree editions. I can supposedly get VF and Entertainment Weekly via the Next Issue app/service, but Play says it's not compatible with any of my tablets and the apk available from their site crashes on launch. The one-star reviews tell that sorry tale. Funny how you can buy them from the Play store, and huh?

Some of shortcomings can be attributed to new OS teething pains, but I see more than a little potential conflict of interest on the edges.

Considering how beautiful the screen is and how fast and slick it feels, it's a shame that lack of apps cripple it when stacked against the Fire.

Wait, what?? You know the Kindle Fire is an Android tablet, right? I don't understand what you mean by poor app support. And by vastly inferior.

I should also comment on the apk crashing. That's not the OS, it's the developers of that app.

And you are basing some of your opinion of the fact you can't get a couple magazines?

I'm still waiting on mine! Order it August 7, 2012, hopefully it gets shipped soon with no problems.

Well I myself just love my new nexus 7 tablet, I brought it a week ago from GameStop and i think it's a great tablet. I have many other android tablets they are 10 inch ones also an iPad 2 tablet but this is really a smooth and handy tablet, so now I have put the other tablets away and I am playing with this one. I just love the feel of the 7 inch. I went on Amazon a brought a few different cases for it,b so I am enjoying my tablet.:)

"hack together "? No disrespect intended, but installing flash and Xscope (vastly superior to FF in my opinion) hardly feels like hacking to me. It took me all of two minutes to be up and running.

Also, any perceived lack of app support should be attributed to the N7 running the bleeding edge of Jelly Bean. The app developers will catch up. It may be a minor inconvenience now but believe me, this is a good problem to have.

By the way, if it wasn't obvious from the above post, I adore my N7. This is my first tablet and immediately became my primary device. My evo is basically just a hot spot now.

I thoroughly enjoy mine. I use it mainly at home since at work I use an iPad. (Shutters). But I use it to do all my browsing and streaming at ho,e. My phone gets untouched here.

My Nexus is perfectly fine and my phone has pretty much been abandoned since I got it. Such a great device.

Going on 3 weeks now. And I have to say I LOVE this device. I never had a android device where I feel it is so good out of the box. I don't have a compelling need to root it.

My Samsung vibrant, nexus s, galaxy nexus I had to root and flash custom Roms and kernels to enhance and utilize its full potential. But with the nexus 7 it is so smooth and snappy that there isn't a need for me to make it any better right now. I will eventually tho cause of my nature of tweaking and tinkering my devices.

I love the ui and widgets. The speakers are surprisingly loud for a tablet and the 7" form factor is easy to type on. I am so satisfied with my purchase and loving android more and more.

So far I've enjoyed it. I keep it with me once leaving the laptop. Even in just the next room in the house, etc. I can easily keep up to date on forum discussions, website updates, hardware and software issues/releases. The gaming on it is superb as well. I'll even be happier as more and more apps are updated, etc.

Great little device, for a great price.

Someone above implied that there are so many positive responses because we haven't had them long enough to lose interest. not true with me. I had my kindle fire for a year and never lost my excitement for it. and now this tablet absolutely blows the kindle away. I can't see myself losing my excitement for it.

LACK OF APPS?? The number of apps that work on the Nexus blows away what you can get for the Fire. The Nexus is faster, more responsive, more comfortable go hold, and installs more of the shops I want than my Kindle fire did.

I am a current iOS user that bought it to "try out" Android without committing to a 2-year phone contract. The first Nexus 7 I got had some freezing/rebooting problems, so I returned it. That combined with the Google Play release mess, I ALMOST gave up on Android.

Well, I decided to give the Nexus 7 another chance, and I am SO glad I did! No problems, and I absolutely LOVE the device!! Perfect size for taking with me everywhere I go! :)

So, because you cannot get a couple of magazines the devices it inferior? This device is amazing. May not be amazing for everyone but no doubt, it's one of the better released this year. This device destroys the Kindle Fire, no matter how you spin it.

PS: I've been going on Android Central from my Nexus 7 a lot so I'm starting to enjoy it more:D

I would be enjoying mine...if I still had one. Went through three, and all three had significant defects. I'm not talking about me being picky - I'm talking about creaking/sticky/loose screens that tightening the screws underneath couldn't fix.

Your on you fourth? I mean no disrespect...but your either extremely unlucky, or your just going out of you way to find every possible flaw. I'm not a tablet guy, as a matter of fact this is my first one. Yet, I'm very impressed with this tablet. It looks amazing and runs like a dream. I doubt another will be high enough for your standards, but I hope you find something that makes you happy.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss people like this. Sure, there are some people who have gone through 10-15 that likely will never be satisfied, but there are definitely others who have gone through 2-4 (like me) that have all had legitimate defects. I'm not saying it's the standard, but it's definitely happening.

I like Google and I like Asus. I'm not saying they are bad companies. But at the same time, I don't think they are immune from criticism here because of a 'vocal minority.' Enough people are having problems for the issue to be mentioned on several pretty big sites. Some people may be overreacting/too picky, but it's pretty hard to deny a manufacturing defect has occurred with the release of this tablet.

And also, in my opinion, the price point of the Nexus 7 (or any product for that matter) has nothing to do with my tolerance for manufacturing defects. Again, this is my opinion - I'm not saying anyone has to agree with me. I don't care if its $249 or $2490, there isn't an excuse for the product not being built as designed. If you choose to put out a tablet at a lower price point, that's great. I applaud you for the decision, especially considering the fact that you're going to recoup a certain percentage back through the sale of content. But you don't get to release a tablet, a significant number of which are suffering from a fairly apparent manufacturing defect, and expect consumers to tolerate it because the tablet was priced competitively.

I love mine! It is my first tablet, I just never saw the use in one before. I have a laptop and a rooted Thunderbolt and never thought about a tablet. I bought my wife and daughter kindle fires several months ago and on occasion used them to browse the web rather than fire up my laptop on the couch. They left me with a small desire for a tablet and when I saw a stock NEXUS tablet available for pre order I jumped. I received my pre order on July 30th I believe and played with it all day at work muted because I didn't want to draw attention to my playing on company time. When I got home I fired up my Spiderman game and realized that the speakers were blown. They cracked and popped at 30% and anything above 50% was just distortion and static. The Play store sent out a new one and I returned the old. Fired up the new one and everything was perfect, until I shut it off. Two days of trouble shooting its lack of powering on with Google Play and various forums led them to pick this one up too. They are just refunding my money as I picked up one at the local Walmart to avoid the shipping times and further credit holds on my card. This one is perfect so far...I can't put it down. My Tbolt that was always in my hand at home has now become a dedicated hot spot for the N7 at my rural (yet LTE saturated) home.

I love my N7....course I still love my Xoom, Fire and Razr Maxx as well. I think I am just an android junkie! My Exhibit 4g sometimes makes me crazy...but that just may be cause I use it too much and is probably overloaded. The N7 has become my take with me device and my phone is my hotspot :-)

Actually, my N7 is replacing my Fire because of the reasons stated: lack of apps. I couldn't get the apps that I had on my phone or GTab 10.1 on the Fire because they weren't in the Amazon Store without sideloading or rooting. And the apps that were there, I refused to buy the same app TWICE. Pain in the @$$. I haven't ran into an app I couldn't put on the N7, not to mention it's much more customizable. I never knew how much I would enjoy a vanilla Android device over TouchWiz or Sense or whatever Amazon calls it's OS modifications.

I'm not bored with mine yet, but a friend just texted me last night " well I'm officially bored with my nexus". So the new toy feel might wear off for some and not for others. My boyfriend wants to sell his for the new Note tablet, but not because he's bored, but thinks it will be more handy for what he is using it for ( school stuff). Gotta find what works best for you and sometimes that's no tablet at all.
