Are you happy with your s6 Active

You always have to do what is best for you.

Like I said I really like my Note but I really liked my Active too. My Spigen case came in today's mail, and it has eliminated the slippery aspects of the phone completely. I know it doesn't make it waterproof though .... Ha ha...

Well, I'm leaving a Verizon Note 4 and going to AT&T, so I still have a choice to make. I just finished reading the "Have you thought of returning your Note 5" thread and it bodes well for the Note 5! I am not worried about the "waterproof/dustproof thing after almost a year with the Note 4, I've grown accustomed to the S-Pen (not like I use it all the time, but) and the i-Blason case I have on the Note 4 is available for the Note 5 and makes it look very much like the S6 Active!

I still have 'til just after Labor Day before I make my move so I don't have to jump. However, I should probably just stop reading before I drive myself NUTZ! Thank you very much for your input! And, everyone else who has weighed in... it's nice to have plenty of data/opinions to work with!!!

I love my active. The battery lasts me 2 days on moderate use. The camera is amazing. I have not experienced any lag so far. I like the fact I do not need a case. Screen is clear. And again the battery is amazing.
I had a note 5 but the battery was horrible for me. And I was not a fan of the size. I've had just about every phone lol. I have an issue with wanting new technology.

Overall, the S6 Active has been one of the best smartphones I've owned (Apple iPhone 3g, 4, 5, MotoX 2013, OnePlus One. Best screen ever, best camera ever. I've never dropped one of my previous phones (all have had cases). But within a week of owning this one, I dropped it while taking a photo... no damage except for a small scrape on this bad boy. I love that I don't have to have a case on this guy. Water resistance is awesome, My friend had an S5 that he washed under the sink after a 'dirty' meal and water resistance became a 'must have' for me. Battery life has been sufficient for me as it gets me through the day of pretty heavy use with near 5hr SOT and about 30% battery life remaining. Quick charging is awesome for when I just need a quick 'top off'. I find myself using my phone a lot more now that I don't worry about battery life. It is a pleasure just staring at that screen.

Now, the negatives. I replaced TouchWiz launch from day one and changed the theme to the free material one from the Samsung Theme store, however, CyanogenMod for the OnePlus just gave me sooo much more configurable options. The details from the tweaks are amazing. I miss double-tap to wake and some of the off screen gestures. There's just something about the Samsung OS that just keeps me from loving it. The physical buttons do take some getting used to.

Now the possible game breaker for me. I noticed that when multi-tasking, unless I am switching between two very recent apps, that the OS recycles my apps much too quickly. They are on the multitasking window, but when I want to launch it, it has to start from the beginning. This is most noticeable on games since they take quite some time to load from scratch. So multitasking on the S6 (I think in all variants) is pretty poor. The worst thing is, with the Active variant, we'll probably be considered the last to get pushed updates since we are limited in population (and only on AT&T). This memory leak is documented across the internet and there may be hope in 5.1.1, but I don't have much faith that the Active will get that for quite some time. Anyone else notice this? I don't have a memory cleaner app, I've downloaded and tried to disable 'bloatware' with package disabler, but really, switching between open apps is much slower on this phone than on my previous phones.

I love the phone, dislike the software, but wouldn't trade it in for any other flagship or upcoming flagship.

 After all the help and advice I received here from you folks, I just ordered a new case, a package of tempered glass screen protectors and a Fast Charge Car cord for...

...wait for it...

...a Note 5!

I spent about an hour at Best Buy yesterday afternoon with the Manager of their Cell Phone Dept and he owned a regular S6 and a new Note 5. He showed me all the good features of both the Note 5 and the S6 Active in the store - he actually likes the Active also but couldn't give up the pen, so he bought the Note 5.

My wife and I chatted back and forth about it on the way home and I looked back at how many little things I used the pen for. I couldn't say that I use it every day but I do use it enough to be used to having it there now. I used it twice last night and again today - I took some measurements on the roof of my RV and quickly jotted them down in S-Note. End of story! Thanks again for all the advice and help!

Have to agree...the S pen seems like a draw...but in actuality I used it very little when owning my notes 2 and 3...I simply can not place a high enough value on the ruggedness of the S6 active -- just fits me lol

I agree. Almost a week since I traded my Note 4. Love this phone. Great battery life and the same great screen. Also love not having to put a case on it. The Note 4 was a great phone but just too big for me and I never used the SPen like I thought I would.

I think the S pen is a great concept but when I'm in a hurry, it's not something I would remember to use lol

Congrats. Do stop by the Note 4 forum after you've had it for a while and let us all know how it's working out for you. It's great that your choice seems to be working out for you so far! :)

I have had my s6 active for about a week now and overall not that happy with it. The camera is awesome it does very well with gps tracking and is a nice looking phone. I feel like it is a lot slower than my old lumia 1520 though. The screen doesn't seem to recognize touch very well. I often have to hit the button multiple times. No one at AT&T seems to think it is that bad and blame it on a screen protector even though problem happens with phone naked. It's an ok phone just makes using apps, playing games and texting about impossible.

Josh, return it. I have tempered glass over my screen, and even with the protector on it's the most accurate digitizer of any phone I've tried. AoN

How do I return it? I went to AT&t store and asked about this and they didn't seem to like that idea and told me can some RMA or something but I will be without my phone for up to a few weeks which does not work for me so thought I was kind of just screwed

You decide. Return through att or Samsung. Either way, you'll be without the current phone for a week at least, maybe a month. You could go back to using your old phone. AoN

I did the whole trade in my old phone.... Going to try and see if I can just return the thing and get a refund and go back to Verizon instead so I don't have to be without my phone for up to a month.

Well, in 3 days I've had my covers, I haven't lost any of them, but with 20 in the package I bought, I'm not worry about it. I think that if you use those covers without any cover then the direct contact may set them loose, but I have a casemate bumper case, the bumper cover blocks the direct access to them so that may be a reason why I still haven't lost any of them.
How do you like that casemate bumper case? I recently bought a case, but it's too bulky for me. Since this phone is already rugged, just need a thin case that is grippy and prevents dings and scratches.

I liked it while I had it, it was a perfect combination of thin, protection without even a more rugged cover plus it allows to show the whole phone.

I sold my S6 active and went to the Note 5.

I like my S6A quite a bit. Occasional lag here and there. I've found a quick restart every once and awhile helps.

Great:
Camera.
Waterproof.
Battery life and charging speed.
General speed.
Screen (image quality, autobrightness, outside/inside, accuracy/sensitivity).
Mobile signal strength (better than iPhone 6, Xperia Z3C, and surprisingly, BlackBerry Q10 and Passport).
In hand feel.
Decent notification control.
Decent customizabilty.
Touchwiz way better than I remembered/expected.

Eh:
No Play edition.
Occasional lag.
Software updates (possibly, not expecting much here).
Security (BlackBerry to Android user).
32gb only.
Aggressive RAM control (app and webpage reloads way more than Q10).
Bluetooth volume control.
No "keep screen on when I'm holding it" option like BlackBerry or Xperia (aside from the eyeball detecting thing).
Little side panels get a weird coming loose feeling after a short time.
No fingerprint unlock.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. Kinda thinking about that Note 5 as it's the same overall size and that S-Pen looks really nifty. Is there really a Note 5 Active in the works?!

As an aside (before I dash off to Google Note 5A) for all who say they don't need a case: I thought the same thing until I cracked my screen two weeks ago. Dropped it from about 4ft onto my concrete porch, landed face down. Didn't shatter, but it hairline cracked in two different directions starting from the far left side edge near the volume down button. Right next to the raised rail that's suppossed to protect the screen.
I have a case on my replacement device now.
