Seriously considering switching

I like my Xoom for the most part. But washed out screen is starting to bug me, as well as lousy volume switch (which irritated me the first time I used it).

And despite my fondness of split screen typing on a tablet, typing more than a few sentences is a struggle, so an optimized keyboard that has a battery is appealing when i want it (rather than Blutooth that drains the tablet). Plus the very irritating lack of support for the SD card and 4g upgrade is pissing me off, as is the limited function micro USB port - I want ability to connect thumb drives and USB connected devices and the failure of Xoom to add that basic capability is a F U to customers. I also like that is is possible to charge the Transformer via usb if need be.

All in all, the Transformer looks like a Xoom killer, and possibly a serious ipad contender - Though i have no experience with Asus, I'll really have to find build quality issues or unexpected glitches to not be a soon-to-be Transformer owner. And my two Xooms will likely be going back for refunds...

Look at them side-by-side at Best Buy on Tuesday and pick whatever is best for you.

Here is the comparison chart:
Comparison Chart: Xoom, Transformer, Galaxy, TouchPad

When this poll was started, our best guess for the Transformer was June. I think that coming in April caught everyone a little off-guard.

It would be interesting to see another poll start on Tuesday after everyone can see them side-by-side.

Not a chance. Never been happy with anything Asus.

Sir you should try their gaming laptops.... their line is the cheapest and they are always amazingly specced.

Also, no, the US version of the Transformer does not have GPS, I know it isn't really needed for something tat is wifi only but to be honest, you feel like you are paying less FOR less. It's always great to have specific hardware for the future, which is why I want to get my future devices with NFC, front facing camera, gyroscope, etc.

Keeping my xoom the transformer looks like a good tablet but if a keyboard was that important to me I would have bought a laptop. Xoom is addictive and a great tablet and only going to keep getting better.

The Transformer supposedly has a wi-fi only assisted GPS, meaning it can get your location only when connected to wi-fi, or something like that. Also, the camera does not have a flash. Personally, I'm keeping my Xoom since I think it looks way nicer than the Transformer (thinner bezel, metal two-tone back) and is more likely to get updates faster. Plus, it's been rock solid for me so far.

Those are valid points indeed. I don't however like the two tone Wifi Xoom nearly as well as the 3G/4G unit. I was a bit surpised to find out the Wifi model is a blueish/grey lower with a flat black top while the 4G model is Black on Black, which I like much better.

The bezel is very thin and nice, doesn't detract from the screen and the updates may come into play as well.

All that being said the KB/Battery dock, full sized USB and SD ports will probably sway me to the Asus since I do travel a fair bit by air. Battery life and connectivity tend to rise to the top of my list of important features, not to mention I can type much faster on any type of physical KB than a screen. My thumbs are hopeless to train for those thumb KB's heh.

For anyone still deciding, just know that the software will most likely be the same on both devices, buggy. Basically though, the Xoom has a little more of an upper hand, with a better GPS, more software support( thus far it is being used as a dev unit for the majority of Honeycomb applications), and in all honesty, better cameras. The 5mp camera may not be as good, I could be wrong but another downside would be that it has no flash. The dock is pretty weird though, it's nice but it makes the device a little thicker.

Love my xoom, but I personally just feel the transformer will work best for me bc of the kb dock. I think i can overlook the ugliness for the extra functionality which I need as a college student. The xoom is probably better suited for others who don't really need a kb and or need a bit more solid feeling device. And for those who say why not just buy a netbook or laptop, I already have one and its a hassle to find an outlet in the library as I only get 3 to 4 hrs batt life, plus the laptop is much heavier, and slower to quickly pull out and use real quick.

Already found the correct answer, and it does have a GPS reciever, that was just rumor before the NDA was lifted. Proceed on. :)

better GPS? How do you come to that conclusion? More software support? ASUS has already released a firmware update, has Motorola? The answer to that is no, btw.

Keeping the Xoom, for sure. Nothng Asus has ever made has impressed me in the least. I'm sure it will be lighter...because it's probably made of plastic.

ASUS's netbooks are very sturdy machines. And they are made out of plastic....

Then I'm sure the Transformer will feel more like a toy, like the Asus net books do. Great for a little kid though!

I'll take a working SD slot, an IPS screen, and faster firmware updates on something that "feels like a toy" over the Xoom any day.

Ill take a better camera, flash, a working GPS, and a solid feel over the I PS screen and a dock.

People still think the ASUS doesn't have working GPS?

Read the anandtech review and now I think I will be returning my xoom to costco on Tuesday for the transformer.

Who cares about a camera on tablet? Just a useless function for most users that merely adds weight and cost. But give me a better screen, USB that supports flash drives, has a working SD card and my two Xooms are going back (the Wifi version is already on its way back and my 3g will follow in a few weeks back to Costco).

The Xoom will soon be forced to cut its price below the equivalent Asus due to lower specs. And where is the promised SD card functionality and 4g pray tell? Two months since release and no update is BS. MOTO screwed the pooch and I suspect Google isn't about to choose them again as a preferred partner anytime soon.

You do realize the USB ports are only on the dock, right? In context I'm not sure what these "lower specs" you're talking about are aside from the IPS screen, which most people haven't even been able to judge side by side...

Honeycomb is borked... from what I gather Moto is at the mercy of Google and Google is... hell I don't know what they're doing. I do think it's funny how many people seem to think the Asus is going to be the answer to all their problems with the Xoom, when reviews are still saying that Honeycomb on the Transformer is... "immature," to put it lightly.

The Transformer does look kind of neat, but I'm not really interested in something with a netbook form factor. I'll give Google (and Moto) the rest of my 90 day Xoom return policy to fix up Honeycomb, else I'll probably write off the platform until after Ice Cream Sandwich. I don't know if tablets can really gain developer traction until or unless there's a common Android OS scaling from phones to tablets.
