Are you still happy with the g4?

Some may not want to root. I would rather just change apps if the stock lags (I usually use SwiftKey anyway) and not have to root since I wouldn't use root features.
I must say that swype also improved my enjoyment level of keyboard input overall...it's a new trick for an old dog..

Nice :). I can't Swype .. my brain for some reason just won't work properly for me to Swype with accuracy. It causes me to go way too slow and still make mistakes haha ^_^.

Mine just fell out of my pocket during an exercise.

Fell face flat on a wooden floor.

It has the Spigen Slim Armor case on it, so that case took the brunt. However, there's barely any damage on both, minus a miniscule tear on the corner of the case that's really hard to notice unless you squint.

I use Google keyboard I've never once had lag. You can even turn off the swiping gesture typing

Of the issues mentioned, I'm only experiencing the heat... it's not something I had with my old Note 2, but this phone is a gazillion times faster, the screen is far brighter, and the screen has a far higher resolution. So my feeling is that the heat is the price you pay for all that power. However, if it was metal casing, the heat would probably dissipate faster. (Here's a recent AC article doing a heat comparison between modern flagships: ).

I'm not getting any lag, but I understand (from reading nearly every G4 forum post) that lag may be due to carrier software issues.

For battery, I'm very happy with it. I can get 24 to 30 hours of standby time (if I do a clear-all frequently), and I usually get around 3.5 hours of SOT. For both battery and heat issues, I highly recommend doing a "clear-all" to calm the phone down.

As a means of moving in the right direction, if you choose to stay with the G4, please read through the Common Issues and Solutions sticky ( ) where there are both Lag and Heating thread links. I suspect, however, that you've already done that.

EDIT: One more thing to try, re: keyboard lag... do you have a bunch of screenshots in the clip tray? If so, try deleting them from the clip tray and see if that helps.

sswitzer,

do you think debranding the phone will help with the lagging?

I was referring to how some folks have found that switching channels has made 5GHz more stable for their g4]

In support of what you're saying, this should be pretty much standard WiFi housekeeping. Thankfully where I live, the folks aren't so tech savvy so they're all stuck on Channel 11 lol. Gives me plenty of scope to play :p

I've had my G4 for a little under a week. A typical day includes several calls, texts, e-mails, social media, and lots of music streaming so I feel I've been able to test it in a short period of time. My previous phones were an S6, Turbo, Iphone 6 (only phone work provides), G3, G2, Moto X 2014, S3..... So far I'm enjoying the phone.

My only complaints with the G4 are the Google Play Services bug taking up battery life (I've checked the thread and tried to fix it), a few times where it has lagged/studdered, and the size is still just a bit more than I prefer. Considering it's a 5.5 inch screen, the phone feels like a smaller device. It feels lot better in hand than the Turbo.

The S6 was great but I grew tired of the battery life, it's generally my number one complaint with a phone. Too much was made over the materials of the S6. It's undersized battery was a serious oversight from Samsung. Add wireless charging to the G4 (which I did) and I'd consider it the best flagship of 2015 thus far.

It's a G4 issue. Even with the battery drain, battery life is a million times better than the S6. The fingerprint sensor is the only thing the S6 has on the G4. I haven't missed it with Knock Code.

I'm hoping that touchscreen improvement will help with some annoying issues. I rarely get Knock Code to work on the first try. It's usually at least twice, and sometimes 3 attempts before it works.

People with the H815 model are reporting that a new firmware (10C?) appears to be helping with touchscreen issues. Hopefully that's true, and that update will be rolled out to everyone. Without breaking the ability to keep root access.

I'm still happy, but man that Moto X Pure/Style REALLY has my interest peaked!! (man, I'm such a phone *****!)

G4'ed it!

I can totally echo that sentament, but I'm really thinking about going Nexus again.
I'm with you on the Nexus statement too. Especially with manufacturers stating that they will start implementing monthly security updates ... Having something easy to root/unroot will be huge!

G4'ed it!

I would have waited to updated from my Nexus 5 but my wife needed a new phone. Her M8 took a crap on her and she wanted to get away from HTC. I had told her about how LG had been good to me regarding phones and would have felt bad not upgrading with her. That being said, I'm still totally loving my G4.

Just made the switch from iPhone 6 Plus, my first Android device since 2010. So far I'm very impressed with the G4, much more customizable than iphone!!

Looks like the answer to this thread "Are you still happy with the g4?" is a vast majority of YES. For those recent posters opining that they will prefer the next better thing coming -- duh. I'm not criticizing mind you: I always want the next thing too. Some of us will never be "satisfied" knowing that something better is just over the horizon, regardless of of manufacturer.

Only had mine g4 for a week. The phone is great. But im still like ehhhhhh do i want to keep it... Im thinking of trading it in for the note 4 to see if I like the UI then get the note 5 if i like it.
