Are you still happy with your Gear S?

Still wear it everyday and feel naked if I forget to put it on. Even if I'm going out somewhere formal and wear my normal wristwatch as it's a bit more dressier I instantly look at it for notifications when I hear my phone go off in my pocket. Yeah a lot of the novelty has worn off so only really use it for notifications, time, pedometer and gps fitness tracking but that's still worth it for me. I feel Samsung isn't really supporting it with updates or the app store which really doesn't help

I pretty much knew Samsung would abandon things after a few months. It's their style , but I'm a bit disappointed at the development community not getting more involved but I also understand they're dealing with Samsung.
I found a new really cool feature this morning on mine. A map of my walk route on the watch itself along with the other stuff I'd already seen. The GPS was MUCH more accurate than my Note4 at elevation changes. I like adding notes into screen shots of S Health stats and maps on the phone to get a better idea of why my heart rate jumped up so much, why I was barely moving here or there, etc and having an actual track map on the watch itself is kinda cool. I was surprised at how quickly the GPS locked in, only about 10 seconds, after reading to expect it to take seemingly forever.
I also discovered Opera Mini supports wap browsing still for those dinosaur sites that still use it, again taking Mr back to feature phone days mentally. It's like having my old Dare phone again.

LOVE it I don't go a day without wearing it unless I don't leave the house... The only reason I don't wear it at home is because I don't wear ANY jewelry at home.

I have never worn a smartwatch everyday until I got this watch and this is my 6th. Got an extra charging cradle and all the bands I could find so I am ready to go EVERY SINGLE DAY!

I'm not sure which map you ask about but on the watch it's at the bottom of the exercise session, just scroll down to it.
The one on the phone I'll try to be as brief as possible and let the photos do the talking.
Open S Health, go to any exercise (walking, hiking, running, cycling) you see on the home page and tap it
uploadfromtaptalk1425421212975.jpg
Tap the bottom right corner to bring up the history
uploadfromtaptalk1425421343335.jpg
Choose which you want to see the map of and tap it uploadfromtaptalk1425421370937.jpg
Tap map in upper center
uploadfromtaptalk1425421451057.jpg
The map with route will show up. Pinch out to zoom out and from there I use the s pen to make screen shots that I notate things on.

I have a few maps that I kayaked (using hiking since there's no actual kayak) when wearing my Fit and wrote depths on them ,via screenshot, for fishing from the bank. I tied knots every foot apart on my anchor rope and dropped it to get approximate depths.uploadfromtaptalk1425421683916.jpg
Hope that helps

What I found today was when it's tethered to the phone and GPS isn't on on the watch it doesn't save a map of it on the watch.
Hope that helps.

At first I truly didn't think I'd keep the Gear S, but the more and more I use it the more I begin to realize that it certainly has a place in my day. Other than telling the time, I find it quite convenient to just glance at what ever notification is coming up than to take out the Note 4 and check it there. As far as using it as a phone, that too has it's place. I find it handy when I'm driving, working on something, or in a position where I just can't hold the phone. Answering text messages is flawless using the voice to text, and extremely handy while driving. As far as apps on the phone, my question is why? I'd like to see more watch faces, but I guess that'll come in time. Its good. Battery life is 2 days. It starts conversations! Like everything it'll evolve!

Ditto, got the Black, White, Gray one updated, should be here tomorrow, Red one will be here next month, ordering Blue one next week. I think I'm gonna buy a White bangle too. I wear only when going out. But it's on everyday. When I'm super tired, I sleep with it so the alarm will buzz me to wake.

I found that I didn't think I was using it as much as when I got it, until I left it at home while charging one day. I couldn't believe how much I missed it. I use it for everything!

Absofrequentlutely

Sent not from just an oversized phone but my Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Still thrilled with mine. Much happier than when I was trying to use a second small cell to get the same versatility. Better, since it automatically forwards calls in a sensible manner. Before, I was manually forwarding calls between the two phones as needed. And it's $15/month cheaper to boot. A better charger and a TiVo remote app are the only things I've noticed myself wishing for.

Well, my S just became less useful because S Voice conflicts with Google Now voice search in the lollipop update (it didn't with KitKat), so I had to disable it. Not much of a loss since S-VOICE is pretty useless anyway, but having to disable it does kill one of the watch's features.

Where are you seeing this? I run a Note 3 on Android 5.0 and see no conflicts with S-Voice and Google between the two.

In Settings for Google voice recognition. You can't change them until you disable S-Voice. Now that I've made my selections, though, I'm going to re-enable S voice and see if the Google settings stick.

Edit: the Google voice settings are greyed out again, and show that they're "off," but "Ok, Google" seems to be working from any screen still. Im sure that'll change the minute I have to reboot for any reason, but for now...

It would have been cool for Samsung to design the watch so the face rotates to landscape mode.

Got mine as a Christmas present. I've warn it daily since. I won't say it's perfect, but I have no major complaints and I really like it. I've used it as a watch, a timer, a news reader and Web browser -- yes, I've posted to FB with it, a pedometer, for email and texting, etc. It's freed me to go out for a walk without having to bring my cell phone. Oh, yeah...and people ask about it. That's cool.

Seems like that would be annoying...unless maybe it was only done manually.

Even with my phone if I'm laying down etc it often rotates when I don't want it too. On my wrist that might be often.

I am really contemplating picking this up since it has the one feature android wear does not and that is the ability to take the phone calls on the watch i seem to be one of few that care but if my hands are full or im working i do not have to stop grab my phone i can take the call and use speakerphone and that seems like a nice feature to me. like android wear is nice but so much of it has to be done on the phone if im buying a device just for notifications id stick with the pebble.

Still trying to debate if I want to keep mine. I'm still within my 14 day window. I actually reset it last night to take back to the store. I just didn't see a need for it when I can pull out my phone. I do see its uses and it is a cool factor (everyone asks what is that, new apple watch?). But other than that, not so sure it's for me. I'm trying to wait until day 13 to see if I want to return it.

Do you get a lot of texts and calls during the day? If so set up your S and phone so it'll remotely connect. Do something, like walk around the block for a little bit, where the phone and watch aren't connected. If you receive a call, text, email, etc while your phone is away from you, reply to it/answer the call and still don't see the benefit of having the S then is agree you should take it back. A smartwatch isn't for everyone and there's nothing wrong with it not fitting your lifestyle or desires. I actually use my S throughout the day more than my phone because of its ability to have standalone capability for notifications as well as a few standalone apps I use frequently that I used to pull out my phone for.
S Health, My Notes in Gear, Voice Memo, Calculator, Samsung Wallet, Music Player are a few of the type of app I no longer use my phone for. Instant Settings is one that keeps me from needing my phone to change my Wi-Fi, volume and data network settings on the phone anymore. I am in and out of tether range throughout the day and with the S setup to remotely connect I am in constant connection with it.
