Are you still happy with your Gear S?

Yes I get a fair amount of texts and calls. And yes I do see that it is more convenient than pulling out your phone in short instances, trying to justify the price for what I would use it for.

Does it work better in standalone mode? If I do want to place a call, I don't want it to show my S number but my primary number.

Discovered something is seriously inaccurate with S Health.

I left the phone that my Gear S is synced with which is my Note 4 and brought my Note Edge with me on Friday night. Both started out with 0 steps and by the end of the night, I walked 8325 according to the watch and the Note Edge says 4894.

I have no idea which one to even believe now.

What I would try is to maybe walk around a lake with both, looking at both and use that to gauge which is more accurate. Its not scientific but its something.

Under settings, connections, mobile networks, tap mobile networks, choose always on and calls/texts initiated from the watch will use the phones number. Seems kinda backward to me but that's how Samsung decided to work using the phones number only.

If you're a social media person, the Twitter and Instagram apps for the Gear S are nice. No, there's no Facebook app, but the Opera browser is great and you can easily access Facebook from there. I love my watch. It is so much more comfortable than my Gear 2, and though I don't use a lot of the standalone features/apps much, the incoming calls/texts feature even when not tethered is a nice plus. I agree Samsung has dropped the ball with apps big-time. The Apple watch will trump us in that category, but with no standalone feature, it's behind this particular piece of technology. Overall, I'm happy with it and I think it was worth what I paid for it.

Day 7 for me on GEAR S, and I have to say I love it.

My Wathc died last week and i knew sooner or later i would get a smart watch.... I have SGN4 and after reading the reviews and also on this forum i decided to get the gear s.

Don't regret it at all. I can't believe how handy it is. BT headphones and music on my wrist makes walking my dog so much fun. It sucked taking the big note 4 on a walk, now i don't have to.

If you always wore cheap watches then the $ tag will hurt you. but I always wore $1000 + watches and now i got one that was $00 but does so much more than just tell time. its a computer on my wrist.

All in all, screen set to 15s timeout, clock always on, auto dim, vibrate only, and i get 18 hrs of battery. I take it off every night so charging daily isn't a big deal. I'm a little worried about the cradle but will wait and see.

This is so true. The Apple watch even before it's out has some apps that I expected to see for the Gear S but we never will. I knew it would be this way just from reading how Apple requested that developers have their apps ready by a certain date. They are very smart and that watch will be successful. Try getting your hands on one before summer though.

I like my Gear S because it doesn't depend on my phone for everything. I can leave the phone at home and still get calls and texts from the phone on the watch. Can't do that on the Apple Watch. The Gear S still has far better benefits to me.

I applaud and envy your courage. I tried going w/out a screen protector in '13 with my Note 2. I discovered that sand/grit and my screen were not compatible to my liking.

What apps are y'all wanting? Is it just a numbers game to brag about a gazillion apps that on a tiny screen are useless or am I missing something? What will Apple have that is so mind boggling on a mini screen?

The only apps on my Note 3 that I have noticed myself missing on my Gear S are the TiVo app for it's remote control abilities, and the Samsung Calendar. I work rotating shifts and use the Monthly view on the Calendar to plan around my varying work days. The only options I've found on the Gear S so far are a monthly calendar that shows dates only, or the Schedule showing daily tasks for the coming week. I've been using a workaround with a photo of the monthly schedule in the Gear S Gallery. But I would prefer a miniature version of my phone's Calendar app which is easily updated, even if that syncing only happens when in BT range and is static when in remote or stand alone modes.

And although I've not experienced the need yet, I could see where having access to my Book and Movie Collection apps with their long lists of already owned items would come in handy when making new purchases. I have bought a few duplicates when shopping without my Note 3 and forgotten about a title I already owned. Bad for me, good for the charity donation pile.

I agree on the calendar but I use the one on Color Note for my work schedule. It would be nice if it incorporated into my watch beyond the notifications. To be honest I don't think my eyes could handle a full calendar on a 2"screen though or even a just weekly view.
A remote control. Interesting. I had a Casio watch years ago that had a built in remote. Didn't work with a flip due to limited capabilities but it was a cool idea.

The TiVo app sends the remote commands over wifi so it doesn't need the IR blaster like most remote apps, so it would be possible within the existing Gear S hardware. Although I have been surprised that Smartwatches don't typically have IR blasters. Basic TV remote capabilities would seem a natural use. But maybe I'm too much of a couch potato and my needs don't match the typical user.

I've had my Gear S for around two weeks now. I something like 50 apps installed. I use my Gear S everyday, and at night, I use the S Health Sleep Mode. I use thet Steps everyday, and have been amazed at how much I'm actually walking! I also use the Cycling Mode when riding around town. I use Milk, connect to either my Bluedio Bluetooth Headphones, or my LuguLake Bluetooth Speakers. Read the news, check Notifications, make phone calls, and even read ePUB books and PDF articles!!! I'd like to see a larger screen, like the Neptune 2.5-inch screen, and more memory .....

Not at all,it became very boring after less than a week,,nothing new,,seems like from its beginning there's no futur for the gear S,,battery life is weak(yesterday from 08pm to 08am in airplane mode killed 10% of battery :/ ),,few apps and not really usefull even the paid ones,,we cannot even add a task to the calendar from the watch.

I love it. It's like whiskey, the older it is the more it gives back.

Use it as a standalone when lugging my Note 4 around is impractical.
Play music via Bluetooth when working outside.
Answers calls when I am away from my phone.
Even send a text now and again.

Having had a Gear 2 I wish the S had remote control feature.

Also had a LG G Watch R for a little over a month. Android Wear is so far from a finished product I am amazed the even put it in a piece of hardware and charge money for it. The only customization you have is pretty much the watch face. And even that had to be watched like a hawk, or else my screen would be ruined by burn in. Google Voice is the only thing I miss. It runs circles around S Voice...

Soooo in conclusion I have tried the others, they suck, and I love my Gear S!
