Are you still impressed with the 3d or is it time for another device

Good question. I am thinking about changing EVO 3D to different phone. I know almost all phone have text, email, call, and apps but I'm only interested in front facing camera for face-to-face. Being Deaf, I would like to chat with people via Face to Face. I am worrying about new EVO 3D's low front camera 1.3 MP while back camera- 5 MP. Sound little fall back a bit to old ages. :( Samsung's Epic has both 5 MP. Darn. It's still better than EVO 3D? I don't know yet! Oh I know Epic has good video camera- 720p@30fps. I don't know what's EVO 3D's video camera look like. I don't care about 3D video or picture. I just want to know what fps or what p.

For now, I am stuck. Anyone help me what's EVO 3D better than other phone. I only have one phone I think of epic behind EVO 3D. :S

The Epic does not have a 5MP front-facing camera, it has a VGA-resolution camera on front.

1.3 MP should be sufficient, but it's probably best if you get to see it yourself when it releases. I haven't preordered my Evo 3D yet either.. Waiting to see it at the store in person first. The Galaxy S II has a 2 MP camera for front. I've been wanting the Galaxy S II for awhile... but no news yet, and it can possibly be released as late as late September.. I just gave up waiting for it. The Galaxy S III might be released before the II at this rate :(

As far as the video camera, I believe the 3D is 720P at 24 FPS.. I heard 30 and 24 FPS but I'm not certain on it.

AFAIK The Sensation's the only phone doing 1080p recording right now, and several reviews noted that it was jittery and dropped frames during fast motion (even under ample daylight)... Most of the other upcoming phones aren't doing 1080p either (i.e. SGS2, Photon, etc.). Personally, I'd rather have a smooth 720p than a jittery 1080p any day.

The EVO 4G's 720p recording wasn't the best so if they've improved it but dropped 1080p as a compromise I'll take it. It was just a bad PR move on Sprint/HTC's part to advertise 1080p and then drop it at the last minute tho (and if it was a PR mistake from the start, that's an even worse blunder).

As far as screen resolution... Nothing (or almost nothing) is stretched under qHD, this isn't like the iPad2 at all. Android API's were actually written with multiple resolutions in mind from the start, properly written apps (and the entirety of the OS) is just scaled accordingly. We've had odd-ball resolutions from the start, early Android devices weren't running 800x480, and Moto's often been doing a wider 854x480 with most of their devices.

Have you heard anyone complain that things look stretched on a Droid? Every one of those Moto devices (Droid, Droid 2, Droid X) runs at the same exact aspect ratio as any newer qHD device.

800/480 = 1.66 | 854/480 = 1.779 | 960/540 = 1.777 | 1920/1080 = 1.77

The SGS2 shoots full 1080HD

after all the wow factor has been dashed to pieces by these reviews lately, i'm still considering the Evo 3D. my wife and i have the original instinct and my daughter has the exclaim if i remember correctly. all garbage phones and i'm sure the evo would be a huge upgrade. Now if it wasn't for the 3d part. at least that is a bonus feature. i don't dig the stupid feature after playing with the 3DS. could care less. i just hope the call quality is clear and decent. battery life i'm sure is better than the instinct and it's dying out after 3 hours which i've tolerated for way too long. I want the SGS2 but samsung from my experience is horrid with updates plus the new galaxy within might not come out for awhile to switch to within the 30 day period if the evo does suck.

I have a feeling that a lot of people are thinking that the 3D is going to be similar to the 3DS. I've seen the 3DS and I didn't like it. But I have a feeling that the 3D on the EVO is going to be better. I'm still thinking that it will be a feature that I won't care for. But I think it will be better than what people think. It also seems to me that the 3D feature will be like the video chat feature a year ago. A lot of people said that they wouldn't use it, but over the last year it has become more and more popular. But only time will tell.

I saw that the SGS2 is going on sale in Canada within the month on Engadget... fingers crossed that we'll hear something here soon.

The reviews have me concerned... i won't lie.. But I am gong forward with it. I want back on Sprint's network (trapped on ATT now). I don't plan on using the 3d stuff, Hoping CM7 gets on to the device..

I would strongly consider a nexus s, but I hear that has radio issues as well.

Nope, I still plan on getting mine when it comes out on Friday. Call quality appears to be just fine. If you go to CNET, you can hear Bonnie Cha calling her voicemail using the Evo 3d. Doesn't sound bad. Also, the specs are still pretty darn good. #1 on the list at Best Buy. Plus, my Pre is on its last legs... I know I won't be disappointed.

You can already get it here if you have TMobile, just buy an unlocked one. I am seriously considering it but the Sensation has been pretty good so far when 4G works.

I am not impressed by the 3d feature anymore. AFter reading reviews, my expectations are low.

However, I am still buying this phone! I first off need an upgrade from the pre. No more epocrates means no more of my business. also, android can open office documents.

Now phone specific, HTC has sense, its super fast, and future proof for atleast a year. This is what's keeping me from waiting for the GS2 and photon. I belive all 3 phones wil be super fast and what not, but sense is clearly the superiour UI. Also, the camera as far as i can tell is really good. I dont care that its not like a dig camera, its better than the dig camera i have from 8 years ago, and those were pretty good.

Even with all the lukewarm to awful reviews out there, i think they focus too much on the 3d being dissapointing and what the 3d portion can't do and not enough on the actual device. I am going to focus on what it can do and that is provide an awesome end-user experience and latest technology to the consumer.

Only other phone I would consider right now is the SGS2 (not sure about the photon and Tegra 2 is eh). These are my concerns with EVO3D to SGS2

1- I need my next phone to have a nice camera - EVO 4g sucked relative to iPhone4
2- I need an improvement to battery life, though I'm kinda doing ok now
3- I like the slim form factor of the SGS2

Now if I EVO3D is drastically lacking and the SGS2 kicks its pants in all three points above (instead of just #3) then I may be returning during the 30 period for something else...we'll see. Don't get me wrong though, I am very aware of Sense 3.0, the speed and everything of which I'm very excited for in the E3D.

I considered that... only reason I didnt is because I really dont want to go back to tmobile. I love the idea of having GSM and being able to use whatever phone whenever but in comparison to Sprint their coverage wasnt as good. Sprint is pretty decent for me out here aside from the 3G issues but I have a VZW line also. So im just going to hope it hits Sprint or VZW pretty soon.

Agreed with you. This concerns me too. If I don't like 3D, I could trade for Epic for better choice or S2 coming soon either.

I expected the 3D wouldn't have significantly better battery life than the EVO, so if I get one I'd plan on carrying around extra batteries. And while the Evo 3D seems to have strong download and processing speeds, it doesn't seem to be at the forefront. Not sure how critical that is if the phone is still fairly snappy.

But the call quality and signal strength issues mentioned in several reviews have me concerned. I've been scouring the reviews and posts to get a clear read on the 3D's call quality and signal strength. Most reviews just touch on these issues with cursory "good" to "poor" ratings.

Has anyone seen a good evaluation of these issues? My sense is that we'll have to wait for buyers to actually use the phone for a period of time to get a more definitive verdict.

Unfortunately with the vast differences seen throughout even a 10 mile radius of coverage, reviews tend to prove meaningless when it comes to signal strength and call quality. Its definitely one of those "see for yourself/mileage may vary" occasions.

phone arena's review says it's better than the EVO in the call quality department
