Are you still impressed with the 3d or is it time for another device

Honestly, the SGS2 seems to be the better device. If I had a phone that didn't make me want to torch it (Samsung Transform), I'd be saving my upgrade for the SGS2...provided that Sprint doesn't change the design like they did with the Epic.

The 3D does not seem like a bad device. I'll probably love it. On the one hand, I rarely use my phone's camera so the lesser camera doesn't matter to me (much)...but on the other hand, if I'm going to be locked into a contract for 2 years, I want my phone to be the best.As for software, it's Android. There are tons of apps and things you can download to change the look of your device and add functionality that was not included out of the box. So, while I prefer Sense, it's also not a deal breaker. The SGS2 is just soooo thin and aesthetically pleasing...O:-)

As I see it, if I decide that I really don't like the 3D, I have 2 options:
1- Buy the Evo 3D and return it before the end of the 30-day period if the July release rumors are not true for the SGS2....and save my upgrade for when it is available.
2- Buy the Evo 3D and (keep it) then sell it when the SGS2 is released (and, of course, pay the difference).

/my 2 cents

The hardware in the 3D wont even be relevant until it gets ICS and apps are written to take advantage of the 2nd core(

This is FALSE. The Linux Kernel that Android is based on has built in support for multi-core processors ( SMP, Symmetric Multiprocessing) and multi-threading. Android currently has the built in functionality to see multiple cores and distribute threads accordingly making it run faster and more efficiently.

Ice Cream Sandwich is going to increase this functionality not enable it!!! It will add things like improved Garbage Collection.

Gingerbread fully supports SMP, Symmetric Multiprocessing allowing the OS to move tasks between threads on different processors to balance the workload. All task have access to the additional threads provided by the second core with each core having access to the shared memory.

Most Android Apps are Single Threaded but some apps spawn additional threads as needed. So right off the bat multi-tasking will be improved/expanded with the additional of a second core and more available Threads. Also, if all the threads are able to run at less than 100% utilization at any given time then CPU voltages will be able to run lower improving battery life.

The Core set of Android Applications are not very CPU intensive to begin with so I would not expect to see a huge improvement in things like SMS, Email and Calendar. The Browser and of course Maps are more CPU intensive and use multiple threads as well. Most benchmark tests show a marked improvement in various web performance tests including Java Script, Flash and page load times.

Of course when more apps that are dual-core optimized become available (read Games) that will be great. The enhancements that ICS will bring will be much appreciated but to say that current dual-core devices are NOT relevant until ICS becomes available on them is totally not true.

I'm a Pre user and REALLY need a new phone. The SGS2 I have heard from people in the know that it might not be out until September in the US ( :(

Too long for me to wait - and it'd REALLY suck to wait if Sprint only got one with a physical keyboard.

I hope you guys are right about the July date though.

I have to call Sprint, I'm using my override to buy my next phone. I'm not sure how long I have it for, some rumors were that it expired at the end of the month..

When I talked to a customer rep after the Gingerbread update she said I could get an update and it was good until the end of July. She sounded very vague about it though. I later called customer retention and asked how long the upgrade was for. She laughed and said it was permanent. I think some of the customer reps are just giving people the hustle.

Good to hear. I'm still up in the air..I call this EVO weekend. All i've been doing is watching videos and going over if i want to settle for the 3D or keep my pre for a few more months and see whats up with the GS2...

I would bet a large sum of money that the SGS2 will NOT release in July for Sprint. That whole July rumor was started by a Sprint store employee. There is a 4g Samsung phone releasing on 7/24, but its not the one everyone wants.

Not a huge Samsung fan myself but will definitely check out the Within, I'm all in for the EVO 3D!

after all the wow factor has been dashed to pieces by these reviews lately, i'm still considering the Evo 3D. my wife and i have the original instinct and my daughter has the exclaim if i remember correctly. all garbage phones and i'm sure the evo would be a huge upgrade. Now if it wasn't for the 3d part. at least that is a bonus feature. i don't dig the stupid feature after playing with the 3DS. could care less. i just hope the call quality is clear and decent. battery life i'm sure is better than the instinct and it's dying out after 3 hours which i've tolerated for way too long. I want the SGS2 but samsung from my experience is horrid with updates plus the new galaxy within might not come out for awhile to switch to within the 30 day period if the evo does suck.

Cancelled 3D going to SG S2

Just cancelled from Wirefly, only reason is that I only have one phone and from the reviews stating not the greatest in call quality. Otherwise seems like a good phone but I do also use it as a phone. Good luck to all getting the 3D. It is great that being on Sprint now we finally will have many choices of great phone.

I would never let a review dictate which phone I bought. It's all personal opinion. I'm the best reviewer for me. Good luck with the Sammy, you might be waiting a few more months though. I'll check that out once its released, if I like it better I'll just sell the 3d and buy the Sammy outright.

What sum of money we talking about? I want in.

I know it wasn't easy man, I've been pondering all weekend whether to cancel my Wirefly order. After reading the Phonescoop review again I think I'll like this phone for the following reasons:

1. I currently own a Palm Pre (nuff said)
2. I'm used to owning phones with poor battery life, but if it's improved over the Evo/Pre then i'm sold.
3. I don't make many phone calls, As long as voice calls (over bluetooth) aren't worse than the Pre
4. It's Better than the Evo in every way (thinner, lighter, slimmer, faster)
5. Universally lauded camera button.
6. 30 day(14?) Wirefly return policy
7. It's blazingly fast, there is no dispute about this, just over-shadowed by the 3D shortcomings
8. 3D can be ignored with no detriment to the rest of the user experience, good convo starter tho
9. I want/need a new phone and I don't want to wait for Samsung.

Reviewers tend to exaggerate, but if I can't conduct a phone interview with this phone then it's going back. if It can then I think I'll be very pleased.

Good luck with your search.

I have had the EVO 4G since launch last summer and have been stoked for the 3D, but now I'm going to wait for something else. It's just simply not a big enough upgrade for my tastes...not much more than a spec bump but adding some new concerns to the mix. I DO use my EVO camera a lot and was at least hoping for a good upgrade there. Just my 2 cents.

I can understand, but it is a pretty much one of the best phone specs wise. Almost everything is improved, doubled the ram, doubled the processor, higher res, better screen, sense 3.0, bigger battery. narrower design for easy grip, evo was way too wide for my hands, tried my friend's evo.

I gotta agree with everything on here, except I don't own a Pre. I'm keeping my pre-order.

The one thing I'll add is that this is a LOT of phone for $149. If there were some drastically cheaper options (like FREE) I'd be wavering.

Can't wait for Friday!

1. 4.3-inch 3D qHD capacitive 960 x 540 px display :)
2. 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor :)
3. Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) :)
4. Sense 3.0 :)

Enough said!

I cancelled my pre-order after reading a half dozen reviews that are generally mediocre. I am very, very disappointed that HTC can't figure out power management as well as the other major Android device manufacturers.

I see a lot of people harping on about quadrant scores and the fact the phone is Gingerbread but none of these things determine whether a phone is good or not.

I'm still getting rid of AT&T and my iPhone but I'm going to Verizon and their Samsung Droid Charge which is the only 4g phone on the US market that doesn't have crap battery life.

Could I ask what reviews you read? The only bad reviews I've seen/read are the Gizmodo and Engadget reviews. All other reviews I've seen/read were either good or great.:D

I have a Palm Pre I need a new phone.
The Evo 3D is fast
The 3D part may be a little buggy but not necessary for the overall experience.
And I can always return it before 30 days if i don't like it.
So of course I'm still getting it.
