Are you still using the Gear S?

I rock it everyday with my stainless steel band from LPX Studios my Note edge and Gear Circle. Love it.

Been wearing mine every day since February.
Would I buy it again? Yes because I don't like Google Now so I don't want the ui of Android Wear watches . Still the biggest screen available. Still the best battery life for watches with more than just Bluetooth radios. Still the only one with a built in phone capability. Still the only one that's truly standalone capable. It's still the only one that includes a battery in its charging cradle. I'm going to be paying for my Note4 for quite a few more months so I'm fine with needing a Samsung phone to use it to its full capacity.
I use many apps that are standalone every day, some can partner with the phone while others are watch only . I charge my watch every other day whether it needs it or not but most days it's down to about 20% at the end of day 2 .
The only cons for me are a lack of computing power. I'd like it to have a built in copy/paste ability instead of app dependent. I'd like it to be snappier when opening pdf files. I'd like to be able to play videos from my gallery at higher resolution so I don't have to edit videos on my phone before copying to my watch. It's a first generation so who knows what next years will be capable of.

How do you get 2 days out of it? I'm at 25 hours right now and 10% battery, minimal use.

Yes
No apps you asked
No play store capability. It uses Samsung Gear Store that has to be done via a Samsung phone that is connected via the Gear Manager app.
Mobile data is under connections but you need a data plan to use it.
Without a Samsung phone you won't be able to use all the features.

You can use the Gear S without connecting it to a smartphone BUT you need a Galaxy phone for the INITIAL setup process and to install apps. But once it is setup, you don't have to have it paired to a phone. The Gear S has its own SIM card with its own phone number and data plan which costs about $10 USD per month.

Those apps are not available. We do have a Twitter client and a Instagram client though. I access Facebook thru the Opera Mini browser and it works perfectly.

There is mobile data on the phone along with WIFI. The carriers charge about $10 USD per month for the smartwatch phone line and data. I can leave my Galaxy phone at home and use my Gear S standalone and access the internet just fine. In my area, my Gear S has 4G connection.

You can do the initial set up without a galaxy phone. To install apps you need a galaxy phone. Check youtube there are plenty of videos that will show you how to set it up without a samsung phone.

How are results of just popping your simcard in the S and going? There's a few good refurbished offers out there that I've been considering...

There's a thread in this section where a user used their S exclusively without a phone for a few months. You might find his results interesting and helpful.

I bought a used AT&T model and popped a T mobile chip in. After tax, $18/mo and it works great (except for the bad signal where I live).

2 weeks now that I've owned this device. I've found that I use it more and more, and the battery life is able to get me through an entire day consistently, but not more than that.

I have a gear fit, gear 2 neo, gear s, and Gear live. None are nearly as good as the Gear S. Can't wait for the next model.

Cool...I've always considered leaving my phone at home and putting that simcard in the S

I've had a Gear S since January and wear it every day. I like it, mainly because I don't have to carry my phone all the time and not miss a call or important notification or message. However, I believe Samsung has made two major mistakes, especially concerning the American market: making the Gear S use Tizen rather Android; and going for style rather than usability with the Note line by getting rid of the user changeable battery and the microSD options. The full features of the Gear S are only available with the S6 line and the Notes. So, when I decide to get rid of my Note 4 for another manufacturer's phone (either Motorola or LG), I'll also be getting rid of my Gear S and going to Android Wear. Too bad. The Gear S is a great smart watch.

When released AW wasn't ready for what the S can do. It's only had Wi-Fi usability for a short time and still doesn't have 4g or phone call ability, thus the LG Urbane LTE is also not using Android Wear while the regular Urbane does.
As far as the no removable stuff of the newer phones, there will be other factors much more important to the average sheeple than that affecting future sales.
Put Power Clock on my watch earlier this week. I feel like I got a new watch to play with. It's a real hoot to use

What on the Gear S only works with the S6? I have a Note 4 and don't know what I'm unable to use.

I like Android Wear notifications better, but I LOVE my Gear S's ability to make calls and texts either via BT or with its cell chip. Also, I get 2 full days (with sleep tracking) on my Gear S quite often, but Gear Live/motor 360 gave me less than 1.

Note 5 - at first I was sad about the micro SD card and nonremovable battery, but then I realized I can be just fine with a 64GB Note 5 w fast charge.
