After 24 years of having 5 lines with verizon wireless, I started to get frustrated at the lies and deciet they started throwing at me. They tell you one thing, but another happens, and your bill is larger than before. Typical bait & switch. So i started reading about other carriers and decided to try Googles project fi. Even though I have an S7 EDGE with verizon, I bought a nexus 5x and ordered the minimum 1 gig of data from fi. Well im a month in, and so far, its been terrific. For $30.00 month, you get unlimited talk & text plus 1 gig of data. Now the way fi works is that it'll put you on the strongest signal whether it be T-mobile, sprint, US cellular, or wifi. And you never get interrupted even if you're on a call and fi changes. The best thing is that if you are in a good wifi Hotspot, you get connected to it and Google automatically encrypts so no one can hack you. I've used about half a gig so I'll get a $5.00 credit towads next month's bill. If you go over , they add a gig without interruption and you pay for only what you use. Now you must have a Google device, but this 5x is just as fast as my S7 EDGE. And the new pixel phones coming in October are supposed to be the very fastest. You can even add a "data only" sim to another device that runs off of your main account without any extra monthly fee. See if you can get verizon to do that. Give fi a try.

I looked at it. If you don't use a lot of data it is a compelling service. If you actual more then a couple gigs of data other services there are better economical plans.

Google's Project Fi looks very good to me. It would be a good value for me. Unfortunately I am under contract for another year. Probably be a new Nexus phone out by then (smile). I typically use about 1 GB a month on average but some months, like July, I used 3 GM I would probably opt for the 1 GB of data and then let it adjust as needed. I would like using a Nexus phone without all the bloat, pure Android. I had a Nexus phone before and loved it.

I've dropped everything Verizon due to their bs so won't look back. Right now pretty happy with att but if I left it would def be for Fi. Looks like a good service and the price is right

Fi is definitely a nice idea but if you're a high data user it's very expensive. I can't use them due to this reason... But definitely is awesome for lower data users.

Dont forget 1 important thing. Fi will put you on open wifi when applicable. I was in a library and restaurant that had free WiFi hotspots. Fi hooked up to both so you're not using your data. And Google encrypts everything you're doing. Ive been on fi for 2 weeks and used only point 8 gigs.

Mod note: Updated thread title to be more clear.

True but I use my most data at work which has no wifi so it wouldn't help me.

Yeah, I use my data mainly in places that do not have WiFi. I am still on a unlimited plan and really don't pay attention. I will tether 2 tablets on a long car ride and let my kids watch Netflix or Plex.

Checked this out and thought it sounded good before I realized the two cell service providers are Sprint and T-Mobile. To many places in my travels would be without coverage. Once out of town T-mo drops out and Sprint is not at all reliable for coverage. Does anyone know if Sprint would allow roaming to Verizon when utilizing Project Fi? I like having coverage in the mountainous boonies I frequent, needing Verizon for this. Not knocking Fi at all, just not for me yet.

Probably won't make a difference but they added US Cellular as a third carrier.

Completely agree Synycalwon. I don't work for Verizon and don't know anyone who does. I've been with them before they were Verizon (Primeco in Florida) and have never had one service or billing problem. I can't count the number of times I've been out with others such as when we had our boat on the gulf of Mexico or just in remote areas and Verizon phones were the only ones that had service. I watch the data plans and prices they offer weekly and have been able to increase my data allowance many times without increasing my bill, and many times decreasing it. Because of that, I too never worry about Wi-Fi as I always have LTE. Getting a 15 percent discount because of where I work helps too. If I had to come up with one gripe I wish Verizon was quicker with updates. My less than 2 year old droid turbo is still on lollipop.

I love VZW. There have been multiple times where other carriers do not have service and I'm on Netflix with LTE. Or streaming music from Pandora.

I stated lies and deciet because I've been buying new devices, and told my service would not change and my monthly bill would not go up. I pay cadh for my phones. But still, in my vety next bill, its up abou 20.00. That happens evey Time I upgrade. And im not tapking about the activation fee. Im referring to a petmanent fee. When I call to question its always "well, you got a new contract" . To ehich i say "no, I got a new phone, not conteact" . But hey, im not alone here. Thats why im tryong fi. So far, excellent.

That's usually their upgrade fee.

Yup . Verizon charges the $20 upgrade fee if you order at full retail in stores. Tmobile does similar though at least for tmobile, you can order online to avoid the charge

Yeah but this guy is saying it's up $20 monthly.

Weird.

That would be a first I have heard of it. Unless he was on some older plan that I can't remember that had various line access fees. I know in the past if you had a phone under contract or payment plan they would raise the line cost. That is the only thing I can think of.

Yup. Started with the More Everything plans and continues to the current plans depending on how you bought the phone. It's all in the fine print though.
