Ask me about T-Mobile's new 'Simple Choice' rate plans!

Perhaps in La La land or in T-Mobile fanboy dreams. I travel the country and was on EDGE almost all of the time. Their 4G was found only in the largest cities and even then there were substantial pockets of EDGE in those cities. There is no way they are covering 220 million people; there are only 300 million in the country and that would mean they're covering 73% of the population, which is not true. But this is the same company who had to stop advertising they had the nation's largest 4G network and who recently had a cease and desist settlement regarding their misleading so called non contract plans. If you check with the BBB not only do you find they have an F rating, but the vast majority of complaints filed against the company come from their misrepresentation of a number of things, the biggest of which is coverage and their mythical 4G network.

Wow, 4G was only found in the largest cities...you know..where most people live. How horrible. That being said, all carriers still have pockets of slower service. When you have literally hundreds of thousands of towers spread out over thousands of miles, it takes awhile to get to all of them.

For 2G only across most of the network. In the refarmed areas you'll get HSPA+. The LTE is wrong for T-Mobile too.

Re: coverage... we bought a Nexus 4 and activated a T-Mobile account Plus we kept the Vz phones, for now, just so we could compare performance and coverage... as we traveled all around the SW US. There is no doubt that Vz has much better coverage, especially any time you aren't in a metro area. Often we could have made a phone call in an emergency but no data whatsoever whereas Vz had at least a 3g data service if they had service and that was amazingly often, even in remote National Parks. OTOH you pay big bucks... like 2's more for less minutes and way less data. If you are using Google maps to navigate it can be a big problem with Tmob. Also had to reboot yes SIM card several times to even get service. We will probably keep one Vz phone and one Tmob which saves about $600-$800/yr compared to 2 Vz phones. BTW, it is so sad, IMHO, the US could have a really great cell phone system if the corporate giants would cooperate on the networks and compete on service, but, no... max profit comes ahead of a great cellular communications system for the whole country.

If I joined T-Mobile and then after a few months decided I liked my other carrier better and dropped my T-Mobile plan would I have to return the phone and make no more payments or would I have to pay off the phone and get to keep it?

You would have to pay off the phone. You won't even have a EIP payment plan, because that's just a perk for customers. When/if you leave, you'll owe the entire remaining balance on the phone.

You do get to keep the phone, though.

my question relates to t-mobile plans in general
i'm going to be out of the country during winter break (1 month) and summer (3 months), if i don't pay my monthly bill will my t-mobile service be unactive?
my plan is: "$40 Simply Prepaid (3GB 4G LTE) WC"
