Ask Phil about the EVO 3D

Gorilla glass for the LCD... the camera is covered by plastic... I'm sure companies like Zagg will make screen protectors for the camera lenses...

Ryu!.... I know I've seen that name somewhere....... I just can't quite put my finger on it................................

Evo 4g, something. Idk. WHo cares:cool:

Hey Phil,

Here's a couple of questions that I noticed hadn't been asked yet...

Has the front camera been used for pics and/or video, and which apps for video on it seem to work the best?

Also, does this stock version of Gingerbread on the 3D support the new Gchat Video, or possibly have to wait for an update to 2.3.4?

Thanks!

The stock version of GB, 2.3.3, does not support the Google Chat video. There has not been any word of updating to 2.3.4.

Hey Phil,

Does the compass work correctly on the EVO 3D? Also, does the 3D support landscape mode in the launcher home screens?

Compass seems just fine to me.

A word on the 3D capabilities: It's not like the display does 3D all the time or anything. And that's not what the toggle switch does. The toggle switch is only for the camera app. And the only time you'll see something on the screen in 3D is when you're looking at 3D content -- an app, picture or video. The launcher and rest of the OS is NOT in 3D.

How do you think the qHD SLCD screen compares to the Nexus S 4G's SAMOLED screen? I'm torn between these two devices and it's mostly boiling down to the screen for me.

Thank you!

That's a pretty subjective thing. For me, personally, I'd never turn down an otherwise great phone because it didn't have one display type over another. As far as the EVO 3D's screen goes, I think I'd be plenty happy with it. And ask yourself whether you'd rather have qHD resolution, or Super AMOLED.

Can you compare the battery of the HTC Sensation and the HTC Evo 3D? Could you theoretically fit the E3Ds battery into the Sensation?

Don't tell HTC I just did this, but they are interchangeable. They don't look like it at first. But flip the EVO 3D battery around to the right orientation, and it fits in the Sensation just fine. (And vice-versa.)

It does? Damn, why am I even considering this phone anymore? Is it because I owned the Instinct and would be a fool to buy another Samsung? :)

By the way, isn't your real question... "Will the Evo3D play full bluray rip MKV bit torrents that I download without me having to compress them in another program first?"

Help will freeze over before I buy a Samsung product again.

Pick up any Samsung phone other than the Nexus S/S 4G and try using the haptic feedback buttons. My wife's phone is rooted and runs an EXT4 ROM and they STILL aren't very responsive. I will never buy a Samsung phone until:

1) They fix their haptic feedback issues
2) They use hard buttons
3) Ice Cream Sandwich comes along and removes the need for buttons entirely

Sorry to hijack the thread, but you can assume my question to be: Are the haptic feedback buttons as responsive as they are with the EVO 4G?
Umm... are you kidding me??? "Barely" more than the Evo? "wont last more than a few days, if that"

Yaa... youre way off dude. First of all considering most apps are only about 5mb's, 1+GB is MORE than enough. Secondly, I have my Evo's SD card partitioned with 1GB. I use the DarkTremor A2SD where basically the ENTIRE app goes to the SD card. I currently have 121 apps and I still have just over 700MBs.. So ya.. thats PLENTY of space.
Let me clarify: first off, I run Cyanogen, so the room on my EVO's internal memory is around 430MB. However, I did make the mistake that I was comparing the 4G's spec'd 1GB vs. the ACTUAL on the 3D. As for my "few days" comment, I meant cleaning out the cache. It's going to fill back up after a few days, so unless you plan to clean it every couple of days, it's going to fill back up.

Just my humble opinion: Super AMOLED screens are roughly 5x - 10x more visible in direct sunlight than any LCD-based phone I have ever seen. So, if someone uses their phone outside a lot, it would make a very large difference. My wife's Epic is FAR brighter in direct sunlight at 50% than my EVO is at 100% brightness. PPI is a stupid, Apple marketing statistic that basically has almost no real benefit to the end user. Text is more legible at smaller sizes... big deal. Text is only ever a reverse-pinch away from being bigger.

I've read in multiple reviews that the voice quality in both the ear speaker, speaker, is below par and sounds bad. What I haven't read, is how the sound compares with the original EVO.
I also read that it dropped calls frequently. I am also interested in how this compares with the EVO. I have an EVO, and I'm debating on upgrading to the 3D, but these reviews have me leary, and debating on holding off to see how the MOTOROLA Photon compares when it is released.
Any input from you would be considered very welcome.

PPI is stupid marketing says who? Who wants to see blocks in their text? Is HD a marketing gimmick when compared to TVs of old and the fact that you can see so much more detail now? Why do you think E-ink is so popular on e-reading devices like the Kindle? Clarity -that?s why. Keep the neon colors and give me sharpness and clarity - oh and btw give me natural and realistic colors too. I will never buy an I phone (knocks on wooden desk) but the Iphone-4 has by far the best screen I have ever seen on a mobile device - and it?s not even close. I dream about having a 4.3 screen with that level of detail and clarity. I am not the least bit concerned about trying to read anything in sunlight as that almost never happens except to dial a number and I can see perfectly well.
