Ask Phil about the EVO 3D

Watch the unboxing, as Phil mentioned earlier. It showed slightly over 1.0GB available (barely more than the EVO) with an interesting utility to - apparently - clear the cache for more space, though that won't last more than a few days, if that.

I dont know what you mean but my phone is around 300megs with the gingerbread update so 1GiG is 3x more internal memory. With all my apps I'm around 50-60 megs left and have to clear stuff so remove the storage space icon...with this it sounds like I iwll have 700megs free which is HUGE!

I do wish it was on other levels of android phones which have 8-16gigs internal

Naive question time. Is the unboxing video the same as the hands on? If not can somebody link me the unboxing ?

How much internal memory is left on the phone after unboxing? 1-2gigs? I hate the low memory issue with the EVO

I'm rather disappointed that out of 4GB of internal flash memory only 1.08GB is left available out of the box. There is no way that anyone can convince me that Sense 3.0 takes up 3GB of space by itself. An entire installation of bloated Windows Vista doesn't take up that much room. There must be something else installed in that space (or they've partitioned only that much for app installations).

Maybe Green Hornet 3D is taking up the space. I thought it had been reported that Green Hornet 3D was going to come pre-installed on the SD card. Maybe they installed it on the internal 4GB flash memory instead. If so, that will be one of the first things I delete/move if possible.

Phil,
How is browsing perfomance? Does it stutter from time to time or is it consistently smooth? How is scrolling with flash on?

Thats a Sprint phone for you, lots of bloatware. Just one of the reasons I got the Nexus S and I still have 14GB of internal storage :) I thought everyone buying a 3D was getting big memory cards anyways and saying they dont care about internal storage?

I don't do "unboxings." :p
sorry phil I posted that ? and immediately realised how dumb it was. Thanks for the thorough review you've done so far. Seeing it in action calms alot of things. I will be very interested to see what you have to say about the call quality/camera once you get a chance to thoroughly use the 3d

Your generalizations aside about what "everyone" is doing, the original EVO didn't have 4GB of internal storage, yet there is still 300MB free out of the box. I saw nothing in the 3D's app drawer that I don't have pre-installed on my EVO, except the Green Hornet movie, so my assumption is that the movie is the culprit, but it would be nice to get a confirmation from Phil.

Sprint bloat is only a fraction of Verizon bloat. Obviously, people care about internal storage. The Thunderbolt suffers a similar issue with the internal available storage being a fraction of what was advertised. I don't think Sense sucks it all up. That just doesn't make, um, sense. It is possible that they're leaving space for updates. If companies are anticipating a massive amount of space needed for future OS upgrades, maybe they're setting it aside.
Either way, they need to start advertising Total Storage and User Available Storage on all these devices so we know.

Also, I remember at Google I/O something was said about Google working with the carriers to enable a way to take the bloat off or at least reduce it. There really is zero reason I need the Nova demo on my EVO 4G sucking up space.

Seems just fine to me. Your connection will affect it as much as anything.

Note: The one I have came with Flash 10.2. Had to dl 10.3.

Phil,

What do you think of the two cameras that protrude out from the back of the phone? More/less/same as the Evo 4G? And any risk of them getting scratched up? Gorilla glass?

Phil the burning questions :)

1. Call quality.
2. 2d picture quality- coming from a pre I love what I have seen in low light, but can't say the same about the ones in harsh sun light :( can you confirm.

Hey Phil,

I was wondering if the phone is capable of .mkv playback, particularly hd video, and how it might look. Would be great if you could try out a movie trailer or something (samsung gsii plays mkv natively I believe).

Two questions Phil:

1 why are you so awesome? /brown nosing

2 is the camera/video quality worse-equal-better than iphone4? I'm am evo owner but man...apple did well there. Lower-average light is important here as sunny outdoors is always good

Couple of questions that will have to wait for answers for a couple days ...

1. How's the call quality?
2. How's the data speed/signal?
3. How's the camera?

We're in the early stages here, folks. :p
