Ask us about the Verizon Droid Incredible

Will the Incredible be able to view and/or edit word documents, excel sheets, pdf's etc??

yes, the basic functionality should be included in the quick office app that htc provides on the phone.

i doubt you'll be able to edit pdf's though, but view yes.

Dawn I'm fairly sure he's mistaken. I've used an Eris and that device is just soooo much smaller than the incredible. Just look at pictures of an Eris next to a phone which is similar to the incredible like the Moto Droid. The batter in the Incredible is pretty big and I just can't imagine that it will fit in the Incredible. If I remember correctly your question was in regards to a 1350 battery which is a fairly insignificant upgrade anyway. You'd be best off just getting a 1600 for the Inc. when they come out.

Well, kind of. My original question was would the 1750 mAh battery I bought for my Eris fit in the Incredible? Both the Eris and the Incredible come with a 1300, so I guess I was HOPING they would be interchangeable.

Do you not have an Eris battery that you can test it to confirm?

I wouldn't count on this. If it did fit they would probably have made it available as an accessory when people pre ordered.

If this has Been asked already, I apologize. Will the incredible allow you to use it as a wifi hot spot? If so, is there an additional expense per month? After five years I am finally going to get a phone other than a blackberry. I'm pretty excited!

Not natively. You will likely need to root your phone and install a 3rd party app to do this.

No wi-fi N support

It actually does support N.

Two question and things short of keeping me from jumping on Verizon's site and throwing down the card.

1) For those that have received their phones early or anyone else comment just how "plasticky" the incredible feels.

It seems some of the reviewers were more bothered than others on this. Admittedly everyone says the build quality is there, just the lack of metal or cheapness is what is keeping me at bay. For a phone of this price, I sure hope it's solid.

2) Can anyone confirm there are no metal charging pins ANYWHERE on the side of the phone? I absolutely LOVE the dock for my BB Bold 9000 I'm currently using. I was hoping to be able to just drop the phone in a dock to charge. Not to mention MicroUSBs will wear out which is why I hate having to plug in/out the charger all the time.

Exchange Active Sync

I've seen reviews mention that Exchange Active Sync is fully supported to allow remote wipe of the Droid Incredible phone, but my IT department still will not support the device unless they have valid confirmation that it really works. I've tried emailing HTC tech support to get an official response but not sure where else to turn. It would be nice to read an article where remote wipe was successful and/or further confirmation from this site that remote wipe without running any third party software works. Otherwise, I'm stuck with my current Blackberry on Verizon.

I did get a response back from HTC support. My question was stated as "My IT department won't approve the use of the Verizon Droid Incredible phone without verification that remote wipe is supported through Microsoft Exchange Active Sync. Can you confirm that remote wipe is possible through Exchange Active Sync for the Verizon Droid Incredible."

The reply answer was given as "The HTC Incredible does not include full security support - its hit or miss. We have tested remote wipe on various devices, including the HTC Hero and Droid Eris. Some devices will wipe while others won't. This is due to the lacking full security support on the Incredible. You may order the device and see if it can be remotely wiped by your server. If not, Verizon Wireless does offer a 30 day return policy on their devices. I would check with them for details."

On the surface, it seems like there won't be any better Exchange Active Sync support on the Incredible based on the reply. Now why their own people don't know what is or isn't supported on their phone still baffles me. I just can't see a lot of us that can choose our corporate phone want to go through the hassle of buying the phone and have their IT department "just try it out and see if it works".

I hate to recommend a third party app for something that should just already work, but Touch Down does allow for remote wipe. I just logged into our exchage server and double checked it since I remembered reading that somewhere. I've been using Touch Down since I got my Moto Droid and it's great. But I would like to be able to use a native app.

Does the native HTC Exchange support allow syncing of folders? Does it allow you to move emails from your inbox to another folder?

Unnecessary browser window refresh?

Does the browser still perform a refresh when you switch to an existing browser window? Per complaints in the Google Mobile Help Forum []Android Cupcake browser windows / workflow problems - Google Mobile Help, if I load a page on one browser window, go to another while the first is loading, then go back to the first: even though the page has been fully loaded, the browser does an automatic refresh. Besides wasting time when switching windows for comparison or reference, if no signal is present when the refresh occurs, existing GOOD content is replaced with a blank screen. Kinda makes multiple browser windows pretty useless!

I can find no reference that suggests that this is fixed in 2.1. I am just hoping the good folks at HTC fixed it here.

Like a couple others, I would like to know if the Incredible can handle 32gb card. I have read various answers to this question and would like to see an answer from an official source. Thanks!

With the different "scenes" set up, can you customize the ringtones and sound profiles or just the visual makeup? i.e. can I have different ringtones and message notification profiles for "work" "social" "play" and "travel" in the same way I can change the appearance of the Ul?

Will the push available be configurable so if I don't want emails from a certain address pushed to my phone (talking gmail here) it can be done?

I would like to see more info on touchscreen performance (supposedly the Atmel mXT224).

I've noticed touchscreen performance on Android is far, far less responsive (especially in latency) than an iPhone. I'm not bashing Android, I'm just stating what I see as a fact and something that needs to improve. That's based on my experience with a Google ION / MyTouch 3g (ugh) and a Droid (a bit better).

After watching Atmel's MaxTouch videos, I have the following questions:

- How does it fare in a DIY Touchscreen Analysis?
(The maXTouch chips scan the touch sensor much faster, which means they can put in more touch resolution without affecting performance / latency, so I'm hoping it does very well)

- Can you use gloves? And Fingernails?
(This is an advertised benefit of the maXTouch chips, and would be very cool!)

- Does the stock Android keyboard seem to function better? (I'm hoping increased accuracy, decreased latency, and a better CPU help a LOT. Its a bit unbearable on my Google ION. The iPhone is literally like 10x better to type on, IMHO. I'm hoping this new sensor puts an end to that.

I think they will be. If you look online for pictures of both you'll see that they are very similar in shape and size. The contacts for the battery fit in the same place and they both have 3.7V with 4.81Whr. That means you won't blow up your shiny new toy if you put the other battery in the Incredible.

I have a 1750 mAH from Seidio on the way and the Incredible coming next Thursday. If no one can answer the question by then, I'll let you know how my experience goes. I can't stand GIANT extended battery covers!
