Assistant Voice Typing Greyed Out

For a few days now the assistant voice typing has been greyed out. I've done all the normal things. Clear cache, data, etc. Restarted. Made sure the languages matched, etc. In case you aren't familiar, when I press the microphone icon, as opposed to it flashing all the fun google colors, it just looks like the plain mic. It still works...and honestly, its probably better. The new assistant typing kept putting in periods in the middle of sentences and seems to work much worse at understanding words. Regardless, i'd still like the option. Any ideas?

Does this happen in any app field or is your experience in only one app such as texting?

The assistant voice typing is associated with Gboard. So any text input field shows the keyboard and when I click the gear icon, the assistant voice typing is greyed out and says is not available right now. Regular voice typing still works. I've tried all the obvious things, restarting, clearing data, removing assistant, removing Gboard, reinstalling all.

If the app you are using is the default Google Texting app, then the field already has a small gray microphone icon. If you choose that icon, you don't get the Gboard. If you tap the field first, then you get Gboard with the colorful microphone icon and the Gboard voice typing. I don't know how many other apps work the same way.

I know how it works. It's been working fine for months, only recently is it unavailable and greyed out.
