asurion update

Now if you had bought it at Best Buy and got their insurance instead they offer brand new phones as replacements and no deductible to be paid.

If you take it in to Best Buy, they will first attempt to "fix" your phone. This can take several weeks, and I've seen many people complain that Best Buy has had their phone for well over a month. Also, in the Interim, they give a a POS flip phone.

If they cannot "fix" your phone, THEN they will exchange it for a new one.

OP, did you have to pay a deductible with Asurion?

Yes. $100. You can pay with a credit card or have it billed to your Sprint account (depending on your spending limit). And they want whatever is left of the broke phone back or they will charge up to $500. So I had to run in the middle of a four lane street to get the screen, main body, and battery.

The actual claim process was easy (I did it online). Later today I will see what condition the replacement is in (refurb or new) and will post on this thread.

Did ##786# and under refurbished status it says unavailable! So I got a brand new EVO from asurion!

I just went through the Best Buy process, and couldn't be happier. After a co-worker did a number to my Evo, I took it into the Geek Squad. The bad news was that, contrary to what any salesman may have said, you do NOT get a new phone on the spot. It goes to the repair center. All told, I was given a new Evo less than two weeks after I turned my broken one in when the repair center determined it wasn't cost-effective to fix my broken one.

I think it depends on how badly damaged your phone is. If the screen (down to the digitizer) is cracked, you're getting a new one and it shouldn't take too long. If it's some other damage that isn't too severe and can be repaired, it will probably take longer. Having read some of the "over a month" horror stories, I was anxious that I would be in for such a long wait, but I wasn't. Nice thing was, you get to keep your micro SD card and charger; that's worth $20-$40 depending on where you could buy them? When they give you a new phone, you get the whole kit.

The worst thing about the whole process is Best Buy's crappy update system...pretty worthless and not timely, so you're always guessing what's being done to your phone.

So why not smash your phone in to make sure it's unrepaiable,,,,, LOL

I don't know why you went and did this... Asurion charges a $100 deductible if the phone is lost/stolen. There was certainly no need to RISK BODILY HARM just to recover the shattered remains of a phone in the middle of a street.
Especially since you were paying the deductible anyway, oh should have said you can't recover it. They wouldn't have charged you "up to $500"

Asurion sent me a brand new EVO in the box (so they do send NEW EVO's). I got my wife's Pre replaced with a Samsung Moment. I had to file complaints with the BBB and California State Attorney Generals office. You would be surprised how fast you get excellent customer service when you do this. I had an Executive Member call me and I explained what was going on, she then called the nearest Sprint Corp. store to talk with the Manager. The manager then called me and said and said she had a Samsung Moment waiting for me. I went to the store, asked for the Manager and she had me in and out of the crowded store within 20 minutes with a new phone.

I had already said it was damaged and couldn't go back in the claim process and change it. LOL i didn't think ahead when I did it. Luckily it was night time so the road wasn't too busy. It wasn't a highway or anything, just a main through road in the little city I live in.

I decided to go ahead and order the replacement for my cracked screen. Ordered Friday, received Monday. I was thrilled that it did not say refurb on the box. There was a crack down the left side, so I started looking closer. Inside the phone, where you put the battery was a sticker that said "refurbished". I called Asurion because I don't want a cracked phone. She said they will send me another one, but now they are on backorder. I hafta hope (fingers crossed) that means they will send a new one.
