Hell yeah, it's about time. No more sideload, woohoo! :D

This is great news, as I was about to root my wife's Inspire just so she could have Swype. Now Im just going to wait and see what happens. Thanks for sharing! :D

I work for AT&T. It seems like it will not be all at once.. sort of like the hsupa update.. roll out over a few days/weeks. I havent heard anything more on it.

What does this mean for the newbies like myself that recently rooted and flashed a gingerbread or other custom rom on the device? I know on iphone I can choose whether I want to update or not. Do I have the same option with Android?

This is great....I was very close to rooting. This update will make my stock Inspire even better. Now the only feature that'll be missing is the ability to take screenshots (without rooting).

I wonder if they will focus one one device first such as the atrix or inspire then the other or just roll out for both devices over time together.

Now this begs the question, should I delete all the apps I sideloaded and download them normally? The main reason to do it would be to make updating the apps easier. Or will the sideloaded apps be able to be updated normally?

We shall see when we get the update. I don't think there would be a problem updating apps. If there is, luckily with the Amazon Appstore, it shouldn't too much of a problem if we have to delete the apps and redownload the apps.

The roll outs should start tomorrow and continue over for the next week or so just like the HSPA updates did.

if you've rooted you already have sideloading enabled. just go to settings> applications >check unknown sources, but on android you usually have to be on full stock with out root to do system updated but if your running custom ROM's it probably dosent matter about those updates , but on android you have complete control wether or not you want to update but if you are on stock and you go to system updates and their is one then it will continuously nag you about it until you update so don;t unless you really want to
