AT&T and the Nexus One

I just can't wait for the N1 to get to Verizon.

Although my biggest wish is that AT&T was good here in Columbus, and I could rotate between the iPhone & the N1 -- now that would HEAVEN. A place Jeremy looks to be going - lol

I honestly don't think the wait will be much longer. That's just my opinion though.

This is one of the best threads I've seen about the N1. I'm ordering mine in two weeks, and I can't wait. I'm on AT&T, and still in contract, so this is a great way for me to get an Android phone and let my contract expire, then decide what to do. I was planning on waiting until this summer and then paying the "early upgrade" price for the new iphone (which that price is still a joke), but this phone is too hard to pass up! I'm driving myself crazy by looking at all the websites and info that I can on the phone. I can't wait until February 9th!! Thanks for all of the great posts! This will be my first Android phone, and I can't wait! I'm really looking forward to diving into the Android community!

Welcome to the club.

I sooo want this device. This iPhone 3gs is driving me nuts! Only problem I have is that we don't have T-mobile here and I can't find anything showing the difference between 3g and EDGE network speed especially someone using it on ATT.

There is a huge difference between 3G and EDGE in terms of speed. AT&T's 3G is very fast while EDGE is significantly slower. At first I was skeptical about getting a EDGE only device but that has quickly disappeared. I would do it all over again if I had to. The N1 holds it own on AT&T regardless of EDGE.

Oh i know that there is a huge difference between the two. We only got 3G here in Central Louisiana in December and I was using my iPhone then but 3 G is nice to have. Any rumors circulating about the possibility of a ATT compatible version coming out soon?

Looks like there may be a Nexus One with 3G bands coming sometime soon. May be a few months away though.

That's a bummer. I'm trying to hold out but the more I read about the Nexus One the harder it gets to wait.

It's pure speculation that the device will hit AT&T. I say if you can't hold off any longer, do it now. Either way you won't regret it. We only live once. Solid device.

I agree... In my area we just recently started gettin the 3g and I really seen t haven'the differance in the speed when I am sending MMS or browsing. I have a LG Vu, so this will be a big upgrade... my sister has the G1. I didn't want to get the iphone, but I was really about to get it until now. Can't wait for att to have some good androids.

I have had the N1 on ATT now for one week I'm extremely happy with with it, no regrets what so ever. This is one solid phone and a great OS. Never thought any phone could get me away from my bb and my iphone but this phone has done that. I will be keeping it for sure. The more I use it, the more I love it.

Thanx I oredered it this mornin... I deserve it, my Vu is actin shaddy and myhusband is about to deply again... need something to keep me busy.

Ok, I just want to throw something in here, from several posts back. I saw where someone posted about switching their data plan to the $15 dollar one, or $10 if you were on the family plan, and I guess that was before they got the N1 IMEI in their system, and that now it was back up to $30. It might still be worth it for all you AT&T people out there to call and double check that there's not a cheaper data plan. I'm currently using the iPhone 2G, and my data plan is $20, not $30. The CSR told me that the reason for that is because it doesn't use the 3G radio, or whatever it's called. The downside is that my phone is the primary number on mine and my husband's account, and we're supposed to be eligible for a discount, but because the plan is cheaper to begin with, neither of us get a discount on our plans. It's kind of ridiculous, I think, because if my husband's number was the primary number he would have a discount on his BB data plan, and my plan would be $20, but he doesn't get anything because my number is primary. And they "can't" switch him to primary just to get us a discount. She told me that as soon as I got an iPhone 3GS we would be eligible for a discount again, since the data plan would jump back up to $30 since I would be on 3G. So I wonder if the N1 would be only $20 since it's not on 3G, or if they force me to pay the full $30, if we would get the discount again?

Of course, this is all from a conversation from just one CSR. I swear a get a different answer with every different person I talk to.

But anyway - it might be worth calling and checking out. If it is eligible for the $20 plan since it's not on 3G, it would be good, especially if that number isn't the primary one, then you would have your discount on the other line (if you were eligible for one), and the N1 plan would be $20.

Sorry if this confused anyone. It freaking confuses me too. =P

Anyword on what Gardgetmomma posted?

I just sold my iphone 3g and am looking into the nexus one on AT&T since I am still under contract tell July. I dont care about the data plan because I have wifi just about everywhere I go and 3g sucks here. Edge works fine but I could live without it. Are they now forcing everyone into the dataplan now since they have the imei's or can we use the nexus one with data disabled and no data plan? Or can I use one of the cheaper plans since it is only edge? I could obtain a iphone 2g to activate on my account and sign up for the $20 a month plan if needed if I was able to keep that plan with my nexus.

They didnt force me into the data plan.

They won't force any plan on you with a unlocked device. They have no idea of what device you are using. I switch my sim back and forth with a iPhone 3GS and they always think I'm using the iPhone.

That's awesome! They told me to make sure I called and gave them a new IMEI number if I ever got another phone (not from them obviously) so they could update everything, but if they'll just be thinking I'm using my 2G iphone, I'll keep it that way, because I ran the numbers, and on my specific account, having the ten dollars off the data plan is cheaper than the discount would be if I were paying the full thirty dollars for the data plan plus a discount. Thanks for the info Jeremy!
